Mnuchin ‘enthusiastic’ offer to replenish bank loan fund might come Sunday

Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin stated he is “confident” that Congress will strike an offer Sunday on replenishing the bank loan program that ran out of money last week.

” I’m enthusiastic that we can reach an arrangement that the Senate can pass this tomorrow and that your house can take it up on Tuesday and Wednesday we ‘d be back up and running,” Mnuchin said Sunday on CNN’s “State of the Union.”

Asked if that arrangement might come Sunday, Mnuchin said, “I’m confident. I believe we’re really near a deal today and I’m enthusiastic that we can get that done.”

Speaking on CNN minutes after the Mnuchin interview, Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer expressed optimism for a deal.

” I’m very confident we might come to a contract tonight or tomorrow early morning,” the New York Democrat stated.

Republican members of Congress have actually been promoting a $250 billion deal to reimburse the $350 billion Income Protection Program.

However Democrats want an extra $250 billion for local and state federal governments and hospitals that are on the frontlines of the coronavirus break out.
