]]>Barstool Sports Founder and President Dave Portnoy recently revealed what he’s lost and gained while day trading.
In a FOX Business Town Hall Wednesday, Portnoy told “Making Money with Charles Payne” that it’s been “six-figure days” for his personal investments.
“I’ve deposited $5 million. I’m at about $9.5 million right now,” he said. “So I’m above $4.5 million in that. My private account is doing well and it’s been six-figure days. That’s the new slogan here. Six-figure days only.”

Portnoy said his investment strategy relies on momentum, strong stocks and ignoring the “doom and gloom” that some networks perceive in the markets.
“The more I got accumulated to it, my brain was able to wrap around it all,” he said. “Instead of listening to all the idiots on these networks who were telling me doom and gloom and short and this and that, I trusted myself. And we’ve had a nice turnaround.”

]]>Barstool Sports founder Dave Portnoy accused “The View” co-host Sunny Hostin of lying about him on Monday after the daytime talk show dissected the president’s decision to speak with the controversial media mogul.
President Trump sat down for a candid interview with Portnoy last week to discuss a variety of topics, including Twitter and the coronavirus outbreak. The wildly popular interview has been viewed millions of times – but Hostin wasn’t a fan.

“It didn’t strike me as odd, at all, that [Trump] chose to sit with Dave Portnoy, because Dave Portnoy is such a controversial figure. I mean, he’s had many of his employees quit because of racism, he called [Colin] Kaepernick an ‘ISIS guy’… over a dozen women, Barstool Sports reporters refused to sit down with HBO because they feared rape threats, he’s been on video using the n-word and, so, it’s not surprising to me that Trump would sit down with someone with that kind of reputation,” Hostin said.
Portnoy quickly took to Twitter to defend himself, noting that HBO did a “full story” on him, he’s never made a rape threat so Hostin’s claim is “a flat lie” and his controversial use of the n-word occurred when quoting lyrics to a rap song.
“Context matters,” Portnoy wrote, adding “#FakeNews.”

“The View” did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
Barstool Sports has emerged as one of the most influential and popular new media companies in America, but has become more and more polarizing along the way. Last year, HBO’s “Real Sports” aired a detailed look at the company, which was anchored by Soledad O’Brien.
Earlier this month, Portnoy offered an apology to his employees over resurfaced remarks he made several years ago about Kaepernick despite previously vowing he would not “bend the knee” to the viral cancel culture mob.
Portnoy initially defended his remarks, insisting it was “literally a joke from ‘The Office’,” while acknowledging they wouldn’t be tasteful today and dismissed his critics who he thought were “haters” who had wanted to get rid of him for years.
Portnoy struck a drastically different tone a few days later with a video message mostly addressing his own staff.
“I wasn’t going to apologize because I knew I was trying to be funny. I wasn’t trying to offend. The intent was to make people laugh,” Portnoy said. “Here’s what happened: unbeknownst to me and something I didn’t plan on doing, I alienated a lot of the people who work for me now.”
He explained that over the years his company has hired more minorities and women, insisting they shouldn’t have to “defend” him or working for the company.

“I did a very poor job in that first video making it clear who I believe I was responding to, which is just pure Barstool haters,” Portnoy continued. “I don’t care what people who don’t know me think about me. I care very much about people who do know me and work at Barstool and if they’re bringing up concerns and issues, I’ll always f—in’ listen. And they have been bringing up the issues. They’re like, ‘You have to admit this is f—in’ wrong.'”
Portnoy continued, “I should have had their back from the very beginning and been like, ‘Yep, I wish I didn’t f—in’ say that s—, I’m sorry.'”

]]>President Trump sat down for a candid interview with Barstool Sports founder Dave Portnoy to discuss sports, Twitter and the coronavirus outbreak.
Portnoy began the interview by praising Trump for being the only one to “sniff out” the prank during his appearance on Sacha Baron Cohen’s “The Ali G Show.”
“You’re right, I was the only one — I said ‘this guy’s a total fraud’ and I left… You’re the only that has given me credit for that!” Trump told Portnoy.
Portnoy pivoted to the president’s past disapproval of kneeling protests during the national anthem as well as the recent protests that have taken place in cities across the country, asking him “what would you do” to show displeasure with the country.
“Well, I mean you can always say you can run for office, right? You become successful, you can run for a lower office, you can do things,” Trump responded. “But there are ways, you can get groups together and there can be friendly ways of doing it, very successful. You’re gonna have rebounds, negative rebounds if it keeps up the way it is.”
Trump defending sending “tough people” to Portland, which has been widely criticized.
The Barstool Sports founder then asked how he could “close the divide” in the country. The president claimed “it was happening” before the coronavirus outbreak, touting the strong economic numbers and economic recovery.
“China sent us this horrible, bad present, a real bad present,” Trump said. They could have stop it, they should have stopped it.”
The two then discussed Trump’s Twitter activity.
“Do you love doing Twitter?” Portnoy asked.
“There are times when I love it, too much sometimes,” Trump grinned before touting the “voice” he has in order to bypass what he calls “fake news.”

