]]>A trucking company owner told Fox News on Wednesday that in order to keep drivers safe, he will not direct services to cities that are pushing to defund the police.
“Our first priority is to support our drivers and their safety when they are on the road,” co-owner of JKC Trucking Mike Kucharski told “Fox & Friends First.”
Kucharski said that defunding the police is a bad idea because drivers carry valuable cargo on the road for weeks.
“Everybody wants to steal this,” Kucharski said.

A soon-to-be-released survey of 258 police departments nationwide shows almost half have had their budgets cut amid calls for police to be defunded despite increases in gun violence and otherwise violent crime in some parts of the country, according to USA Today.
The outlet was first to report that the Police Executive Research Forum publication, which is expected to be released in the coming days, shows cuts in the police budgets are largely being made to training and equipment.

Protesters are pushing to “defund the police” over the death of George Floyd and other Black Americans killed by law enforcement.
Floyd died after a white police officer, Derek Chauvin, held his knee on his neck for nearly nine minutes despite Floyd’s several shouts that he couldn’t breathe. Floyd was handcuffed at the time.

Kucharski said that his company is also avoiding states pushing to defund the police because his insurance coverage is prone to dissolve.
“Another issue that I am seeing in the future is I have cargo insurance, liability insurance, fiscal damage insurance, and I am very curious how when I renew my contracts at the end of the year, if there is going to be language — if I am going to even have coverage going into these places,” Kucharski said.
“Right now I have coverage going all over domestically. You have to get special coverage for Canada or Mexico or you might have to buy special riders for this on top of everything.”

]]>A prominent Delaware law firm founded by presumptive Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden received a Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) loan for between $150,000 and $350,000, according to records released Monday by the Treasury Department and the Small Business Administration.
The Trump campaign told Fox News that the records conflict with recent messaging from the Biden campaign that the PPP program is both ineffective and a vehicle to reward Trump “cronies.”
“Instead of attacking President Trump as an involuntary reflex, maybe Joe Biden should just say ‘thank you’ once in a while,” Trump campaign director of communications Tim Murtaugh told Fox News. “The PPP saved 51 million jobs nationally, including at Biden’s old law firm and a number of companies connected to Obama administration alums. A very likely explanation is that Biden simply doesn’t know what he’s talking about and would rather make a political weapon out of a program that helped people make their rent and mortgage payments.”
The law firm that received the big payout was originally founded as Biden and Walsh and is now known as Monzack Mersky McLaughlin and Browder.
Melvyn Monzack, who the former vice president called one of his “great friends” in 2017, has maintained close ties to the former vice president. He served as Biden’s 2002 Senate reelection treasurer, as well as the treasurer for Biden’s 2008 presidential run.

According to CBS News, Monzack, who has donated thousands to Biden’s presidential campaign, attended a state dinner at the White House for Chinese President Hu Jintao in 2011. The law firm is also a registered agent for companies tied to Biden.
Records reviewed by Fox News show that on July 6, 1987, Biden gave Monzack his legal power of attorney to “demand, sue for and receive all debts, moneys, securities for money, goods, chattels, or other personal property.”

Last week, the Biden campaign released a video that included a small business owner saying the Trump administration had done nothing to help her; the advertisement did not disclose that the business owner received thousands in federal relief money. Biden and his allies have also stepped up their attacks on what they call President Trump’s cronyism in the distribution of stimulus money.
A Biden aide shot back after this story was published — both at the Trump campaign, and Fox News.
“The only thing this story tells us is how desperate the Trump campaign is to find an attack on Vice President Biden that sticks, and how eager Fox News is to help them in their efforts,” the aide said. “Joe Biden isn’t the president (yet) and has no control over how PPP funds are distributed, so perhaps instead of covering how a law firm Biden worked briefly at decades ago got a loan, Fox News should examine why the single biggest recipient of PPP funds was a massive Trump donor, or why 40 Trump-connected lobbyists were able to steer more than $10 billion in taxpayer money to their wealthy clients.”

