]]>Fox Nation host Tomi Lahren sat down with Alek Skarlatos, a veteran hero who helped stop a terrorist attack on a Paris-bound train in 2015, about his run for Congress in Oregon‘s 4th congressional district.
Lahren previewed her interview with the 27-year-old Army National Guard veteran on her show “No Interruption.” The hero hopes to flip the seat Republican against 33-year incumbent liberal Democratic Rep. Peter DeFazio.
“He decided after taking down a terrorist he is ready to take down the swamp in Washington, D.C.,” Lahren told “Fox & Friends” Thursday of Skarlatos.
Her longtime friend is ready to “fight for the rural people of Oregon and show that not all young people are crazy and liberal and leftist and that they believe in the Second Amendment. They believe in freedom. They believe in small-town America and he is ready to win,” she added.

Skarlatos played himself in the 2018 Clint Eastwood film “The 15:17 to Paris,” which depicted the attempted attack on a train from Amsterdam to Paris. Skarlatos and two of his friends, Anthony Sadler and Spencer Stone, were traveling in Europe in August 2015 when they incapacitated an Islamist gunman.
Since then he came in third on the show, “Dancing with the Stars,” and now the hero wants to help flip his district red.
Skarlatos told Lahren his district is made up of timber, fishing, grass seed farming, rural and working-class, blue-collar people who’ve “had a tough time over the last 30 years.”

“Economically since the timber industry went away, things have really gone downhill and the incumbent Democrat not doing anything to help us,” Skarlatos explained, “it really just made me want to stand up and fight for the people that I live with.”
Co-host Ainsley Earhardt noted the 27-year-old “has done more than most of us in our lifetime.”
Skarlatos won the Republican primary in May with more than 86% of the vote.
“This is somebody who could’ve just taken his fame from a Clint Eastwood movie and just been happy with that, but no, he said the people in my district, they haven’t been fought for,” Lahren said. “We have a Democrat that just keeps getting reelected over and over and over again.”

She said his race is similar to so many across the country, saying people are “tired of watching Democrats run their cities into the ground and not pay attention to the little people.”
Lahren said that despite Portland’s “craziness,” Skarlatos’ district wants the timber industry and good-paying jobs back, not what the radical leftists are offering with the Green New Deal and “other things that are going to completely decimate their livelihood.”
“He’s ready to fight for them and he’s a young conservative ready to do it and I think he is going to win,” she said.

]]>North Korea has repeated that it has no immediate plans to resume nuclear negotiations with the United States unless Washington discards what it describes as “hostile” policies towards Pyongyang.
Saturday’s statement by North Korean First Vice-Foreign Minister Choe Son Hui came after US President Donald Trump’s former national security adviser, John Bolton, told reporters on Thursday that Trump might seek another summit with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un as an “October surprise” before the US presidential election.
“Is it possible to hold dialogue or have any dealings with the US which persists in the hostile policy towards the DPRK in disregard of the agreements already made at the past summit?” Choe said, referring to North Korea by its formal name, the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea.
“We do not feel any need to sit face-to-face with the US, as it does not consider the DPRK-US dialogue as nothing more than a tool for grappling its political crisis,” she said.
Kim and Trump have met three times since embarking on their high-stakes nuclear diplomacy in 2018, but negotiations have faltered since their second summit in February last year in Vietnam.
In that summit, the US rejected North Korean demands for significant sanctions relief in exchange for a partial surrender of its nuclear capability.
Kim entered 2020 declaring to bolster his nuclear deterrent in face of “gangster-like” US sanctions and pressure.
Choe’s statement followed a series of similar declarations by the North that it would no longer gift Trump with high-profile meetings he could boast of as his foreign policy achievements unless it gets something substantial in return.
‘Strategic timetable’
Choe said North Korea has already established a “detailed strategic timetable” for managing what she described as US threats.
“The US is mistaken if it thinks things like negotiations would still work on us,” she said.
The North in recent months has also been ramping up pressure against South Korea, blowing up an inter-Korean liaison office in its territory and threatening to abandon a bilateral military agreement aimed at reducing tensions.
It follows months of frustration over Seoul’s unwillingness to defy US-led sanctions and restart joint economic projects that would breathe life into the North’s broken economy.
North Korea’s state media on Friday said Kim, while supervising a politburo meeting of the ruling Workers’ Party on Thursday, discussed “important issues related to the external affairs” but did not specify what they were.
During a video conference with European leaders on Tuesday, South Korean President Moon Jae-in, who had lobbied hard to help set up the now-stalled negotiations between Washington and Pyongyang, also expressed hope that Trump and Kim would meet again before the US election.
US Deputy Secretary of State Stephen Biegun is due to visit South Korea next week to discuss stalled talks with North Korea.

