Coronavirus: 1,028 new positive cases reported in Orange County as of July 6

The Orange County Health Care Agency  reported there were 1,028 new cases of the coronavirus confirmed as of Monday, July 6.

The cumulative case total reached 17,882 since testing began in March. (You can see the increase in case totals by city since June 6 in the map below.)

There were no new deaths recorded on Monday, keeping the total number of Orange County residents who have died at 366.

Of the 366 deaths, 191 were listed as people in skilled nursing facilities and two were listed as homeless.

According to the California Department of Health, there have been 97 COVID-19 deaths in Orange County in the last 14 days.

The state agency reports 792 hospitalized patients in the last 14 days (suspected and positive) in 33 hospitals across the county as of Monday. The state’s coronavirus-tracking dashboard also shows Orange County has at least 42% of its ICU beds still available.

The county estimates the number of recoveries from the virus was 8,634 as of Monday. The count of people who have recovered is based on the prior 28-day cumulative case count.

Countywide, 270,659 tests have been reported since testing began, with data through July 4. The state’s coronavirus dashboard gave a 10.8% test positivity rate for the county.

The county’s breakdown of deaths by age is as follows:

  • 85 and older: 32% (119)
  • 75-84: 27% (98)
  • 65-74: 18% (63)
  • 55-64: 12% (43)
  • 45-54: 9% (32)
  • 35-44: 2% (8)
  • 25-34: 1% (3)
  • 24 and younger: 0%
