A study has found that people whose weight reduced from indicating obesity to indicating overweight between early adulthood and midlife had a halved risk of dying during the follow-up period.

Research suggests that a reduction in BMI, from one of obesity to one of overweight, by midlife may improve longevity.

The World Health Organization (WHO) estimate that the global prevalence of obesity has almost tripled since 1975. In 2016, more 650 million adults had obesity.

In the United States, the prevalence of obesity among adults increased from 30.5% to 42.4% of the population between 1999 and 2018, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

Obesity is associated with an increased risk of heart disease, stroke, type 2 diabetes, and some types of cancer, making it a major cause of preventable premature death.

Estimates of the number of deaths that can be attributed to obesity vary widely, however, because of the complex interactions between body weight and factors such as age, smoking, diet, and physical exercise.

In addition, scientists are still unsure whether carrying excess weight in young adulthood causes harmful physiological changes that cannot be reversed by subsequent weight loss.

A team led by researchers at the Boston University School of Public Health, in Massachusetts, set out to discover whether losing weight after having obesity in early adulthood is associated with a reduction in mortality risk later in life.

The scientists recently published their findings in the journal JAMA Network Open.

Doctors often use a measure called body mass index (BMI) to determine whether a person has a healthy weight. To calculate this, the doctor divides the person’s weight in kilograms by their height in meters squared.

Experts define a healthy BMI as 18.5–24.9, one indicating overweight as 25.0–29.9, and one indicating obesity as 30 or higher.

The researchers behind the present analysis analyzed data from 24,205 people in the U.S. who were part of the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES).

As part of this survey, scientists recorded the weights of the participants when they were between the ages of 40 and 74. They also asked the participants how heavy they had been 10 years earlier, which the researchers described as midlife, and at the age of 25, which they defined as early adulthood.

The team behind the current study looked at BMI changes from early adulthood to midlife and their effects on mortality, measured during the NHANES follow-up period. Then, they took into account other factors that affect mortality risk, such as sex, past and current smoking, and education level.

Over a mean follow-up period of 10.7 years, there were 5,846 deaths among the participants.

The team found that going from a BMI indicating obesity in young adulthood to one indicating overweight by midlife was associated with a 54% reduction in mortality risk, compared with maintaining a BMI of obesity over the same period.

Also, people who shifted from having obesity to overweight between young adulthood and midlife had much the same mortality risk as people who had overweight only during this period.

The results taken together suggest that the harmful effects of obesity can be reversed.

The scientists estimate that 3.2% of all the early deaths in the study would have been prevented if people with BMIs indicating obesity had reduced this measure to fall within the overweight range by midlife.

In addition, they calculate that 12.4% of all the early deaths could have been avoided if everyone with a BMI indicating overweight or obesity had reduced it to fall within the healthy range by middle age.

“The results indicate an important opportunity to improve population health through primary and secondary prevention of obesity, particularly at younger ages,” says senior study author Prof. Andrew Stokes.

Another study author, Dr. JoAnn Manson, chief of preventive medicine at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, in Boston, refers to the link between obesity and a range of chronic illnesses:

“Although this study focused on preventing premature deaths, maintaining a healthy weight will also reduce the burden of many chronic diseases, such as hypertension, diabetes, heart disease, and even cancer,” she says.

Reflecting the public health challenge posed by overweight and obesity, however, the study found that weight loss was rare among the participants.

Only 1.3% of individuals with BMIs in the overweight range at 25 years of age had a healthy BMI 10 years before the NHANES interview, while 0.8% went from obesity to overweight by this measure, and 0.2% went from obesity to a healthy BMI.

And while losing weight in early adulthood was associated with a substantial reduction in mortality risk, the same was not true for those who lost weight later in life.

The authors believe that this is because weight loss later in life may result from worsening health, rather than adopting a more healthful lifestyle.

