A worker at the Tyson plant in Van Buren has died from COVID-19, a company spokesperson confirmed Friday.”We are saddened by the loss of any Tyson team member and sympathize with the family at this difficult time,” a company statement said.The statement also said the company’s protective steps meet or exceed CDC and OSHA guidelines. According to the Arkansas Department of Health, there were 30 active confirmed cases of coronavirus as the plant in Van Buren Friday. There were 851 active confirmed cases among poultry workers across the state. The death comes the same week China temporarily suspended imports of poultry products from the Tyson plant on Berry St. in Springdale due to a COVID-19 outbreak. The poultry workers’ rights group Venceremos is calling for poultry plants with coronavirus outbreaks to shut down.There were 64 active confirmed cases in Crawford County as of Friday, according to the ADH.
