]]>Michelle Obama urged Democrats to take the high road at the virtual Democratic National Convention Monday night amid an ongoing investigation into her husband’s “corrupt” administration, Hoover Institution senior fellow Victor Davis Hanson told “Tucker Carlson Tonight” Tuesday.
“When she says ‘We go high when they go low,’ she’s talking right now when her husband’s administration has weaponized the IRS, the FBI, the DOJ, the CIA, and is the subject of a massive investigation by [Connecticut U.S. Attorney John Durham],” Hanson said.

“It will probably end up, if things happen as many predict, as one of the most corrupt administrations that tried to destroy a political campaign, a president, transition, and a presidency,” Hanson added, “and she’s saying, ‘When they go low, we go high.'”
The former first lady leaned on her most famous catchphrase during a scathing rebuke of the Trump administration. Michelle Obama first uttered the now-viral motto “When they go low, we go high” during her speech in support of Hillary Clinton at the 2016 Democratic National Convention.
Speaking at this year’s event on behalf of presumptive Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden, Obama doubled down on the slogan, arguing that “going high is the only thing that works.”

Hanson also challenged the former first lady’s claim in her remarks that “Black lives are being indiscriminately, almost daily, killed on the street,” which he said represents a “common theme” among Democrats who “say these things that aren’t true.”
“Michelle Obama knows that there were over 100 people killed in one month alone in her hometown in Chicago,” he said. “They weren’t killed by White people. They weren’t killed by the police. There’s been over 400 … she knows what the real problem is, but she also knows that she could go to Chicago with Barack … meet with community leaders and say, ‘We have a crisis in Chicago in general and among the African-American community.'”

However, Hanson continued,”it’s very easy to say something from your Washington or Martha’s Vineyard $20 million estate and mansion because you’re never going to be subject to the ramifications.
“Black Lives Matter’s not going to show up outside of her mansion and there’s not going to be an inner-city shooting match right outside [in] Martha’s Vineyard. So these all become abstractions.”

]]>President Trump on Tuesday hit back at former first lady Michelle Obama, saying he wouldn’t have been elected “if it weren’t for the job done” by her husband, former President Barack Obama.
Trump’s tweets come after the former first lady slammed the president and his administration during the first night of the 2020 Democratic National Convention, saying that his White House operates in “chaos” and without “empathy,” while urging voters to cast their ballots for Joe Biden like their lives depend on it.

“Somebody please explain to @MichelleObama that Donald J. Trump would not be here, in the beautiful White House, if it weren’t for the job done by your husband, Barack Obama,” Trump tweeted early Tuesday.
He added: “Biden was merely an afterthought, a good reason for the very late & unenthusiastic endorsement.”
The president went on to tout his administration for building “the greatest economy in history, of any country, turned it off, saved millions of lives, and now am building an even greater economy than it was before.”
“Jobs are flowing, NASDAQ is already at a record high, the rest to follow,” he said. “Sit back and watch!”
The president, defending his handling of the coronavirus pandemic, then slammed the Obama-Biden administration for their “response” to the H1N1 Swine Flu, which he said was considered “weak and pathetic.”
“Check out the polling, it’s really bad,” he tweeted. “The big difference is that they got a free pass from the Corrupt Fake News Media!”
Trump then shifted to the Russia investigation, blasting the former Obama administration for “spying” on his campaign.
“The ObamaBiden Administration was the most corrupt in history, including the fact that they got caught SPYING ON MY CAMPAIGN, the biggest political scandal in the history of our Country,” Trump said. “It’s called Treason, and more.”
He added: “Thanks for your very kind words Michelle!”
The president’s Twitter broadside came after the former first lady slammed the president in prerecorded remarks, where she stressed the “awesome power of the presidency,” while saying the job “requires clear-headed judgment, a mastery of complex and competing issues, a moral compass and an ability to listen.”
“Whenever we look to this White House for some leadership or consultation or any semblance of steadiness, what we get instead is chaos, division and a total and utter lack of empathy,” she said Monday.
Obama, in an impassioned address, concluded that Trump is “the wrong president for our country.”
“He has had more than enough time…He is clearly in over his head,” she said. “He cannot meet this moment. He simply cannot be who we need him to be for us.”
She added: “It is what it is.”
Obama went on to warn: “If you think things cannot possibly get worse, trust me, they can, and they will if we don’t make a change in this election.”

