As of Saturday, the number of coronavirus cases in Colorado has surpassed 16,000 with 832 confirmed deaths. On Monday, Colorado will enter a new “safer at home” stage where officers will be allowed to reopen, bringing employees back in under strict guidelines.

More Coloradans have died from COVID-19 in less than two months than died in any of the recent flu seasons – which last almost two-thirds of the year, Meg Wingerter reports. Also, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention estimates about 1.4% of people who get a typical seasonal flu need hospital care, but it appears 10% or more of those who get COVID-19 may need it.

Meanwhile, Aldo Svaldi reports that members of the Acacia Tenants Union in Denver are engaging in a rent strike and have posted banners saying “Don’t Pay May” and “Rent Relief Now” after failing to reach terms for rent relief with their landlord, Olive Bark LLC.

Throughout the day, we will share the latest coverage from Denver Post journalists on the coronavirus outbreak on this page.
