Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti Addresses Economic Impact Of COVID-19: “We’re Just In The First Fight”

Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti took to Facebook Live on Sunday to give some sobering truths about the economic effect of the coronavirus on the city, but at the very same time, gave a message of hope.

Garcetti stated that L.A. is under attack when it comes to the coronavirus. “Our everyday life is indistinguishable,” he said.

During his address, Garcetti said that the financial impact facing the city will be more uncomfortable than the 2008 economic crisis. That stated, there will be cuts to government programs along with the furlough of thousands of city workers.

” The only way to save our economy is to save lives, and the only method we can save lives is by clearing a path to safely reopen our economy,” he stated. When L.A. will resume all depends on infection information.

” Today, we’re just in the first battle of this fight. Without a vaccine, we will probably see a 2nd wave of this novel coronavirus,” he stated. “But let me be clear, we can not remain inside your home for six or 7 months without running the risk of an even higher economic disaster.”

He then got in touch with the federal government to loosen guidelines and to permit federal funds used to repay L.A.’s response to the pandemic.
