An off-duty Louisiana law enforcement officer shot a 14- year-old boy in the head after he awakened to a sound outside his house, authorities said.
The shooting occurred just after 3 a.m. on Friday at a house in Metairie, about seven miles northwest of New Orleans.
Jefferson Parish Constable Joe Lopinto determined the house owner as an officer with another police agency.
Lopinto stated the property owner was asleep when he heard sounds outside his house near his car. The guy saw several juveniles in his front backyard and “throughout that incident ended up shooting the 14- year-old,” Lopinto stated at a press conference.
The young boy is hospitalized in important condition. The other juveniles included got away, but cops have actually been able to identify them and have spoken with some of them, the sheriff said.
The off-duty officer was not in uniform at the time of the shooting. He “exited his home as a routine homeowner,” Lopinto stated, including that he has actually been cooperative with the examination.
” We’re treating him as a victim and a suspect,” Lopinto stated.