They write:

“The discrepancy likely reflects the different nature of weight loss at an earlier versus later life course. Weight loss at an older age is often unintentional, associated with underlying health conditions, and/or age-related loss of muscle mass, whereas weight loss earlier in life tends to capture changes in fat mass and is less likely to be affected by the onset of chronic diseases.”

Transitioning from a healthy or overweight BMI in young adulthood to a BMI in the obesity range in midlife was associated with increases in mortality risks of 32% and 47%, respectively, compared with staying in the healthy range.

However, the researchers report that going from a healthy BMI to an overweight BMI was not associated with a significant change in mortality risk, compared with maintaining a healthy weight.

This is in keeping with other studies, which suggest that being in the overweight range does not necessarily shorten lives, though this remains controversial.

Rounding off their report, the scientists explain that their study had several limitations.

To assess weight change between early adulthood and midlife, the scientists had relied on the participants’ recollections of their weights 10 and 25 years earlier. In addition, the team was unable to account for physical activity or diet in early adulthood.

Finally, the proportion of participants who lost weight was small, which the scientists say limits the precision of their estimates.

He’s no couch potato.

A Tennessee man changed his life and lost 220 pounds in an incredible weight loss journey that began with a two-week diet of unseasoned potatoes — and eventually led to a love for fitness.

Dylan Wall weighed 425 pounds when he graduated high school in 2017.

Dylan Wall weighed 425 pounds when he graduated high school in 2017, South West News Service (SWNS) reports. The Dixon County man decided to make a lifestyle change when he visited Austin Peay State University for New Student Day and realized he couldn’t keep up.

“During a tour of my college, I lost my group because I couldn’t keep up,” Wall explained. “I knew I wouldn’t be able to make it to my classes on time if I stayed on that course.”

“Around the same time, my sister also gave birth to my nephew,” he continued. “I didn’t want to set that example for him.”

“Around the same time, my sister also gave birth to my nephew,” he continued. “I didn’t want to set that example for him.”

Before slimming down, Wall ate mostly fast food, processed carbs and meat. For breakfast, he’d pick up McDonald’s, ordering more fast fare than a “normal portion,” he said. For lunch, Wall would get a “double portion” of whatever was being served. Dinner, meanwhile, was less consistent, Wall said, as he would snack “on and off” until he went to bed — which usually meant having “two or three sandwiches.”

“Other than when I left to go to school, I didn’t really leave the house all that much,” he recalled. “It was pretty much like that until the day I graduated high school.”

To begin the transformation, Wall yearned to break his “flavor addiction” for good.

To begin the transformation, Wall yearned to break his “flavor addiction.”

“I started by doing a taste bud cleanse. I ate only potatoes with no seasoning for two weeks,” he said. “It really helped with my cravings.”

After that, he cut out all dairy and red meat and doubled down on monitoring his daily diet.

“For the most part, I just counted my calories,” Wall said. “I wanted to break my flavor addiction and didn’t want to eat for pleasure.”

“It took just under a year to lose 180 pounds,” he remembered. “I didn’t step into the gym until I lost that first bit of weight.”

From there, Wall began eating egg whites with two slices of toast for breakfast, a turkey sub with no cheese for lunch, and a chicken breast with a variety of vegetables and rice for dinner.

“It took just under a year to lose 180 pounds,” he remembered. “I didn’t step into the gym until I lost that first bit of weight.”

When the time felt right, Wall began exercising with cardio, in an endeavor that felt like “the bane of my existence.” With practice, he picked up the pace. Eventually, he could consistently run a 7:30-minute mile, and also began to embrace upper body workouts, squats and deadlifts.

Wall said that he wanted to bulk up “right away” with muscle mass, after being left with extra skin after the dramatic weight loss.

“The last 50 pounds came off a little bit slower. It took another year to get down that last 50 pounds,” he said.

Looking ahead, the fitness fanatic now plans to have surgery to have his excess skin removed.

