This week on 60 Minutes, correspondent Scott Pelley reports on the struggle of dealing with that truth.

” We want to make sure that we struck the right tone and that we’re delicate when we’re telling our audience and showing our audience the truth of what’s happening on the ground here,” stated Maria Gavrilovic, the 60 Minutes producer who led the group that reported this week’s story.

One of the front-line responders Pelley spoke with was Dr. Barbara Sampson, New York City’s Chief Medical Examiner.

” There’s truly no way to prepare for what we’re currently going through,” Lavin stated. “You can have all the stars you want, or all the dummies set out on a field. When you’re really doing it real world with grieving households, it’s a much different atmosphere.”

Gavrilovic and her team have previously reported on the coronavirus from New york city hospitals, where she found every doctor and nurse deeply impacted by the illness’s scourge. Today, she discovered the same emotional toll on those who manage coronavirus victims after they have actually passed away.

Lavin recalled the very first go to he made to a house to recover the body of a victim, a man who had died on his sofa. Prior to Lavin and his coworkers took the victim away, the guy’s partner leaned over to kiss him. “I feel like that will be with me forever,” Lavin said.

Gavrilovic stated she has actually been amazed there has actually not been more focus on the variety of people who have passed away from this disease. With this week’s report, she wanted to put the victims– and impact they have throughout society– in focus.

” We think that it’s truly essential, specifically due to the fact that of the large variety of individuals who are passing away, to talk about it,” she stated. “I understand the rush to wish to go back to normal. However what’s occurring now is not typical.”