JERUSALEM (Reuters) – Israel is in advanced talks with Moderna Inc to buy its coronavirus vaccine that is entering the final stage of testing, leading Israeli news website YNET reported on Sunday.
YNET, quoting unnamed officials at Israel’s Health Ministry, did not report further details. A ministry spokesman declined to comment on the report.
Moderna confirmed on Thursday it planned to start a trial of 30,000 volunteers for its vaccine in July.

A report that the U.S. could see strong economic growth as states emerge from months of coronavirus shutdowns had U.S. Rep. Jim Jordan, R-Ohio, sounding optimistic Tuesday during an appearance on “Fox News @ Night.”
Host Shannon Bream pointed to the Politico report – in which former Obama administration adviser Jason Furman predicted a sudden rebound in the fall could spell trouble for Democrats’ election hopes.
She also noted a recent poll showing voters still trust President Trump over Joe Biden on the economy despite the virus-related slowdown.

“He built the greatest economy in 50 years,” Jordan said, referring to the president. “I think, as the president says, as the economists are saying — I think it’s an Obama economist – they’re saying we’re going to have this good ‘V-shaped recovery,’ which I call the Great American Comeback. I think it’s going to happen, it’s going to be strong, it’s going to be robust. It’s going to be hopefully like where we were just a few months ago before this shutdown.”
The key to the comeback will be the states choosing to reopen rather than to wait for a federal bailout, Jordan added.
“Back-to-work actually works,” he said. “That’s the best stimulus there is. And I think you’re going to see what this economist talked about.”
Jordan also blasted the Democrats, accusing them of playing politics rather than working toward bipartisan support of a U.S. economic rebound.
“The Democrats right away go to politics. Why can’t we all just be for what’s good for the country? It’s good for America, if we have a strong recovery, if we have that V, if we have this great American comeback,” he said. “That’s good for the country. But the Democrats always think politically ’cause their animosity and animus to the president is just so strong — and that’s unfortunate.”

Bream next asked Jordan about the recent departures of inspector generals from the federal government – either by resignation or firings by President Trump. She referred to U.S. Rep. Jackie Speier, D-Calif., who accused Trump of replacing “Mr. Cleans” with “Mr. Cronies,” with other Democrats saying Trump was looking to avoid accountability.
“Look, the president’s entitled to have the people he wants around him to do the things he told the American people he was going to get accomplished,” Jordan responded. “I think that’s fine.”
Jordan then said former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton had no inspector general oversight during her tenure at the State Department.
“No inspector general the whole time,” he said. “Maybe if we’d had an inspector general there, we could have gotten a little more information on what really happened, we had to do a whole select committee on the Benghazi tragedy, where Americans lost their lives on that night.”
Once again Jordan pointed at the Democrats.
“This president has been faced with more attacks from more places than any president ever,” he said, “and he’s entitled to have the people in office, supporting his administration so he can get done what he told the American people he was going to do.”
Jordan, 56, who serves as ranking member of both the House judiciary and oversight committees, then addressed the Michael Flynn case, in which the Justice Department sought to drop charges of lying to investigators against the former White House national security adviser. Jordan said he hoped to soon see transcripts of Flynn’s phone calls with former Russian diplomat Sergey Kislyak, which reportedly sparked the Russia investigation into the Trump campaign.
“I really want to see that call,” Jordan said, “and just as importantly I want to see the 302, the notes taken when the two agents – Comey snuck ’em into the White House to set up General Flynn and trap General Flynn.”
Jordan added he was hoping that John Ratcliffe, the newly installed director of national intelligence, would make the information available.”