“I don’t think I knew how mentally taxing being left with the skin would be,” he revealed. “After coming this far and losing so much, I’m still left with that reminder every day.”

Now, Wall hopes that his own fitness journey will motivate others to strive for their best selves.

“I met my current girlfriend 50 pounds into my weight loss. … Since we got together she’s lost 75 pounds,” he said. “My dad also bet me $100 to see who could lose 60 pounds the fastest. I won, but he lost the 60 pounds too.”

Everyone asks, can I be keto and vegan and lose weight while still eating plant-based? After all, vegetables are mostly complex carbs, and on a keto diet, carbs are the enemy. The less of them you eat the better. We went to two trusted sources to get the scoop on how you can achieve this perfect balance: Spark your body into burning fat and still eat plant-based, and lose weight. The easiest way to start putting your body in fat-burning mode is to combine eating keto and vegan with Intermittent Fasting, which allows the body to burn fat sooner, and become what’s called “fat adaptive,” meaning burn fat stores for fuel.

There are three ways to jump-start ketosis on a plant-based approach

“I would call the keto diet a body hack for weight loss,” says Suzannah Gerber, who has been plant-based for most of her life, is a top chef and author of Plant-Based Gourmet. “It’s not centered around health. It’s centered on weight loss,” Gerber adds. She is something of a keto expert since she has developed keto recipes and plans, and she has successfully done keto plant-based diets numerous times herself. She tells people to only go keto for a  short time, no more than two months, for health reasons, since it can be less healthy for anyone with heart disease in their family, due to the high-fat content of the diet.

She explains that keto is possible on a plant-based plan, but it can take a little longer to achieve that fat-adaptive state (like a week or two) due to the high carb content of vegetables. One secret to jump-start the ketosis process (where ketones in your body indicate the body is using fat for fuel) is to add in Intermittent Fasting, where you eat little or nothing for a window of approximately16 hours, causing the body to burn fat, and then you eat keto for the remaining 8 hours. The other way to spark fat burning is to exercise intensely, such as interval training, to force the body to turn to dip into stored calories once the available blood sugar and stored glycogen in your muscles get used up.

The third way to burn fat faster is simply to lower your overall calorie intake and load your plate with as many fresh vegetables as you can, and look for the ones that are highest in fiber since digesting high-fiber foods lowers the overall carb load of your food, known as “net carbs” in the keto world. The higher the fiber, the less your body can use the carbs since it’s working hard to digest and fiber keeps insulin in check.  You end up burning calories and not storing them, so fiber is like the keto diet’s helper. More fiber means more fat burning.

How to go keto and lose weight on a healthy plant-based diet

When you choose a whole-food, plant-based diet and “go keto” you are prioritizing plant-based fats from nuts, plant-oils, and whole foods like avocados. It may take a few days of eating this way to get into ketosis, explains Gerber, since there is a “fat adaptive” period in all keto diets, where you train the body to burn fat for fuel, but you can speed this up by practicing intermittent fasting, which is not eating for up to 14 or 16 hours and then eating keto-friendly plant-based foods during the 8 to 10 on-hours, focusing on eating a plant-based diet and leaving off bread, alcohol and other carbs that will put you over the limit of 5 percent a day. Dr. Jason Fung, author of Life in the Fasting Lane, told The Beet that his patients often combine Intermittent Fasting and Keto diet choices for the best, fastest weight loss results.

The foods to eat for keto plant-based weight loss: Net carbs of 5 grams or lower

Practically speaking, Gerber explains, you have to add as many vegetables as possible to your plate to lose the weight. “There are some vegetables high in carbs and some not so high and its about understanding the fiber content,” She explains that broccoli rabe is high in fiber and low in carbs while broccoli is the other way around. So while it seems random there is a list of foods that are keto and plant-based. These are the ones you eat on repeat. Once you get the hang of it, she adds, it’s easy and you fill up on fiber and don’t feel hungry.