Meanwhile, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s team is rejecting reports that a business connected to her husband received big money under the government’s emergency coronavirus relief program — arguing that his connection to the company is minimial.
The company, EDI Associates in San Rafael, California, has 52 employees and says it’s in the “full-service restaurant business,” government documents show. The company received between $350,000 and $1 million in Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) money.
“He’s an investor,” Pelosi spokesperson Drew Hammill told Fox News. “He wasn’t involved in the application for the loan nor was he aware of it.”
The Washington Post and Bloomberg reported that EDI Associates is identified in Pelosi’s disclosure forms “as a limited partnership with an investment in the El Dorado Hotel. … The value of the asset on the form — identified as belonging to Pelosi’s spouse — is listed as between $250,001 and $500,000.”
The paper noted that “four other House members surfaced in previous reports about businesses” that took PPP money, including Republican Reps. Roger Williams of Texas and Vicky Hartzler of Missouri and Democrats Susie Lee of Nevada and Debbie Mucarsel-Powell of Florida, who “have ties to companies that are either run by their families or employ their spouses as a senior executives.”
The Daily Beast reported that other well-known individuals and entities received generous PPP funds, including “a fiscal responsibility advocacy organization run by anti-tax crusader Grover Norquist, a high-powered consulting firm run by former Secretary of State Madeleine Albright, the nonprofit headed by former Trump campaign official David Bossie, and a political strategy firm linked to two alumni of the Obama White House who’ve turned anti-Trump podcasting into a lucrative enterprise.”
President Trump signed a bill on Saturday extending the PPP, a lifeline to businesses struggling to keep paying employees, through Aug. 8
The measure also separates the authorized limits for commitments under the PPP from other Small Business Administration loan programs.
On Monday, the Treasury Department and Small Business Administration disclosed businesses that have received $150,000 as part of the PPP — a list that includes about two-thirds of total dollars lent, but a much smaller percentage of total loans. The loans can be converted into grants in certain conditions.

]]>A Minneapolis manufacturing company, whose plant burned amid civil unrest following George Floyd’s death, is leaving the city after nearly four decades and taking dozens of jobs with it.
The president and owner of 7-Sigma Inc. Kris Wyrobek felt inclined to do so after he says he lost trust in public officials during the riots that plagued the city, according to Star Tribune.
“They don’t care about my business,” said Wyrobek told the Star Tribune. “They didn’t protect our people. We were all on our own.”
The company, which designs and manufactures polymer solutions and precision metal components, has been operating in south Minneapolis since 1987. The city will effectively lose 50 jobs when Wyrobek takes his business elsewhere, according to the outlet.
Wyrobek isn’t alone in his frustration. The city of Minneapolis says the looting and property damage have already caused at least $55 million in destruction so far.

The violence followed the death of Floyd, a black man who died May 25 after a white Minneapolis police officer pressed his knee on Floyd’s neck while he was handcuffed.

Although first-term Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey quickly expressed outrage and called for charges against the officer, he faced backlash for failing to quell the destruction. Gov. Tim Walz — like Frey, a Democrat — criticized the “abject failure” of the city’s response and called on the National Guard at the mayor’s request to help restore peace.

On the first night of the protests, Wyrobek shut operations down and sent his employees home hours early, the outlet reported. Wyrobek took action after employees noticed a fire broke out at the affordable housing complex next door.
Although the fire engine was outside the building, Wyrobek recalled that “they wouldn’t do anything.”
Frey told the Star Tribune that he was unaware of Wyrobek’s decision to leave but said every fire truck was operating during the unprecedented crisis.
“This was a Guard-sized crisis and demanded a Guard-sized response,” Frey said. “And once we had the full presence of the National Guard — which by the way hasn’t been deployed since World War II — there was a significantly different result.”
7-Sigma Inc. was not able to be reached for comment by phone or email. Representatives for the city, including Mayor Jacob Frey, have not responded to FOX Business’ requests for comment.
Frey is now asking for state and federal aid to help rebuild after the civil unrest. Until that happens, community members are pitching in to support Minneapolis neighborhoods.

The Post said that the payments included more than 1,600 nightly room rentals at Trump’s hotels and clubs. According to the paper, the rooms were for staffers and Secret Service agents that accompanied the president on his travels, not for Trump and his family.
Breaking down the nightly stats, the Post found that agencies paid for 530 nights at Trump’s Mar-a-Lago club in Florida and 950 nights at Trump’s golf club in Bedminster, N.J.
Trump has said that while he still owns the Trump Organization, he has given control of the company to his two adult sons.

In its analysis, however, the Post found no such rate for any of the rooms that the government booked.
The Post also noted that the data is incomplete, as the numbers have been released gradually in pieces from the different government agencies.
The Trump Organization exceeded this total in March 2017, when Trump had been in office for less than two full months, according to the Post’s analysis.
The president’s company did not respond to the Post’s inquiries for comment.
