Brit Hume: Coronavirus lockdowns could turn out to be ‘public policy disaster’

Now is the time to think about the possibility that the coronavirus lockdowns bought by some states will develop into a public law disaster, Fox News senior political expert Brit Hume argued Monday night.

Appearing on “Fox News @ Night” with host Shannon Bream, Hume said that continual damage to the economy and the lives of over 20 million just recently unemployed Americans may not heal after implementing “exorbitant” measures.

” I think it’s time to consider the possibility, Shannon, that this lockdown– as opposed to the more moderate mitigation efforts– is a colossal public law disaster,” he mentioned. “That the damage to the economy, businesses that I see, businesses are closing. Numerous might not reopen. Those jobs will be lost. Those companies will be lost. Those earnings will be lost.”

” Plus, the result on children who don’t have their normal life. They don’t have school. They can’t have fun with their buddies, even outdoors. All these things are accumulating,” he continued. “They’re not going to get better, Shannon. They’re going to get worse with time. And, as I state, we may not recuperate from much of these losses for a long time if ever.”

Hume included that, to his understanding, there is not “truly effective evidence” apart from utter virus mitigation efforts that the shutdown is “making any distinction at all.”

” No one is speaking about returning to exactly where we were,” he described. “What they’re speaking about is moving forward, ending the lockdown, allowing individuals to continue to take the procedures of preventing crowds, washing your hands a lot, social distancing anywhere possible– you can do that in workplaces, you can stagger the way people concern work. Some people stay at home some days. Some individuals are available in. There’s an awful lot that could be done. Using masks when inside, particularly in shops and so on.”

” Those things are all reasonable preventative measures and it seems to me we have the experience of suggesting that they work,” Hume told Bream.