“If we have any hope of ending this chaos, we have got to vote for Joe Biden like our lives depend on it,” she said. “I know Joe. He is a profoundly decent man guided by faith.”
Obama said “empathy” was something she has “been thinking a lot about lately.”
“The ability to walk in someone else’s shoes. The recognition that someone else’s experience has values, too,” she said. “Most of us practice this without a second thought.”
She went on to say that children in the U.S. “are seeing what happens when we stop requiring empathy of one another.”
“They’re looking around wondering if we’ve been lying to them this whole time,” she said. “They see people shouting in grocery stores unwilling to wear a mask to keep us all safe; they see people calling the police on folks minding their own business just because of the color of their skin…They see our leaders labeling fellow citizens enemy of the state, while emboldening torch-bearing white supremacists.”
Obama went on to reference her “they go low, we go high” catchphrase, explaining that “going high is the only thing that works” but doesn’t always mean being nice.
“When we go low, degrading and dehumanizing others, we just become part of the other noise that’s drowning out everything else,” she said. “Let’s be clear: going high does not mean putting on a smile and saying nice things when confronted by viciousness and cruelty.”
She added: “Going high means going the higher path—scraping and clawing to that mountain top.”
The address was widely praised by Democrats as a powerful indictment of the administration.
Meanwhile, last week, U.S. Attorney John Durham, who was tasked last spring with investigating the origins of the investigation into whether members of the Trump campaign colluded with the Russians to influence the 2016 election, announced his first charges against former FBI lawyer Kevin Clinesmith. Clinesmith was charged with making false statements.
It is unclear if and when more charges could be forthcoming, but Attorney General Bill Barr said earlier this summer that he does not expect Durham’s findings will lead to a “criminal investigation” of either former President Barack Obama or former Vice President Joe Biden — while noting that their concern of “potential criminality” in the conduct of that probe is “focused on others.”

However, a Biden campaign official told Fox News late Monday that Obama’s speech was recorded before the former vice president announced on Aug. 11 he had chosen Harris as his running mate.

Former Democratic National Committee interim chairwoman Donna Brazile, a Fox News contributor, said she was “disappointed” that there was no mention of Harris in the former first lady’s remarks.
“She kept talking about Joe Biden, and she knows Joe Biden very well, but she also knows Kamala Harris, [who was] one of the first to endorse Barack Obama when he ran [for president in 2008], so I was disappointed,” said Brazile, who later added, “”I just heard that perhaps she taped the speech before the announcement, but I am disappointed that we did not hear about Kamala Harris.

“The first Black first lady of the United States did not mention the first Black female ever to be on a major party ticket,” she emphasized. “So I am a little disappointed that I did not hear that.
Last week, however, Michelle Obama cheered Harris’ selection as Biden’s running mate in a series of lengthy posts on her personal Instagram page.
“You get used to it, even as a little girl — opening the newspaper, turning on the TV, and hardly ever seeing anyone who looks like you,” Obama wrote. “You train yourself to not get your hopes up. And sometimes it’s a battle just to keep telling yourself that you might deserve more. Because no matter how much you prepare, no matter what grades you get or even how high you rise at work, it always feels like someone is waiting to tell you that you’re not qualified. That you’re not smart enough. That you’re too loud or too bossy. That there’s just something about you…you’re just not quite the right fit.

]]>Former first lady Michelle Obama, in the keynote address at the Democratic National Convention, said that President Trump has shown that he is the “wrong president for our country.”
“He has had more than enough time to prove that he can do the job, but he is clearly over his head,” Ms. Obama said. “He cannot meet this moment. He simply cannot be who we need him to be for us. It is what it is.”
Ms. Obama’s address closed out the opening day of the Democratic National Convention, which because of fears over the coronavirus is a virtual event.
Ms. Obama is one of the most popular political figures in the Democratic ranks and is considered one of Mr. Biden’s top surrogates.
Her husband former President Barack Obama is set to address the convention later this week.
In her taped address, Mrs. Obama said that the Obama-Biden administration handed Mr. Trump an economy that was on strong footing and a revamped health care system that extended coverage to millions of Americans.
“Four years later, the state of this nation is very different,” she said. “More than 150,000 people have died and our economy is in shambles because of a virus that this president downplayed for too long.”

]]>Former First Lady Michelle Obama will use her keynote address at the Democratic National Convention to praise Joseph R. Biden as a battle-tested leader who has the skills needed to strengthen the nation and who is “guided by faith.”
Mrs. Obama is set to headline the opening night of the virtual Democratic National Convention, where Mr. Biden and Sen. Kamala Harris are scheduled to officially accept the party’s nomination on Thursday.
“I know Joe, he is a profoundly decent man guided by faith,” Mrs. Obama said in a clip of her taped remarks. “He was a terrific vice president. He knows what it takes to rescue an economy, beat back a pandemic, and lead our country — and he listens.”
Mr. Biden was the first and only Catholic vice president of the United States and, if elected, would be the second Catholic president.
“He will tell the truth and trust science and will make smart plans and manage a good team, and he will govern as someone who has lived a life that the rest of us can recognize,” Mrs. Obama says in her remarks.
Mrs. Obama is held in high regard by Democrats and is expected to serve as one of Mr. Biden’s most powerful surrogates over the homestretch of the campaign.

