ATLANTA– Presumptive Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden is calling on Congress to offer adequate money for every single state to permit voters to cast a ballot by mail this November in the middle of the coronavirus pandemic.
In making that pitch throughout an online fundraiser Thursday night, Biden blasted President Donald Trump for working to block emergency situation financing for the cash-strapped U.S. Postal Service, which would deal with 10s of countless ballots this fall. Biden said it’s evidence that Trump already is trying to “undermine” the election and make it harder for Americans to vote.
” We need to make it simpler for everybody to be able to vote, especially if we are still basically in the kind of lockdown scenarios we are in now,” Biden told about 650 donors. “But that takes a lot of cash, and it’s going to require us to supply money for states and insist they offer mail-in ballots.”
It’s maybe Biden’s a lot of specific require a national mail election because COVID-19 overthrew the 2020 project and every aspect of American life. The previous vice president does not propose eliminating in-person ballot. But he said state and regional officials must do more to make polling places comply with public health procedures, while guiding voters towards other choices.
Biden scolded Trump for denigrating mail balloting and for opposing direct aid for the Postal Service.
” He’s already trying to weaken the election with false claims of citizen scams and threatening to obstruct necessary COVID help if any additional funds go to the U.S. Postal Service,” Biden said. “What in God’s name was that about aside from attempting to let the word out that he’s going to do all that he can to make it very hard for people to vote.”
Biden’s remarks recommended that the Postal Service had already gotten some taxpayer funds.
Going further, Biden predicted without evidence that Trump will try to delay the election completely.
” Between he and the Russians, there’s going to be an attempt to interfere,” Biden stated. “This president, mark my words, I believe he’s going to try to sit back the election somehow, come up with a reasoning why it can’t be held.”
It would be practically difficult for Trump to be successful with such a move.
