White House trade adviser Peter Navarro<\/a> said Sunday the coronavirus was a \u201cproduct of the Chinese Communist party\u201d and suggested without evidence that the potentially fatal virus may have been purposefully created by the Chinese government.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cDid you say China created this virus, did I hear you wrong,\u201d Tapper asked Navarro.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cYou did not hear me wrong,\u201d Navarro responded. \u201cThat virus was a product of the Chinese Communist party and until we get some information about what happened in those labs or what happened in that wet market we know that virus was spawned in China.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Asked if he thinks the virus was \u201cpurposefully created,\u201d Navarro said \u201cthat\u2019s an open question.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cWhat I said was the virus came out of China, the Chinese Communist party is responsible for it and as far as I\u2019m concerned,\u201d Navarro said.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

He also said that in his mind, the Chinese government is \u201cguilty until proven innocent.”\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Tapper asked Navarro if he has evidence to back up his accusation against the Chinese government.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Navarro responded that Tapper should be asking that question to the Chinese government.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cIf President Xi gave me an interview I would love to,\u201d Tapper said, also noting a CNN special about the coronavirus pandemic and claiming that he\u2019s been \u201cvery critical of the Chinese government.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThat doesn\u2019t prevent you from asking the question everyday,\u201d Navarro responded.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m not going to defend the Chinese government,\u201d Tapper said\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019d love to see evidence for the allegations you seem to be suggesting is possible that they created this on purpose,\u201d he added.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

China has\u00a0defended its handling<\/a> of the coronavirus pandemic, which originated in the city of Wuhan, and has said it \u201cwasted no time\u201d in sharing information about the virus. <\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