Jordan also credited Ratcliffe’s predecessor, Rick Grenell, with doing an “outstanding job” of uncovering information regarding the Flynn case.
“We know Rick Grenell, in three months — I said this last week, I think — compare three months of Rick Grenell to three years of [FBI Director] Chris Wray,” Jordan said. “Rick Grenell’s done an outstanding job. John Ratcliffe’s going to continue that outstanding work.
”But I look forward to seeing this document because what we’ve learned because of Rick Grenell’s efforts, [Flynn lawyer] Sidney Powell’s efforts, Attorney General Barr’s efforts … Jim Comey was the common denominator through it all. I hope John Durham [investigating the origins of the Russia probe] is still giving Mr. Comey a strong look.”

Idaho’s Hardware Brewing Company owners said Monday night that they had violated state coronavirus shutdown orders earlier this month in order to keep their business from going under.
Appearing on “The Ingraham Angle,” Morgan, Doug and Christine Lohman explained that they had originally complied with the shutdown mandate, but takeout orders alone could not keep them afloat.
“We restored a beautiful old building. It’s 116 years old. We put our life savings into it and we made a destination place where people come in groups, they come for wedding parties, they come to stay and enjoy the ambiance of this beautiful building, play some shuffleboard, have some good brews [and] some great pub grub,” Christine told host Laura Ingraham.
“You do not drive 35 miles or more for me to come out in a hazmat suit and hand [you] a burger. So, we were starving slowly.”

Lohman recalled that when Republican Gov. Brad Little gave them a second potential date to reopen, they thought they would be saved. However, neither they nor their neighbors fell under the jurisdiction of essential businesses on Little’s list.
“We were all told we’re not essential and we have to stay closed. So, we defied his order because we know of no law, no legislation that’s been passed…that says that we can’t operate. That we can’t enjoy commerce which is our…constitutional right,” she stated.
Under Idaho’s reopening plan, bars and nightclubs aren’t allowed to reopen until mid-June at the earliest, and restaurant dining rooms have to wait until between mid-May to mid-June. The Lohman family then decided to reopen with their regular hours.
Upon reopening, the Kendrick brewery hosted Lt. Governor Janice McGeachin, GOP Chairman Raul Labrador, Rep. Mike Kingsley, Sen. Dan Johnson, and local sheriffs who came to show their support for the defiant act.
McGeachin had reportedly also attended a “Liberate Idaho” rally earlier in the day.
However, it was because of that show of support that the brewery saw especially swift backlash from Little — along with the threat to remove their liquor license. Host Laura Ingraham called it “shocking” to see the reaction in the Republican-led state.
“If you continue to stay open in violation of the Stay Healthy Order, your actions will constitute an ongoing violation of the foregoing Title 23 and public health laws and can result in an administrative violation against and potential revocation of Hardware Brewing Company retail alcohol beverage license,” Idaho State Police Capt. Brad Doty wrote in a letter to the Lohmans.

“I truly believe that the reason we’re being targeted is because the lieutenant governor showed up,” Morgan remarked.
“Had Janice not showed up to show her support, we wouldn’t have Gov. Little after us.”

