Poll: Plurality of voters choose Trump over Biden on the issue of fighting crime | TheHill

Thirty-eight percent of registered voters in the July 7-10 survey believe Trump would be better at fighting crime compared to 36 percent who said the same of Biden.

Fourteen percent of voters said the two presidential candidates would do about the same of a job when it comes to fighting crime.

Twelve percent of voters in the poll said they are not sure. 

The survey found disparities among race and ethnicity. 

A majority of Black voters, 61 percent, have more confidence in Biden when it comes to fighting crime as do a plurality, 35 percent, of Hispanic voters.

By contrast, almost of half of white voters, 47 percent, believe Trump to be better on the issue of crime.

The poll comes as spikes in crime have risen in several U.S. cities. 

Trump announced Wednesday he would be sending federal agents to Chicago in efforts to quell the surge of violent crime in the area.

According to a July 17-20 Hill-HarrisX poll, more than a third of registered voters said they are more worried about crime in their area since the start of both the coronavirus pandemic and the protests. 

The Hill-HarrisX poll was conducted online among 2,841 registered voters between July 7 and 10. It has a margin of error of plus or minus 1.9 percentage points.
