The City of Santa Maria says a Public Works employee is recovering at home after testing positive for COVID-19.

City officials say the employee may have been infected by a family member. He reportedly became symptomatic over the weekend, was tested on Monday, and received the positive test result on Tuesday.

He has been ordered to self-quarantine for 14 days.

City officials say two other city employees may have come into close contact with him. One is a Public Works employee who was subsequently tested and found to be negative for the virus.

The second employee works in the Recreation and Parks Department. City officials say that person was sent home to self-quarantine.

City officials say the ill employee does not have any underlying health conditions.

Santa Maria has had 135 confirmed cases of COVID-19 since reporting began, the most of any other community in Santa Barbara County.