Governor Cuomo on Wednesday night revealed his strategy for convincing “cynical” New Yorkers to stay home during the coronavirus pandemic — laying out all the facts, however grim, at his daily press briefings.
The governor explained on “The Daily Show” that his open-book style that has made his daily briefings must-see TV is crucial to getting New Yorkers to buy into the state’s strict mitigation efforts.
“If New Yorkers had said, ‘No, I’m not doing it,’ — and New Yorkers are a defiant bunch — I would have been powerless,” Cuomo told host Trevor Noah. “I can’t enforce a stay-at-home order for 19 million people.
“And they are smart and they are cynical. If they don’t believe you or you haven’t made your argument, or you haven’t laid out the facts, they’re not going to do it.”
Because of this temperament, Cuomo has been transparent — sharing things like jarring coronavirus death toll projections — to help execute his public policy.
“The ability to have a plan was purely dependent on New Yorkers buying in,” Cuomo said.
“I am not there to filter, I am not there to manipulate. Here’s the situation, here are the facts, I’m going to tell you everything I know,” he said, adding there’s “no sugarcoating it.”
The governor on March 20 ordered sweeping measures that shut down all non-essential business across the state and banned non-solitary outdoor activities.
The mitigation efforts — dubbed “New York State on Pause” — went into effect on March 22 and are still ongoing.
New York has seen over 257,000 coronavirus cases, as of Wednesday, with 15,302 deaths from the disease.

Congressional Democrats and the Trump administration will talk through the weekend to try to strike a deal on an emergency bill to replenish a program to buoy small businesses pummeled by the coronavirus, Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer said Friday.
The New York Democrat sounded optimistic about reaching an agreement a day after the Small Business Administration said the $349 billion loan program approved last month had reached its cap of commitments. Senate Republicans tried to pass a plan last week to inject $250 billion more into it, but Democrats blocked it as they pushed for tweaks to the program along with funding for hospitals and state and local governments.
It is unclear how many small businesses have received money from the program.
Staff from Schumer and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s offices have held discussions with Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin this week on an interim rescue bill — which Senate Republicans may or may not choose to support.
“We’ve had constructive talks. They’re going to continue through the weekend, and I don’t see any reason why we can’t come to an agreement soon,” Schumer told the MSNBC program “Morning Joe.”
Schumer has faced criticism for delaying more funding for the program, which is designed to keep workers on small business payrolls. On Friday, he said, “it’s vital we help small business, but if we don’t deal with the testing and health-care problems, if we don’t deal with local government problems, small business may have enough money to get back, although we’ve got to fix that program, but people won’t go out on the streets.”
The senator noted that President Donald Trump sounded more hopeful about talks on Thursday night. At a White House coronavirus briefing, the president said he expected “something’s going to be happening.”
Democrats pushed for at least another $250 billion for hospitals, states and municipalities fighting the pandemic, along with food assistance programs. They also wanted to put only $125 billion directly into the existing small business loan program, and direct another $125 billion to community-based lenders and SBA disaster assistance loans and grants.
The party’s leaders have said the structure of the relief in the $2 trillion package passed last month left out businesses who do not already have a banking relationship.
Republicans have argued their counterparts hung small businesses and their employees out to dry by not approving the money last week.
“This did not have to happen. Republicans have been sounding the alarm for more than a week,” Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell and House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy said in a joint statement Wednesday as the loan program neared its commitment limit.
Neither chamber of Congress plans to return to Washington until early May. Lawmakers can pass bills with only a few members present, but they need a broad consensus on the legislation to do so.
The coronavirus outbreak continues to rip through the U.S. as Congress struggles to reach agreement on how to respond to the evolving crisis. Covid-19 has now infected at least 671,000 people nationwide and led to more than 33,000 deaths, according to data from Johns Hopkins University.
At the same time, shutdowns implemented to limit the pandemic’s spread have led to a staggering 22 million claims for unemployment insurance over the latest four weeks.
Democrats hope to pass a separate plan to expand key provisions of the $2 trillion rescue plan, including direct payments to Americans and strengthened unemployment insurance.