Portnoy then pressed the president on the tweets he receives backlash for.
“Do you sometimes — because I follow you on Twitter and I know I do this… do you ever tweet out and be like — you wake up and, ‘Aw man, I wish I didn’t send that one out’?” Portnoy asked.
“Often, too often,” Trump responded. “It used to be in the old days before this, you’d write a letter and you’d say this letter is very big. You put it on your desk and then you go back tomorrow and you say, ‘Oh, I’m glad I didn’t send it,’ right? But we don’t do that with Twitter, right? We put it out instantaneously, we feel great, and then you start getting phone calls — ‘Did you really say this?’ I say, ‘What’s wrong with that?’ and you find out a lot of things.”
Trump then acknowledged that “it’s the retweets” that get him “into trouble” versus the tweets he writes himself.
“You’ve been caught retweeting people, being like, ‘Oh, you just retweeted this crazy person,’ so you don’t even look. You just press retweet and you just fire from the hip,” the Barstool Sports CEO said.
“You see something that looks good and you don’t investigate it and you don’t know what’s on the helmet exactly, right, which is a miniature and you don’t blow it up, and it sometimes — I have found that almost always it’s the retweets that get you in trouble,” Trump said.
Portnoy then mentioned Dr. Anthony Fauci and how he was throwing the first pitch at Thursday’s Nationals game. Trump praised the health expert as a “good basketball player.”
“He’s actually a very nice guy,” Trump said. “We don’t always agree on everything. He’d like to do things that I don’t like to do, but ultimately I make the decision. But we make it — all — a group of people. And he’s been here for like 45 years, for many, many years. And he’s a nice man actually.”
Portnoy acknowledged that Dr. Fauci was on his “x” list because “my stocks tank” whenever the task force member encourages the lockdowns.
“He’d like it to see it closed up for a couple of years, but that’s okay because I’m president, I appreciate your opinion, now give me another opinion, someone please,” Trump responded. “We’re open and we’re doing well. And I just had a press conference about opening the schools. You’ve got to open the schools.”

Trump was later asked about how he had a “dream life” even before becoming president as a businessman and a reality TV star. He expressed no regret running for office but noted how he had been “treated unfairly” since entering politics, highlighting the “Russia hoax.”
“Somebody said, ‘Who is the toughest to deal with? Is it Russia? Is it China? Could it be North Korea?’ I said, no. The toughest is the United States. It’s the toughest to deal with,” Trump explained. “When you look at what I have to do… I have so many people on the left, call them Democrats, call them whatever you want. And then you look at what they’re doing with cities. Every city is run by a liberal Democrat and they’re going to hell and we have to do something.”

EXCLUSIVE: Barstool Sports founder Dave Portnoy, who was thrust into the national COVID-19 conversation when his thoughts on the pandemic went viral last week, feels some members of the mainstream media have amplified concerns about states reopening simply out of disdain for President Trump.
“If Trump was on the other end of the spectrum, being like ‘Let’s keep the country locked down,’ my guess is the other people who don’t like him would say, ‘No, we got to open up.’ That just seems to be the nature of where we’re at in this country, unfortunately,” Portnoy told Fox News on Monday. “He is obviously a lightning rod.”
BARSTOOL SPORTS’ DAVE PORTNOY LETS LOOSE WITH PROFANE MONOLOGUE AGAINST CORONAVIRUS LOCKDOWNS
Portnoy, known by fans as “El Presidente,” went viral with a profanity-laced video questioning how long Americans can afford to have the economy shut down by the government’s COVID-19 policies. The Barstool founder has evolved from the publisher of a tiny “gambling and sports” newspaper in 2003 to full-blown media mogul largely because of his ability to create viral Internet content — but he had no idea that over eight million people would care about his thoughts on the coronavirus pandemic.
The video, “Emergency Press Conference – When Did Flattening The Curve Turn Into Finding The Cure,” stressed that small business owners shouldn’t have to start over because of coronavirus-related shutdowns and guidelines.

