Fox News runs doctored images of Seattle protests

Fox News has removed from its website digitally doctored images of Seattle’s so-called “Autonomous Zone” after The Seattle Times reported on the misleading pictures.

Images on the conservative news outlet’s website mashed up different pictures without disclaimers explaining the edits, according to the local newspaper.

Fox News appended an editor’s note Saturday above a story about Seattle protests, acknowledging errors.

The note said that a photo collage “included multiple scenes from Seattle’s ‘Capitol Hill Autonomous Zone’ and of wreckage following recent riots. The collage did not clearly delineate between these images, and has since been replaced.”

The note also said a slideshow on the website of the scene in Seattle included an image from St. Paul, Minn. According to The Seattle Times, a picture from St. Paul showed a building on fire and a car in flames, leading a package about Seattle titled “CRAZY TOWN.”

But after the police cleared out of a precinct near downtown Seattle, the “Autonomous Zone” has proved a peaceful scene — with mural painters and drum circles — according to The Associated Press.

Officials and protest leaders have negotiated over terms regarding the relinquishing of the area back to cops.

A week ago, Fox News apologized after it ran a racist graphic showing stock market gains following the deaths of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., Michael Brown and George Floyd.
