]]>President Trump warned New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio Sunday night that the federal government would act if his office fails to get a grip on the ongoing increase of violent crime in the city.
“Law and Order,” Trump tweeted. “If @NYCMayor can’t do it, we will!”

At least five people died in shootings across the city in at least 30 shootings, Fox 5 NY reported.
Eric Adams, the Brooklyn Borough president and former NYPD captain, told the station that he is not seeing the “level of urgency that should come from the city when you have a high level of violence.”
The Fox 5 NY report said that there were shooting in every borough and 43 shooting victims, 10 times the number over the same weekend in 2019.
He continued, “I would hate to believe that we’ve become immune to violence based on the geographical location and ethnicity of the victims.”
The report indicated that since the beginning of the year, there have been 1,087 victims of shootings in the city, compared to 577 at the same time the previous year. The report said that there have been 263 deaths in the city compared to 196 in 2019.
The shootings prompted the New York Post to run an editorial titled, “We Need Someone to Run for Mayor Who Will Save New York.”
“By the beginning of the de Blasio era, the murder rate had fallen by nearly 90 percent. Today, Gotham is plummeting at warp speed — yet it’s eminently saveable,” the editorial board wrote.
De Blasio’s office did not respond to Fox News for comment.
Fox Business reported Sunday that thousands of New Yorkers are leaving the city due to the challenges from dealing with record apartment vacancies, coronavirus shutdowns and the violence. The Hartford Courant reported that 16,000 New Yorkers switched their residences to Connecticut during the first three months of the pandemic.
This is not the first time that Trump called out a Democrat mayor over an increase in violence and unrest over protests stemming from George Floyd’s death in police custody. He is usually met with resistance from these mayors who insist that federal troops only increase tensions in these cities. Trump, in an election year, is trying to position himself as the country’s law-and-order choice.
The Police Benevolent Association of the City of New York, which announced its endorsement of Trump last week, tweeted out about the recent bloody week in the city that resulted in 12 deaths and 69 victims.
“The reasons aren’t complicated,” the PBA tweeted. “Our city politicians have demonized us at every turn and in the process stripped us of necessary tools to get guns off the streets. When cops are left handling crime with a “light touch,” violent gangs step into the void and reign terror on NYers.”

]]>A voter registration group is sending hundreds of thousands of mail-in and absentee ballots to voters in states that do not automatically mail the ballot applications themselves.
The Center for Voter Information, a 501(c)4 nonprofit advocacy organization, is responsible for the mail-in ballot applications, in an apparent attempt to promote the voting method President Trump has repeatedly condemned.
The mailings contain legitimate ballot applications, but at first glance appear to be from a government source, which is “potentially misleading” for recipients, according to election officials.
The Center for Voter Information, which is affiliated with nonprofit called the Voter Participation Center, has sent over 800,000 mail-in ballot applications, aiming to “empower” eligible voters with a focus on unmarried women, people of color and young voters, according to the Washington Examiner.
TRUMP ENCOURAGES FLORIDA TO VOTE BY MAIL, CALLS SYSTEM ‘SAFE AND SECURE’
But the organizations have repeatedly sent voters incorrect information. This week, hundreds of thousands of voters in Virginia had incorrect election office addresses on their prepaid return envelopes. Earlier this summer, the Center for Voter Information sent thousands of North Carolina voters forms that were invalid because the group had partially filled them out, a practice made illegal by a new state law.
The partially filled-out ballots came with a letter promoting the voting method — the best way to protect yourself, your family, and your whole community during this time is to vote by mail.”
“Approximately half a million applications sent to eligible voters in Virginia included incorrect information, and we are working diligently to address the issues,” a spokesperson for Center for Voter Information told the Washington Examiner. “We know that voters are on high alert as the November election approaches, and we regret adding to any confusion.” It plans to work with local officials to direct the applications to their proper locations and “rectify any errors at our own expense.”
Virginia’s Fairfax County elections Twitter account sent out a warning about the “inaccurate, potentially misleading mailing,” and said the most efficient way to vote by mail is through its website.
Meagan Wolfe, the administrator of the Wisconsin Elections Commission, told NPR earlier this year she received a letter from the group telling her she wasn’t registered to vote, which wasn’t true. In previous years, the group has sent voter registration applications to deceased people and pets, according to the Washington Post.
REPUBLICANS WARN MAIL-IN VOTING RHETORIC COULD BACKFIRE AS TRUMP MODIFIES STANCE
Prior to the pandemic, Oregon, Hawaii, Colorado, Utah, and Washington all allowed mail-in voting for all elections. But several states have tried to change policies this year — swing states such as Michigan and Wisconsin will now automatically send mail-in voting applications to all voters. Nevada plans to send mail-in ballots themselves to every registered voter.
Trump has been on a monthslong crusade against the expansion of voting by mail, claiming — without citing evidence — that it will lead to a “rigged election” and “massive voter fraud.”
However, Trump did an about-face on mail-in voting in Florida, Tuesday tweeting encouragement for Florida voters to vote by mail.

“Whether you call it Vote by Mail or Absentee Voting, in Florida the election system is Safe and Secure, Tried and True,” Trump said. “Florida’s Voting system has been cleaned up (we defeated Democrats attempts at change), so in Florida I encourage all to request a Ballot & Vote by Mail!”

