Protesters form human chain to defend NYC Target from looters

They picked the wrong Target.

Viral video shows looters trying to smash their way into a Brooklyn Target late Saturday — just to be stopped by a human wall of protesters.

“F–k no!” one protester repeatedly screamed, standing in front of the Atlantic Terminal Mall with a lengthy pole held to stop anyone crashing into the store, as seen in video captured by a reporter for Forbes.

As other people there looked to the store shaking a can of spray paint, other George Floyd protesters carrying signs joined her — shouting off the looters as they formed a human chain to block the store’s entrance.

More than a dozen people — many shouting “no!” — eventually formed the barricade in the clip seen more than 5 million times.

The stand-off came as Target announced the temporary closure of 175 of its locations across the US during the ongoing protests, Forbes said.

Those shuttered include 12 in New York, the report said, as the company insisted that the “safety of our team and guests is our top priority.”

The chain had lived up to its name when the Minneapolis store close to where Floyd died Monday was destroyed by looters — with a wheelchair-bound woman the victim of a shocking attack outside caught on a separate viral video.

“We are heartbroken by the death of George Floyd and the pain it is causing communities across the country,” the company said Sunday, announcing that the Minneapolis store would remain boarded up.

The Brooklyn protesters were widely praised for stopping the looters, with many citing it as proof that those there for peaceful demonstrations were being tarnished by infiltrators.

One who helped form the chain said they did it because they feared the looters were undercover cops “trying to set us up.”

“I was right there, front-line, explaining to them that we are simply doing a peaceful protest,” the man, identified as David from Brooklyn and wearing a Stars and Stripes waistcoat, told Forbes reporter Andrew Solender.

He insisted they wanted attacks on cops to stop, too, saying, “That is not the narrative we are painting for our generation.”

“We want peace, we want unity — we want to feel safe again in our country,” he said.

“That’s why we’re here — to show America that we’re not afraid to fight back terrorism, racism and anything that oppresses us as brothers and women.

“Because we are all Americans, and that’s how we should stay … as one,” he said.