“I found it nearly impossible to get to the number of calories in a day that I needed,” Gerber explained “and that is not usually my problem!”

One of the obstacles is it does take typically if you go from a regular diet to a keto diet and a  vegan diet at that it will probably get you two weeks to get fat adapted, she added, so be patient, or add in exercise, or try combining keto and plant-based with intermittent fasting, she recommends.  And know this: “Avocado is your new best friend.”

Here is the hero list of plant-based keto foods that she recommends:

  • Nuts: Pecans and walnuts are quite low in carbs. Macadamia nuts might be the best. You learn where the different choices are and focus on those.
  • Greens: Spinach and broccoli rabe are low in net carbs. And so is green pepper.  Choose green instead of yellow or orange or red peppers for the net carbs.
  • Meatless meat and non-dairy cheese replacements. If you need to get a fair amount of oils this is a way to go. It’s much easier to get a fair amount of oils than just in vegetables
  • Cashew butter in a smoothie, or almond butter. Keep your protein and nut fats high
  • Avocado are your best friend. You’ll want to have avocado on everything, with every meal

For keto-friendly foods look for vegetables with the lowest net carbs such as:

“Tell yourself that you have a two-month plan on the keto approach, and then you go into a new two-month plan that is more protein-focused, and more balanced between the protein and the fat,” Gerber recommends. “Then use that time to exercise and eat to support building up muscle tissue, which is also going to play a positive metabolic roll and reduce cardiovascular risk.”

If you approach the keto plant-based diet as a finite “micro” diet phase, and you know it’s restrictive, Gerber explains, you can lose 10 percent of your body weight and most of it adipose tissue — meaning body fat– and stay plant-based. When you get to the end of six months or a year after doing this and you will likely not have put the weight back on and you’ll still have better muscle tone and a new baseline.

By the end of the six months of cycling through keto and plant-based, then maintaining your healthy approach, you will be eating a more diverse array of foods,  “with some sanity,” she adds. So when you go keto on a plant-based diet, only try it in short bursts. It’s still effective, but this way it’s also healthy.

Keto is strict, but it helps you break bad habits and lose weight fast, which is rewarding

“These kinds of heavily restrictive diets can serve a role to break your bad habits.” Gerber points out. “You’ve gotten into this habit and now you are going to break yourself of this habit.   Because you are adhering to a new way of eating and you can understand better what you are eating from a different point of view.”

The South Beach Diet, Atkins, Sears and other precursors to today’s keto diet plans, all allowed as much broccoli and salad greens as you wanted, she points out, since they filled you up. But on a keto diet, it’s much, much, much, stricter, and eliminates many more foods. “Beans are high carbs on a keto diet. Yes, they do have high fiber but you still end up too high for the day. If the goal is 125 net carbs a day, like on South Beach, then beans and broccoli are nothing. But if your goal is to eat 25 net carbs in a day, such as on keto, then that bowl of beans is the whole allowance.

Cycling off keto is important since you can do it in a way  that you keep the weight off

Once you become fat adaptive you can raise this strict level up to 50 net carbs a  day and stay within your weight goal, Gerber has found. “I had times I was doing 50 grams to 60 grams of net carbs a day once I was fully fat adaptive and I stayed at my new baseline. I teach people to spent that first week being strict because it makes up your mind you’re going to do it and with intermittent fasting, on a schedule of 16/8 [16 hours not eating and  8 eating], then you are priming your body for ketosis anyway. It helps if you exercise.

Gerber said plant-based keto is so much easier since you stay energized. “I never had ‘keto flu’ where you feel awful and tired all day. I never had the weird body odors and felt sick the way some people report having. I hacked the system. Lots of water helps. Keeping really hydrated helps a lot. Keep in yourself calorie-restricted and Intermittent Fasting really works.

