]]>President Bill Clinton used his Democratic National Convention speech Tuesday to lecture President Trump on decorum, drawing charges of hypocrisy even before a photo of the former Democratic president with an Epstein accuser went viral.
“At a time like this, the Oval Office should be a command center,” Mr. Clinton said in his remote speech. “Instead, it is a storm center. There’s only chaos. Just one thing never changes — his determination to deny responsibility and shift the blame. The buck never stops there.”
Leading off the mockery was “Late Night” host Stephen Colbert, who alluded to Mr. Clinton’s Oval Office affair with then-White House intern Monica Lewinsky.
“All right, that’s true, that’s a good point,” Mr. Colbert replied. “But I don’t think Bill Clinton gets to lecture anyone on what should happen in the Oval Office. Those in glass houses should not be allowed near the interns.”
The same day, the [U.K.] Daily Mail ran a photo showing Mr. Clinton receiving a neck message from Chauntae Davies, then 22, who has accused the late Jeffrey Epstein of raping her. Mr. Clinton has come under fire for his friendship and travel with Epstein, a convicted sex offender.
The caption read: “Clinton, then 56, had complained of having a stiff neck after falling asleep on Epstein’s notorious private jet while on a humanitarian trip with the pedophile to Africa in September of 2002. After Maxwell’s insistence, Clinton asked the twenty-something: ‘Would you mind giving it a crack?’”

Trump attorney Rudy W. Giuliani called the second night of the convention “a parade of hypocrites,” tweeting, “Bill Clinton wants to cleanse the Oval Office?”
Added Juanita Broaddrick, who accused Mr. Clinton of raping her in 1978, which he has denied: “Where is MeToo?”
Mr. Colbert also posted a photo of Mr. Clinton looking surprised, joking that he was “seen here finding out Ghislaine Maxwell was just arrested.” Ms. Maxwell, an Epstein ally, was arrested last month on charges related to sexual abuse of young women.

]]>President Trump warned in 2017 that statues of U.S. Founding Fathers such as George Washington and Thomas Jefferson might someday be removed — three years ahead of attacks on such statues this month.
Back then, “Last Week Tonight” host John Oliver mocked the president for his grim prediction.
“So this week it’s Robert E. Lee. I noticed that Stonewall Jackson is coming down,” Trump said at an August 2017 news conference on the protests that year in Charlottsville, Va., that sparked from the plans to remove some Confederate statues.

Black Lives Matter protesters earlier this month started pulling down Confederate statues. The trend soon led to attacks against statues of other historical figures, such as Christopher Columbus and former President Ulysses S. Grant.
Then last Sunday a Jefferson statue was knocked down in Portland, Ore., followed by a similar attack on a Washington statue on Thursday in the same city.
Protesters have pointed to the fact that both former presidents were slave owners.
However, both Oliver and Trump were referring to statues being officially removed rather than vandalized by protesters.
But now, some officials across the country are considering or already planning to remove monuments to the nation’s first and third presidents.
In a park in dowtown Decatur, Ga., a Jefferson statue that is privately owned will be officially removed, according to a protest organizer, Decaturish reported.
Dr. Douglas Bradburn, president and CEO of George Washington’s Mount Vernon, the president’s historic home in Northern Virginia, said in a statement last week, “Without George Washington, there would be no United States of America; there would be no Constitution, which allows the freedom of speech, assembly, and protest, as well as the separation of church from state — and without Washington we would not have civilian-led military.”

He added, “If we fail to honor George Washington, because we understand him only as a slave owner, we will lose the story of the United States, for it will have no beginning and very little direction,” according to Just the News.

]]>As a peaceful Black Lives Matter march made its way through Franklin Township, N.J., the group protesting against police brutality and systemic racism walked past a white man kneeling on the neck of another white man in a mocking reenactment of George Floyd’s death.
The men were part of a group of white counterprotesters with flags supporting President Trump and “Blue Lives Matter” that barked, “Black lives matter to no one,” and “Police lives matter,” at those marching on Monday to remember Floyd, the unarmed black man whose death after Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin knelt on his neck for almost nine minutes has sparked widespread protests.
“This is what happens when you don’t comply with the cops!” yelled the man who was kneeling on the other man’s neck, according to a video shared to social media. “Comply with the cops and this wouldn’t have happened! He didn’t comply!” (Floyd did indeed comply with police, according to the criminal complaint filed against the officers.)
The man added, “It’s his fault he’s dead, not the cop!”
On Tuesday, after the angry encounter was denounced by state leaders and law enforcement, one of the men in the video, a corrections officer, has been suspended, while another was fired from his job at FedEx.
The New Jersey Department of Corrections announced the suspension of a senior corrections officer at Bayside State Prison in Leesburg, N.J., who has also been banned from state facilities “pending a thorough and expedited investigation.” The corrections officer has not been identified.
“We have been made aware that one of our officers participated in the filming of a hateful and disappointing video that mocked the killing of George Floyd,” the department said in a statement posted to Facebook.
Observers on social media noted that the man dismissed by FedEx was the same person shown kneeling on a white man’s neck as part of the jarring reenactment. Many on Tuesday, including actor-rapper Ice Cube, called for the FedEx employee to be fired for his racist actions.
“We do not tolerate the kind of appalling and offensive behavior depicted in this video,” tweeted FedEx, not naming the former employee. “The individual involved is no longer employed by FedEx. We stand with those who support justice and equality.”