“Not just because of the quarantine, but because of the racial strife, and just seeing this administration, watching the hypocrisy of it, day in and day out, is dispiriting,” she said in the latest episode of her podcast released Wednesday.
Obama added that the mounting stories of Black people being wrongfully arrested, killed or “dehumanized” have been weighing on her. And while George Floyd’s death in police custody sparked an outpouring of outrage, the issue of racism in America long preceded the incident.
“I’d be remiss to say part of this depression is also a result of what we’re seeing in terms of the protests, the continued racial unrest that has plagued this country since its birth,” she said.

]]>Some of Wall Street’s biggest titans are pumping big bucks into defeating first-term Democratic socialist Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez by bankrolling the campaign of her business-friendly Democratic primary opponent, Michelle Caruso-Cabrera, campaign records reveal.
Caruso-Cabrera’s donors include Blackstone CEO Steve Schwarzman and Goldman Sachs CEO David Solomon. Both gave the maximum $2,800 for the Democratic primary against the far-left freshman AOC.
Home Depot co-founder Ken Langone and his wife, Elaine, kicked in a combined $11,200 to Caruso-Cabrera. They gave the maximum each for primary ($2,800) and general election ($2,800) — Caruso-Cabrera can only spend half of that for the primary.
The Post previously reported that pro-President Trump Republicans and corporate types contributed to Caruso-Cabrera’s campaign as well as an anti-AOC super PAC partly financed by her husband, investment banker and GOP donor Stephen Dizard.
Wall Street titans are pumping thousands of dollars into the campaign coffers of Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s Democratic primary challenger Michelle Caruso-Cabrera.
Caruso-Cabrera, a former business journalist and CNBC host, is challenging Ocasio-Cortez in next Tuesday’s June 23 primary in the 14th Congressional District that takes in neighborhoods in parts of The Bronx and Queens.
AOC shocked the political world two years ago when she toppled Congressman and Queens Democratic Party chairman Joe Crowley in the Democratic primary. She has become a leading voice on the political far left.
The first-time incumbent had $4.6 million in cash on hand to Caruso-Cabrera’s $1 million, according to reports filed with the Federal Election Commission.
“It’s not surprising that Republicans would finance the campaign of a lifelong Republican in a Democratic primary,” said Ocasio-Cortez’s spokeswoman, Lauren Hitt.
“While we have pushed against corporate power with policies that favor everyday working Americans, those donors prefer to bankroll a candidate who answers to Wall Street over the needs of our constituents.”
Caruso-Cabrera’s camp defended the Wall Street donations, saying the finance money is coming because she’s the pro-jobs candidate while Ocasio-Cortez opposed the aborted Amazon plan to open a headquarters along the Queens waterfront that the company said would have created 25,000 jobs.
“New York businesses are supporting a Caruso-Cabrera because she wants to create jobs for people. What’s bad about that? Compare that with AOC, who chased 25,000 jobs out of New York,” said Caruso-Cabrera spokesman Hank Sheinkopf.

]]>SANTA FE, N.M. — New Mexico Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham says she will help make sure that racial- and ethnic-minority voters know about the potential benefits of electing Joe Biden as president.
Asked Wednesday at an online news conference whether she would accept a potential invitation to run for vice president in November, Lujan Grisham said she is completely dedicated to her job as governor but also will provide specialized support to Biden’s presidential campaign.
“I do want minority voters to know what the benefits of a Biden presidency can be and what those values are: health care, education, a strong economy, equality, dealing with productive immigration reform, all of it,” Lujan Grisham said. “And that will be my job during the upcoming primary primary and the general election.”
New Mexico has the nation’s highest proportion of Hispanic residents – many tracing their local ancestry to the era of Mexican and Spanish rule. Native American’s make up nearly 11% of the state population.
Lujan Grisham, a former three-term congresswoman and state health secretary, has put New Mexico on an aggressive lockdown as the coronavirus arrived in New Mexico and has vowed to only reopen the economy if the state meets milestones in limiting and tracking the contagion’s spread.
Lujan Grisham acknowledged “flattering news” about the recruiting process for vice presidential contenders.
“There is flattering news about a variety of incredible women around the country, and I appreciate the recognition of the work that we’re doing in the state and my experience,” said Lujan Grisham, highlighting her status as a Democratic, Latina governor.