For exactly how to achieve safe, healthy weight loss by going keto on a plant-based diet, we turned to Pam Nisevich Bede, MS, RD, a registered dietician with Abbott’s ZonePerfect Keto brand.

Here is her advice for anyone who wants to lose weight on a keto plant-based diet:

Q. What does it entail to be both keto and plant-based?

Nisevich Bede: A keto diet is a nutrition program that emphasizes foods high in healthy fats and low in carbs, with keto-dieters often turning to higher fat oils, butter and dairy. However, with easy swaps and substitutions, it is absolutely possible to follow both a keto and plant-based lifestyle. You can reach ketosis while following a plant-based diet by relying on high-fat, plant-based foods like coconut products, olive oil, avocados, seeds, and nuts. There are also vegan protein sources to turn to like full-fat tofu and tempeh.

Q. How do you think about your macros for the day when you’re plant-based?

Nisevich Bede: Whether you follow a plant-based, flexitarian, or meat-based approach, keto macros don’t really waiver. You’ll want to aim for macros of approximately 75 percent fat, 20 percent protein and 5 percent carbohydrates. Keep your net carbohydrate grams in mind, given that plant sources bring in more carbohydrates but also more fiber (and other vitamins and minerals).  Fibers are a keto-dieter’s friend as they help to maintain healthy digestion while also aiding in steady energy levels and don’t impact ketone levels in a negative manner.

Q. What exactly should your daily intake look like on a vegan keto diet?

Nisevich Bede: For example, if you’re aiming for a calorie goal of 1,800 calories a day, your macros should look be approximately 25 grams of carbs (think handfuls of deeply colored, fiber-rich veggies), 90 grams of protein (grab tofu, nuts, and keto shakes to hit this number) and 150 grams of fat (hello, avocados and nuts!) per day on the keto diet. If you need a handy macro calculator, check out this one.

Q. When you eat plant-based you cut dairy and meat, so where do you get your fats?

Nisevich Bede: The go-to keto fat sources, like avocados, olive oil, MCT oil, and nuts, are a great place to start. However, if you’re looking to change it up a bit, add full-fat coconut yogurt to your morning breakfast routine, or spread any type of natural (no sugar added) nut butter (peanut, almond, cashew, sunflower) on to celery if you’re in need of a quick snack. Another favorite is to mix in MCT oil and grass-fed butter/coconut oil into morning coffee.

Q. How do you keep your carbs down when most plants have carbs?

Nisevich Bede: While a lot of plants are high in carbs, remember that the fiber helps with digestion and blunts an impact to the ketosis you’ve been working hard to achieve. There are plenty of non-starch options that won’t take your carb count through the roof. Reach for options like leafy greens, Brussels sprouts, broccoli, zucchini, cauliflower, peppers or mushrooms. Also, if you’re craving something sweet, blueberries, blackberries, raspberries, and strawberries can be enjoyed in moderation. To keep your fat levels up, toss with avocado oil, spread vegan butter or sprinkle cashew cheese on your favorite non-starchy vegetables at dinnertime.

Adele, best known for popular hits like ‘Someone Like You’ and ’Turning Tables,’ recently revealed photos that showed off her weight loss transformation. The London-born singer shared photos on Instagram showing off her slim figure after being out of the public eye for a few years. Here’s how she lost the weight while following a super easy diet plan.

The Sirtfood diet is famous for allowing red wine and chocolate on the diet.

It encourages slimmers to eat plant based foods known as sirtfoods which can kickstart your metabolism, regulate your appetite, boost muscle tone and burn fat.

The diet is based on research on sirtuins, a group of seven proteins found in the body that has been shown to regulate a variety of functions, including metabolism.

In order to follow it correctly, you must stick to a calorie restriction which can help with weight loss.

Nutritionist Aidan Goggins, co-author of The Sirtfood Diet explains: “For the first three days, you restrict calorie intake to 1,000 calories a day, which includes drinking three sirtfood green juices plus eating a sirtfood-rich meal and snacking on antioxidant sirtfood bites.