]]>Two American aircraft carriers were conducting exercises in the disputed South China Sea on Saturday, the U.S. navy said, as China also carried out military drills.
Both countries have accused each other of stoking tensions in the strategic waterway, at a time of strained relations between the two nations over a number of issues including, coronavirus and Hong Kong.
The USS Nimitz and USS Ronald Reagan were carrying out operations and exercises in the South China Sea “to support a free and open Indo-Pacific,” the navy said in a statement.
It did not say exactly where the exercises were being conducted in the South China Sea, which extends for some 900 miles and 90 percent of which is claimed by China, despite the protests of its neighbors.

“The purpose is to show an unambiguous signal to our partners and allies that we are committed to regional security and stability,” Rear Admiral George M. Wikoff was quoted as saying by the Wall Street Journal, which first reported the exercises.
Wikoff, commander of the strike group led by the Ronald Reagan, said the exercises were not a response to those being conducted by China, which the Pentagon criticized this week as “counter-productive to efforts at easing tensions and maintaining stability”.
China dismissed the U.S. criticism of its drills on Friday and suggested the United States was to blame for increasing tensions.
U.S. carriers have long carried out exercises in the Western Pacific, including in the South China Sea, according to the U.S. navy. At one point recently, the United States had three carriers in the region.
China announced last week it had scheduled five days of drills starting July 1 near the Paracel Islands, which are claimed by both Vietnam and China.
Vietnam and the Philippines have also criticized the planned Chinese drills, warning they could create tension in the region and impact Beijing’s relationship with its neighbors.
The United States accuses China of trying to intimidate Asian neighbors who might want to exploit its extensive oil and gas reserves.
Brunei, Malaysia, the Philippines, Taiwan and Vietnam also lay claim to parts of the South China Sea, through which about $3 trillion of trade passes each year.
The U.S. statement said the naval exercises gave commanders the flexibility and capabilities “that only the U.S. Navy can command.”

A federal judge in New Hampshire on Thursday ordered Ghislaine Maxwell sent to New York City to face charges that she conspired with her longtime friend, the late investor Jeffrey Epstein, to sexually abuse underage girls in the mid-1990s.
Maxwell was ordered into the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service to be transported to federal district court in Manhattan for a hearing on whether she should be granted bail pending the outcome of her case, in which she also is charged with perjury.
The order by Magistrate Judge Andrea Johnstone came during a so-called removal hearing, conducted remotely due to the coronavirus outbreak, in New Hampshire, where prosecutors had asked that Maxwell be detained without bail after her arrest Thursday morning in Bradford, New Hampshire.
Prosecutors had cited her risk of flight, her possession of multiple passports and her significant wealth in making that argument.
No court hearing has been set yet for Maxwell in Manhattan.
Maxwell, 58, was arrested at a 156-acre property in Bradford on a six-count indictment that was issued by a grand jury in Manhattan federal court.
The property had been purchased in December for $1 million by a limited liability corporation set up to conceal the actual buyer’s identity, according to prosecutors.
“The defendant is waiving the right to have a detention hearing in this district,” said Maxwell’s lawyer, Lawrence Vogelman.
Maxwell confirmed that she was waiving her right to a detention hearing and an identity hearing, agreeing with her lawyer that she wanted the detention hearing held in Manhattan federal court.
She answered “I do” and “I am” to a series of routine questions by Johnstone during the hearing, which lasted less than 20 minutes.
Vogelman declined to comment on the charges against Maxwell when contacted by CNBC after the hearing.
Epstein, 66, killed himself last August while being held without bail in a federal jail in lower Manhattan. His suicide came more than a month after he was arrested on charges of child sex trafficking.
In that case, the former friend of Presidents Donald Trump and Bill Clinton was accused of sexually abusing dozens of underage girls from 2002 through 2005.
Prosecutors said at the time that Epstein was aided by unidentified conspirators with recruiting young girls to satisfy his sexual obsessions.

]]>TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) – An unusual phenomenon will start impacting parts of Kansas this weekend and has raised some health concerns.
Dust from the Sahara Desert in Africa has lifted into the atmosphere and is blanketing the eastern U.S., and could impact Kansas.
“Dust is picked up by trade winds and carried thousands of miles across the Atlantic and eventually to the U.S. The particulate matter from this event has the potential to impact Kansas,” said KDHE in a news release.
They say the dust could cause some health problems. Those could include burning eyes, runny nose, coughing and illnesses such as bronchitis.
Those with respiratory issues, pre-existing heart or lung diseases, children and elderly could experience worse symptoms.
KDHE says you should take these steps:
· Healthy people should limit or avoid strenuous outdoor exercise.
· People with respiratory or heart related illness should remain indoors.
· Help keep indoor air clean by closing doors and windows and running the air conditioners with air filters.
· Keep hydrated by drinking lots of water.
· Contact your doctor if you have symptoms such as chest pain, chest tightness, shortness of breath or severe fatigue.

GREENVILLE COUNTY, S.C. —
Over the last two days, Greenville County had more COVID-19 cases reported.
But while the state had just learned this new information, the data itself is old.
According to South Carolina’s Department of Health and Environmental Control (DHEC), a private laboratory submitted a month’s worth of positive COVID-19 test results for Greenville County over the weekend.
DHEC wrote in a news release that this caused a spike of new reported COVID-19 cases in Greenville County.
WYFF4 reached out to DHEC to ask why this happened.

He told her the county has been tracking the average number of cases for almost two months.
