]]>A former U.S. Navy fighter pilot spoke this month about what he says was an encounter with a “Tic Tac”-shaped UFO and believes the flying object committed an “act of war.”
Retired Cmdr. David Fravor recalled the strange encounter off San Diego 16 years ago in a Sept. 8 podcast with MIT research scientist Lex Fridman.
Fravor says he was dispatched to investigate radar anomalies and later described what he saw as “like nothing I’ve ever seen” – a Tic Tac-shaped object able to turn on a dime and make itself invisible to radar, New Zealand’s TV Channel 3 reported.

He was followed by other pilots who managed to catch it on video. Clips were leaked in 2017 by a UFO research group founded by punk singer Tom DeLonge of Blink 182, and formally declassified in 2020 by the Pentagon, according to the station.
“This is not like, ‘we saw it and it was gone’, or ‘I saw lights in the sky and it’s gone’ – we watched this thing on a crystal clear day with four trained observers,” Fravor said.
He said he tried to get close to it, but as he did so it accelerated so quickly, it was gone in half a second, according to Channel 3.
“I remember telling the guy in my back seat, ‘Dude, I dunno about you but I’m pretty weirded out,'” Fravor said, according to the station,

Once he landed, Fravor mentioned the object to another pilot, Chad Underwood, the station reported.
Underwood found the UFO, aimed his radar at it – and got jammed.
“He’s telling the radar, ‘Stare down the line of sight, whatever is there I want you to grab it and build a trace file on it,’ which will tell you where it is, how fast it is and the direction that it’s going,” Fravor told Fridman, according to the station.
“The radar is smart enough that when the signal comes back if it’s been messed with, it will tell you – it will give you indications that it’s being jammed… It’s being jammed into about every mode you can see… You can tell it’s being jammed,” he said.
“When you actively jam another platform, that’s technically an act of war,” Fravor told Fridman.

]]>American F-22 fighter jets intercepted Russian nuclear-capable bombers near Alaska on Wednesday, Russian media said, marking another in a series of close aerial encounters between the two nations.
The U.S. fighters reportedly intercepted and escorted Russian Tu-95MS planes in the waters off Alaska’s coast. The Pentagon has not commented on the incident.
“Four strategic Tu-95MS missile carriers of the Russian Aerospace Forces’ long-range aviation conducted a planned flight over the neutral waters of the Chukchi Sea, the Bering Sea, the Sea of Okhotsk, and the northern part of the Pacific Ocean ,” the Russian Defense Ministry said in a statement, according to Russia’s Sputnik News. “At certain stages of the flight, the Russian planes were escorted by US Air Force F-22 fighters.”
The Russian flight lasted about 11 hours, Moscow said.
U.S. and Russian aircraft have been involved in a host of close encounters in recent months. Just two weeks ago, Russian fighter jets buzzed U.S. Navy aircraft over the Mediterranean Sea in what Pentagon officials described as “unsafe and unprofessional” actions.

]]>A pair of Russian air-defense fighter jets buzzed a U.S. Navy patrol aircraft over the Mediterranean Sea on Tuesday in what officials called an “unsafe and unprofessional manner.”
The U.S. Navy P-8A Maritime Patrol and Reconnaissance Aircraft was over international waters in the eastern Mediterranean region when it was intercepted by two Russian Su-35 fighters.
For more than an hour, the Russian jets were on each wing of the P-8A patrol aircraft, which is based on the civilian 737 airliner. The dangerous maneuver restricted the patrol aircraft’s ability to operate in a safe manner, Navy officials said.
“The unnecessary actions of the Russian Su-35 pilots were inconsistent with good airmanship and international flight rules, and jeopardized the safety of flight of both aircraft,” Navy officials said.
The incident was the third such close call in the same region since April.
“In all cases, the U.S. aircraft were operating in international airspace, consistent with international law, with due regard for safety of flight, and did not provoke this Russian activity,” Navy officials said.