“For the last four days, you up the calorie intake to 1,500 calories a day by consuming two sirtfood-rich meals and two green juices, cutting out the bites.”

Restricting your calorie intake to 1,000 calories a day will put your body into a calorie deficit, meaning you will most likely be burning more than you are consuming and even more if you exercise too.

The first phase lasts seven days and it can help you lose up to seven pounds in seven days by kickstarting your weight loss.

The second phase lasts for two weeks and the creators of the diet say this is when you should continue to steadily lose weight.

You may repeat these two phases as often as desired for further weight loss.

The top sirtfoods include:

Not only for weight loss but lowering the risk of heart disease, help fight inflammation, reducing the risk of stroke and even lowering blood pressure.

Sirtfood green juice:

150g celery, including leaves

Half medium green apple

Juice half lemon

Half tsp matcha tea powder

Juice all of the ingredients together, except for the matcha tea powder and lemon. Pour the mix into a glass and then squeeze the lemon by hand and add the tea powder.

The juice is important for the first phase of the diet as it can kick start the metabolism which contributes to weight loss.

Experts recommend only using matcha in the first two drinks of the day as it contains the same caffeine content as a normal cup of tea.

Countries where people already consume a vast number of sirtfoods including Japan and Italy, which are both regularly ranked among the world’s healthiest countries.

Other celebrities who have loved the Sirtfood diet include Pippa Middleton, chef Lorraine Pascale and Jodie Kidd.

Right now everyone wants a piece of healthy weight-loss success, and more and more people are trying the Vegan Diet, also known as the Plant-Based Diet. Unlike keto diets, which are both hard to sustain and not heart-healthy over the long term, the Vegan Diet is a whole-food plant-based way of eating that is healthy, sustainable and offers immunity-boosting foods to keep your energy up and your defenses strong against getting sick, as you shed pounds.

There are several diets flying around the internet that include the Adele Diet, which is also known as the Sirtfood Diet. (We tried it and here’s what happened.) Then there is Intermittent Fasting. (Which also works, as long as you eat healthy during the “on eating hours.”)

More people are trying to eat plant-based than ever, with 23 percent of consumers trying to incorporate plant-based or vegan foods into their day: Sales of plant-based meats are up 35 percent, while overall sales of all vegan foods are up 90 percent since the height of the COVID-19 crisis. It’s only growing as people want a diet that lets the lose weight and be healthy, and a healthy, plant-based “clean-eating” diet promises both. Health plus weight loss.

Healthy Weight Loss, Leaner Boy Composition With Plant-Based  Protein

The Vegan Diet and Plant-Based Diet is winning now because it’s healthier than other diets. And yes, it’s exactly what it sounds like. You stay away from inflammation-boosting animal products and fill your plate with plant-based whole foods that are low in oil, minimally cooked, and full of fiber. And guess what? It works.

But the reason that the Vegan Diet is catching on right now is two-fold: One is that people are staying away from meat during the time of COVID-19, and the other is that the Vegan Diet helps you lose weight and build your immunity. It’s also sustainable, healthy and natural. There is nothing more natural than eating a whole-food plant-based diet low in oils and fats.

The Vegan Diet is exactly what it sounds like: You eat tons of vegetables, fruits, legumes, grains, nuts, and seeds. There’s no point system or counting carbs, calories or net-carbs. You fill your plate with plant-based whole foods that are low in oil, minimally cooked, and full of fiber. If you can grow it, it’s a “Go!” If you have to look for ingredients on a label and there are many, it’s a “No-Go!” This simple way of losing weight is natural, intuitive, and sustainable. If you lose 2 pounds a week (which is a healthy rate) you can lose 12 pounds by 4th of July.

