As Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer’s stay-at-home orders are causing an extreme backlash from residents for being too strict, Constable Dar Leaf is signing up with a group of other sheriffs who are pushing back.

” We’re not stating that we’re not going to listen to Whitmer. We’re saying that we’re going to utilize common sense when enforcing it,” Barry County Constable Leaf informed “America’s Newsroom” on Friday.

Leaf joined other constables from Michigan who have promised to not strictly impose Whitmer’s social distancing limitations.

” While we understand her desire to safeguard the general public, we question some constraints that she has actually imposed as violating her executive authority,” Benzie County Constable Ted Schendel, Leelanau County Constable Mike Borkovich, l, Manistee County Constable Ken Falk and Mason County Sheriff Kim Cole said in a news release.

The sheriffs stated that, instead of strict enforcement, they “will handle every case as a specific scenario and use good sense.”

Leaf stated that individuals can not fish due to the stay-at-home order prohibiting using a motorboat. Leaf likewise stated that the sheriffs pressing back on Whitmer are not making a “political” move however requiring “sound judgment.”