“I would rather die of corona… or take my chances… I don’t want to start over… There are no great options but you can’t just decimate the entire economy,” he said in the video that was viewed over 8 million times in five days.
“I don’t give a ton of forethought. As crazy as it sounds, there is almost nothing I say or do with the intent of going viral, I just kind of say what I feel,” Portnoy said. “It obviously resonated with a ton of people but I didn’t dream that it would go this viral.
“Are we just done as humans? … You have to take risks. We’re Americans,” Portney stressed in the video.
Portnoy is outspoken on social media on a daily basis, venting about everything from floppy pizza to the stock market, but he feels the political nature of the coronavirus lockdowns contributed to the video’s popularity.
“Anything that seems to do with politics, and corona shouldn’t have anything to do with politics, but it’s clearly been politicized, people are so passionate, those tend to have a more viral nature to them,” he said.
During a recent appearance on CNBC, Portnoy was presented with statistics that indicated some states that have re-opened have seen an increase in coronavirus cases. But during the live interview, Portnoy claimed that CNBC’s Melissa Lee didn’t include Georgia because it didn’t fit the network’s agenda.
“Depending on your angle, you could pull any stats, any number, anything you want to create the case you want,” he told CNBC.
“It definitely seems like there are politics behind how you feel on corona, which I never really understood. I don’t think it’s just right or left, I mean, the extremes on both sides, you can almost predict what they’d say about it,” Portnoy said when asked about his CNBC interview.
Tech billionaire Elon Musk urged Portnoy to run for public office after agreeing with his sentiments in the video. Portnoy, who said he did not have a relationship with Musk prior to his complimentary tweet, doesn’t plan on seeking a new job in the world of politics anytime soon.

“Something would have to really change or anger me. I like my life, I wouldn’t want Trump’s life,” he said. “It’s not something that I could see myself wanting. I’m pretty clear with Barstool my goal is always to make money and enjoy my life. I think a life in politics, for the most part, is life that does not seem enjoyable to me.”
People in New York gathered in large groups over the weekend and were criticized for disregarding social distancing guidelines. While some of them were presumably among those who watched Portnoy’s video, he doesn’t think his rant actually led to people going outside.
“I don’t think that’s related, I live right here in Manhattan and it’s been a pretty consistent rise in the amount of people going outside. The weather is nice, when you live in the East Coast, when you live in Boston or New York, and the weather starts turning for the first time, I mean, people want to get outside,” he said. “They’re like animals being caged in and it’s very difficult. We’ve been doing this now for over two months and it’s 75 and sunny. People are starting to go outside.”

Portnoy is heading to Florida for a few days “to be able to go outside freely” but won’t stick around the Sunshine State until New York opens back up.
“I still have to do work here, so I’ll be back,” Portnoy said, noting that he will open Barstool’s Manhattan office as soon as it’s allowed.

Barstool founder Dave Portnoy, known by fans as “El Presidente,” went viral Wednesday on Twitter with a profane rant fighting back against coronavirus lockdowns.
Entitled “Emergency Press Conference – When Did Flattening The Curve Turn Into Finding The Cure,” Portnoy emotionally warned about the plight of Americans confused over whether to stay home or go back out in the world to make a living.
“I would rather die of corona… or take my chances… I don’t want to start over,” he yelled. “There are no great options but you can’t just decimate the entire economy.”
In the U.S., as in many countries, the lockdowns have helped trigger catastrophic levels of job losses. The U.S. unemployment rate soared to 14.7 percent in April, the highest rate since the Great Depression. Roughly 30 million Americans have been out of work.
CORONAVIRUS: WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
“Are we just done as humans? … You have to take risks! We’re Americans!” Portney stressed.
He said Americans should be given the choice to roll the dice.
Worldwide, the virus has infected over 4.3 million people and killed some 297,000, according to the Johns Hopkins University tally. Experts have said the actual numbers likely were far higher.
Portnoy’s tweet received over 12,000 retweets — and almost 40,000 likes, as of Wednesday night.
Portnoy said his company essentially has been a comedy empire camouflaged as a sports website that never sought its anti-PC reputation.
The site’s content often has been vulgar — but fans seemed to embrace it all.

Portnoy started Barstool as a “gambling and sports” newspaper he distributed around Boston back in 2003 and things exploded from there. He sold a majority stake of Barstool to The Chernin Group in early 2016, moving the company’s headquarters from Boston to New York City in the process.
The company’s podcasts have brought in 25 million live streams per month and all together, over 1 billion minutes of Barstool content is consumed annually.
