Home Speaker Nancy Pelosi said Friday that the November general election “need to” go as prepared after Joseph R. Biden made the unproven claim that President Trump will attempt to delay it.
” I understand there’s a risk and individuals are scared, but we need to and we will [have the election],” Mrs. Pelosi told MSNBC’s Andrea Mitchell.
The California Democrat was reacting to comments made Thursday by Mr. Biden, the presumptive Democratic presidential nominee, who declared Mr. Trump thinks the only method he can win the election is to stall it “in some way.”
” Mark my words, I think he is going to try to settle back the election somehow, create some rationale why it can’t be held,” the previous vice president stated throughout an online fundraiser. “That’s the only way he believes he can perhaps win.”
Mr. Trump does not have the authority to postpone the Nov. 3 election and has actually never specified a desire to do so.
” Those are the incoherent, conspiracy theory ramblings of a lost prospect who is out of touch with reality,” Tim Murtaugh, interactions director for the Trump campaign, stated in a statement Friday. “President Trump has been clear that the election will happen on November 3.”
Still, Mrs. Pelosi was asked to weigh in on Mr. Biden’s claim.
“[Mr. Trump] has done so much to undermine our democracy, to weaken our rights, dishonoring the Constitution, undermining the integrity of our voting procedure, denigrating our newcomers to our country, just degrading our environment, our worths, and the rest,” she stated.
” So he has actually done a lot to weaken who we are as America, but the truth is, we can not permit him to do that to our democracy,” she added. “That will not happen. And God prepared, perhaps some Republicans may even stand up for our country, our Constitution, and our democracy as well. I think they will.”
