‘She’s a gangster’: Joe Rogan says Kayleigh McEnany ‘checkmated’ White House reporters in debut

A top podcaster is backing President Trump’s decision to hire Kayleigh McEnany as the new White House press secretary.

Speaking with former Ultimate Fighting Championship competitor Brendan Schaub on the Friday edition of his podcast, Rogan backed White House press secretary Kayleigh McEnany for how she handled questions from what the podcast host called “douchey” media.

“She’s a gangster,” Rogan said. “They’re trying to play gotcha, so she played gotcha with them. She checkmated them.”

Rogan rehashed an exchange on Wednesday between McEnany and a reporter who questioned her about comments she made in February claiming that Trump would not allow the coronavirus to come to the United States. Rogan, however, said the reporter acted unfairly and wasn’t attempting to get a serious response from McEnany.

“They tried to take what she said and take it out of context or frame it in a way while she was saying that Trump is not going to let the country get infected by the coronavirus,” Rogan said. “What she’s trying to say is that he’s not going to have free travel where people have coronavirus because it’s gonna bring the virus in. Not that it’s the only way the virus is going to get here.”

Rogan said he believes Trump spends too much time worrying about the media and that he should lead instead of picking fights with reporters.

“A lion should not be so concerned about the opinion of sheep,” he said. “It’s not becoming of someone who is in such a powerful position.”