The Vegan Diet for Weight Loss is Popular During COVID-19

Why is the Vegan Diet having a moment? First of all meat processing plants are still rife with COVID-19 and just this week, Tyson was forced to shut down its biggest pork plant as one-fifth of the workforce, or 555 of the workers) tested positive for the virus. This means that supply chain interruptions promise to drive up the cost of meats and consumers are nervous that meat could spread the virus, although there is no evidence that this has happened yet.

Meanwhile, on the upside, the Vegan Diet is natural, allowing the dieter to fill up on vegetables and legumes, grains and nuts and seed, plus fruit — all foods that are full of fiber, satisfyingly filling and offer plenty of dietary protein. In fact for the foods that offer the most protein, see this list. For most dieters, getting enough protein on a vegan diet starts with a bowl of oatmeal and plant-based milk, which gets you about one-quarter of the way there in an easy, low calory meal. For the Beginner’s Guide to Going Plant-Based, which is a one-week Vegan Diet, click here.

Why the Vegan Diet Works: Fiber is a Dieter’s Secret Weapon to Shed Fat

To fill up on healthy foods, the higher the fiber content the better. Fiber has been given a bad rap as a “regulator” for anyone who has trouble going to the bathroom, but in  fact it’s the “anti-carb”  when it comes to eating healthy foods that spur weight loss. When diabetics are put on a  strict low-carb diet they are coached to look for fiber since the fiber-to-carb ratio is more important than carbs alone. This is why fruit, though higher in carbs than vegetables, does not make you fat.

The fiber in the food you eat allows the body to access healthy nutrients while keeping blood sugar low and your insulin response in check. The lower your blood sugar, the lower your insulin response, and the less your body gets the signal to store the extra energy as fat.

The high-fiber content of fruits and vegetables means that the “net carb” effect offers all the nutrients at less of the calories, carbs, and unhealthy fat that animal products or highly processed foods deliver. So the key to losing weight on the Vegan Diet is choosing foods that are as close to nature grows them as possible. Whole foods that are plant-based, including vegetables, fruits, legumes, nuts, seeds and grains, make up a healthy assortment of vitamins and minerals proteins and complex carbs to make the person eating this way feel satisfied and full, never hungry and deprived, and still lose weight.

When your fat intake is low — meaning no animal fat and minimal oils — your body will mobilize ready energy from what is stored in the body. You use up your glycogen first, and as anyone knows who has taken a 45-minute spin class or run, you switch over your energy system when you run out of available stored energy in the muscles and the liver, and then start to burn off fat stores and pull energy out of storage. The Vegan Diet low in oils is a natural way to prompt your body to find energy from within, essentially revving your engines to burn fat faster.

Stay Healthy as You Lose Weight With Immune-Boosting Vegetables and Fruits

The Vegan Diet is full of vegetables and fruits offer immunity-boosting properties All the foods known to help boost your natural immunity are “on the list” for the Vegan Diet. Broccoli, mushrooms, peppers and citrus are among the 13 foods that offer the most immunity per bite.

The Vegan Diet can help you lose weight that is sustainable, by minimizing eating processed foods that are likely to be high in added sugar and fat, low in fiber, and full of additives. So while potato chips are mostly vegan, they don’t make the cut because they are processed. The same goes for Twizzlers and other packaged foods that are only vegan because they don’t contain animal products. To lose weight you have to think “if I can grow it, I can eat it.” You have never seen a PopTart in a garden.

When you eat the Vegan Diet, you lose weight because you stay away from inflammation-boosting animal products and fill your plate with plant-based whole foods that are low in oil, plainly cooked, and full of fiber. And guess what? It works. You can lose up to 2 to 3 pounds a week and keep it off it you stick to a whole food plant-based –or vegan– diet.

For what foods are “on the list” and how much is recommended of each, check out the Vegan Food Pyramid. The basic idea on the Vegan Diet is to allow 55-60% of your calories from carbs, 20-25% from (plant-based) protein, and 15-25% from fat.
