New coronavirus cases have been reported among employees at several Brevard County Publix locations in the past week, according to a corporate spokesperson for the company.

Four additional stores in Satellite Beach, Suntree, Cocoa and Melbourne have reported having employees test positive for the novel coronavirus since June 22. This brings the total to nine separate locations with reported cases among employees.

The full list of Brevard County Publix locations with reported cases since the coronavirus pandemic began includes the following locations:

  • 2000 Cheney Highway, Titusville
  • 3275 Garden St., Titusville
  • 3820 Murrell Road,  Rockledge
  • 145 Palm Bay Road NE, Suite 117, West Melbourne
  • 3830 S. State Road A1A, Melbourne Beach
  • 7777 N. Wickham Road, Melbourne
  • 2301 State Road 524 Suite 150, Cocoa
  • 4100 N Wickham Road, Suite 109, Melbourne
  • 1024 S.R. A1A Suite 120, Satellite Beach

Publix officials did not confirm the timeframe of the positive tests or if the employees since recovered and tested negative for the virus that causes COVID-19.

Employees at Publix are required to wear face coverings and the store has taken other precautions, as well, including using plexiglass barriers at registers, implementing one-way aisles and more stringent cleaning measures.

Employees who test positive are given paid leave for 14 days and required to quarantine until they test negative for the coronavirus. Publix also requires quarantine and paid leave for up to 14 days for associates who have been in close contact with an associate who tests positive.

“Like other essential service providers, we have seen our own associates and their families personally impacted by COVID-19. Unfortunately, as public health officials have indicated, we expect to see an increase in cases as the virus spreads in our communities,” a spokesperson said by email.
