Favorable reports of COVID-19 reported at Smithfield Foods in Bladen Co.

TAR HEEL, N.C. (WECT) – The Bladen County Health Department verified positive reports of the coronavirus at the Smithfield Food plant in Tar Heel Saturday early morning.

The press release from the department’s director, Dr. Teresa Duncan, stated local, state, and nationwide firms are working carefully to safeguard the health and wellness of employees and to reduce further spread of the infection.

” The health and wellness of the staff members is our first concern,” stated Duncan.

The release didn’t specify the number of cases have actually been validated at the plant. While the county is confirming there are positive cases, the business is not. Saturday afternoon, a public relations agent for Smithfield stated over email that they are not confirming any favorable cases of COVID-19 at their facilities out of regard for their staff members’ legal privacy.
