The head of the Centers for Disease Control and Avoidance is alerting that the worst of the coronavirus pandemic might be yet to come.

” There’s a possibility that the attack of the infection on our country next winter will in fact be much more challenging than the one we simply went through.”.

That’s what Robert Redfield, director of the CDC, informed the Washington Post in an interview released Tuesday.

Next winter season, “we’re going to have the flu epidemic and the coronavirus epidemic at the same time,” he told the Post, most likely putting massive pressure on America’s health-care system.

Redfield said the combination of coronavirus and seasonal influenza might overwhelm health centers and once again develop scarcities in medical devices and healthcare facility beds.

He worried the value of getting an influenza shot in the fall in order to keep the variety of hospitalizations down, and said the U.S. dodged a bullet by the COVID-19 pandemic striking after last winter’s flu season had peaked. Had they took place at the exact same time, “it might have been actually, really, truly, actually hard in terms of health capacity,” he told the Post.

Redfield stated states and the federal government need to utilize the coming months to scale up the country’s screening capability, which individuals need to keep social distancing even after the current constraints are raised.

More than 800,000 people have actually tested favorable for COVID-19 in the U.S., as of Tuesday, with more than 43,000 deaths.