The swift response to the reenactment came on the same day that Floyd, 46, was laid to rest in Houston amid weeks of protests that have gripped the nation.
The video was condemned by New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy (D), who called the actions of the men “repugnant.” Franklin Township Mayor John Bruno and Police Chief Police Chief Brian Zimmer released a joint statement Tuesday denouncing the actions of “certain individuals.”
“This is not who we are as a Community,” the statement said.
The sentiment was echoed by NJ PBA Local 105, the union representing state corrections officers. “We need to continue practicing tolerance and understanding; not discrimination and hate,” the union said in a statement.
In a video shot by one of the counterprotesters, police are shown escorting about 70 marchers down the Franklinville section of the township. The group of white people had gathered on the side of the road on private property, according to NJ.com.
As the protesters made their way down the road, one of the white men dropped facedown to the ground. Then, a man in a backward cap began to kneel on his friend’s neck as he berated the protesters. A counterprotester is heard on a video responding to chants of “Black Lives Matter,” with “to no one.”
“This is unacceptable and disturbing,” tweeted Lexi Fagotti, a Stockton University student who posted one of the videos of the incident to Twitter.
The marchers told reporters that they were appalled by the scene.
“That was a real person, yes, that was willing to get down and show such hate,” resident Russell Sampson said to WPVI.
Daryan Fennal, the 21-year-old organizer of the protest, said he was overcome with emotion when he saw the white men reenacting Floyd’s death.
“It automatically brought me to tears,” Fennal told NBC10. “The display yesterday showed me that racism is real, racism is alive, it’s right next door to you.”

A journalist from CBS’ Chicago affiliate was mocked on Twitter for a report that urged citizens to call 9-1-1 on the ice cream man for breaking coronavirus guidelines.
CBS Chicago investigative correspondent Brad Edwards’ report opened with the joyful sounds of a neighborhood ice cream man but quickly took a turn.

The report then aired footage of another apparent CBS Chicago assignment desk editor staffer confronting the ice cream man; “You think it’s a good idea to be doing this with the stay-at-home order?”
The ice cream man responded, “Why are you trying to take ice cream out of the hands of children?”

The ice cream man and apparent CBS staffer bickered back and forth about coronavirus guidelines before he eventually drove off – all of which was captured on video and included in the report.
Edwards then appeared in-studio who broke the news that “ice cream trucks are banned” in Hoffman Estates, the neighborhood in which the ordeal took place.
“The village manager tells us, if you see that ice cream man – call 9-1-1,” Edwards said.
Edwards then tweeted out the segment, which was immediately criticized by users who felt the reporter was snitching on a man trying to earn a living.

Edwards did not immediately respond to a request for comment on the backlash.
One critic prompted a response from Edwards by asking, “What law is he breaking Brad? Please cite the specific one.”
The reporter fired back, “Ice cream trucks aren’t allowed in Hoffman Estates.”

]]>A special election in California next Tuesday may give Republicans the chance to win back a House seat lost to a Democrat during 2018’s so-called “blue wave.”
Former Rep. Katie Hill, a Democrat, won the seat north of Los Angeles in the state’s 25th Congressional District, which had been a GOP stronghold for more than two decades. But last October, Hill resigned amid a nude photo scandal and accusations by her estranged husband of an inappropriate relationship with a staffer. Hill denied a relationship.
On May 12, voters will decide who will serve out the remainder of Hill’s term in the House. The candidates are Democrat Christy Smith and Republican Mike Garcia. Then in November — against the backdrop of the presidential election — they’ll decide whether to elect Smith or Garcia for a full term.
REPUBLICAN REVENGE: RECORD GOP FIELD FORMS, ON 2020 MISSION TO TAKE DOWN ‘SOCIALISTS’
Smith received a high-profile endorsement from former President Obama this week, but she also got into a bit of hot water when a leaked video showed her mocking Garcia’s focus on his military experience, according to The Hill. Garcia is a former Navy pilot.
She later tried to undo the damage.
“Without question, I have the deepest respect for Mike Garcia’s service to our country and I’m sorry for comments that I made that might suggest otherwise,” she later said in a statement.

The seat of was one 39 Democrats flipped in 2018 but early mail-in ballot returns seem to be favoring Republicans.
So far, 32 percent of registered Republicans have voted in the special election, compared to 20 percent of Democrats and 15 percent of independents, according to The Washington Post.
Complicating the election is the coronavirus pandemic, which makes both campaigning and voting more difficult.
Only a small number of polling locations will be open, which means most voters will need to cast absentee ballots.
Democrats say they will likely do better in November when turnout for the presidential election is expected to be higher.
“We’re trying to run a campaign at the height of the crisis when it is hard to get people’s attention because people are so distracted by the crisis,” Smith said, according to The Post. “We’re hopeful for the best and that the turnout breaks in our favor.”
Hill’s high unfavorability in the district also hasn’t helped Smith, who is a California assemblywoman and former school board member, according to The New York Times.

While Smith calls herself a moderate with public service experience, Garcia has pledged to “to cut taxes, grow jobs, and keep Sacramento policies from spreading to DC” if elected, according to The Post.
