NHS England is launching a new service for people with ongoing health problems after having coronavirus.
The government says “tens of thousands” of people have long-term symptoms after catching Covid-19.
“Your Covid Recovery” will be an online portal for people in England to access tutorials, contact healthcare workers and track their progress.
The project will be rolled out in two phases, with the web portal launching later this month.
It will only be accessible via a personal log-in and will be available to virus patients who had to be treated in hospital, as well as to those who managed their illness at home.
Later in the summer, tailored rehabilitation will also be offered to those who qualify, following an assessment.
Each programme will last a maximum of 12 weeks, the Department of Health and Social Care said.

The online portal pilot site is called Space for COPD (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease)
The service, which was developed and piloted in Leicester, will include access to mental health services, community support groups and exercise tutorials, either online or over the phone.
Health Secretary Matt Hancock said the portal would “give people who have survived the virus on-demand access to online clinical support” for problems with breathing, mental health or other complications.
He added that the government was investing “millions” into researching long-term effects of the virus.
Sir Simon Stevens, chief executive of NHS England, said: “Rolling out Your Covid Recovery, alongside expanding and strengthening community health and care services, is another example of how the NHS must bring the old and the new together to create better and more convenient services for patients.”
The new service was announced on the day of the 72nd birthday of the NHS, which was founded on 5 July 1948.

Former New England Patriots tight end Christian Fauria knows what it’s like to catch passes from Tom Brady. And even though Brady led the Patriots to six Super Bowl titles and was the face of the organization for 20 years, Fauria believes the team will benefit from the quarterback moving on.
“They’re better off without him,” Fauria told WEEI on Thursday. “Can I tell you why? And it has nothing to do with Brady’s skill set. It’s not because he’s not good or he can’t throw it, or he’s lost some speed on his fastball.”

“It’s because where he was in his career, his age, what he wanted to achieve, and what the Patriots were trying to achieve were completely different. So it was never going to work out. They were never going to see eye to eye,” he said.
“This offense is not going to be able to move forward with Brady as the quarterback, not because he sucks. Those throwaways were important. It’s because he wasn’t willing to adapt. There’s the difference. He wasn’t willing to let N’Keal Harry grow,” Fauria added.

Fauria believes Patriots are “better off” without Brady because he wasn’t willing to wait for Harry, a 2019 first-round draft pick, to develop at the position. Brady left the Patriots earlier this offseason to sign a two-year, $50 million contract with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
“This year. Right now, the offense is better off without Tom Brady,” Fauria added. “They are better off without him this year, yes.”

About 1 in 5 adults in England believe the coronavirus is to some extent a hoax, according to research on conspiracy theories by the University of Oxford.
In addition, researchers found nearly 3 out of 5 adults in England believe the government is misleading them to some extent about the cause of the virus, and nearly 1 in 10 strongly agree that China developed the coronavirus to destroy the West — which is utterly false.
“A disconcertingly high number of adults in England do not agree with the scientific and governmental consensus on the coronavirus pandemic,” the researchers found.
The research was based on surveys of 2,500 adults earlier this month and published in the journal, Psychological Medicine.
Lead researcher and psychology professor Daniel Freeman said the pandemic has the necessary ingredients to fuel conspiracy theories, including sustained threat and enforced change. He added that those who believe conspiracy theories are less likely to follow government guidance designed to save lives.
“Those who believe in conspiracy theories also say that they are less likely to accept a vaccination, take a diagnostic test or wear a face mask,” Freeman said. “The beliefs look to be corrosive to our necessary collective response to the crisis. In the wake of the epidemic, mistrust looks to have become mainstream.”
In the United Kingdom some people have acted on conspiracy theories. More than 100 cellphone towers have been burned amid unfounded conspiracy theories that the new mobile technology known as fifth generation either spreads the virus or the lockdown is a cover for rolling out 5G.
Stephen Powis, national medical director for England’s National Health Service, called the theories “complete and utter rubbish.”
Powis added that attacking communications infrastructure in the midst of a pandemic was self-destructive.
“I’m absolutely outraged that people would be taking action against the very infrastructure that we need to respond to this health emergency,” he said.

]]>Data published by the Office for National Statistics (ONS) on Friday reveal the shocking consequences of being poor in England. For deaths involving Covid-19 between March 1 and April 17, the mortality rate in the most deprived areas was 55.1 deaths per 100,000 population, compared to 25.3 deaths in the least deprived areas.

Nick Stripe, head of health analysis at the ONS, said that “General mortality rates are normally higher in more deprived areas,” but Covid-19 appears to be shifting those rates even higher. The worst-affected area in the whole country is Newham in London, which had 144 deaths per 100,000 population.
London overall has suffered most from coronavirus, with 85.7 deaths per 100,000 people, a figure described as “significantly” worse than anywhere else in the UK. The local authorities with the highest mortality rates were all in the UK capital’s boroughs.
The striking Covid-19 statistics ostensibly go against British PM Boris Johnson’s assertion that other nations around the world have been looking on in envy at his government’s handling of the pandemic.
Outside Number 10 on Monday, Johnson boasted: “I know there will be many people looking now at our apparent success,” remarks that provoked a fierce backlash from critics, who suggested other countries are looking on in horror.
Latest figures released by the Department for Health & Social Care show the Covid-19 death toll in the UK rising to 26,771 – 674 in the last 24-hour period. Authorities are now including deaths outside of hospitals in their data. It means the UK now has the third highest amount of coronavirus fatalities in the world, behind the US and Italy.
