]]>Four have been arrested on suspicion of arson in West Coast areas already under seige from major destructive and deadly blazes, according to reports.
As wildfires continue to rage across three states, police investigated separate incidents near existing wildfires. Two men in Washington state, one man in Oregon and one woman in California are facing charges, according to the Daily Wire.
The latest reports suggest that at least 20 people have died in California, eight in Oregon and one in Washington state as firefighters struggle to contain already deadly fires.

Ashland, Ore., Police Chief Tighe O’Meara announced Thursday that a criminal investigation was opened into the cause of the Almeda fire calling the circumstances around the fire ‘suspicious’.
The fire sparked in Ashland Tuesday and although it mostly spared the Oregon Shakespeare Festival town, the blaze has killed two people and destroyed hundreds of homes.
“We have good reason to believe that there was a human element to it,” O’Meara said, according to Reuters. “We’re going to pursue it as a criminal investigation until we have reason to believe that it was otherwise.”
Michael Jarrod Bakkela JACKSON COUNTY SHERIFFS OFFICE
Police accused Michael Jarrod Bakkela, 41, of starting a separate fire near the railroad tracks in Phoenix, Ore., Oregon Public Broadcasting reported. In a statement, the sheriff’s office said that while the Almeda fire burned, “residents witnessed Bakkela lighting a fire behind their house on Quail Lane.”
Deputies and Oregon State Police troopers who arrived at the scene said they saw Bakkela “standing close to a very large fire threatening several homes.”
Bakkela has been charged with two counts of first degree arson, 15 counts of first degree criminal mischief and 14 counts of reckless endangering.
Anita Esquivel
Anita Esquivel was arrested in Monterey County, Calif., after starting fires near Highway 101, though the number of fires was not released, according to KION.
The district attorney dismissed suggestions that Esquivel had ties to far-left groups, such as Antifa.

Two unidentified men were arrested in connection to fires in Washington: One man allegedly started a fire on State Route 167 at Meridian, while another man was detained a day later allegedly starting a fire at State Route 512, the Daily Mail reported.

]]>Federal law enforcement officials on Thursday arrested a man in Washington they call a “ringleader” in the recent attempt to destroy the Andrew Jackson statue in Lafayette Square near the White House.
Law enforcement sources tell Fox News that Jason Charter was arrested at his residence Thursday morning, without incident, and charged with destruction of federal property. These sources add that Charter has connections to Antifa and was in a leadership role on the night of June 22 when a large group of protesters tried to pull down the statue.
CHARGES IN ATTEMPT TO TAKE DOWN JACKSON STATUE
“They were very organized,” a federal law enforcement official said. “Charter was on top of the statue and directing people … they had acid, chisels, straps and a human chain preventing police from getting to the statue.”
Charter is expected to make an appearance — likely virtual — in U.S. District Court in Washington on Thursday, Fox News is told.
Protesters say the Andrew Jackson statue is offensive because he was a slave owner and because of his treatment of Native Americans.
Another man, Graham Lloyd, 37, turned himself in for similar charges in Portland, Maine, and had an initial appearance in federal court there on Wednesday afternoon. Lloyd is also accused of destruction of federal property for his role in the attempt to take down the Jackson statue.

A magistrate judge in Maine has transferred Lloyd’s case to federal court in Washington D.C.
These arrests come in the wake of the June 24 executive order signed by President Trump intended to protect monuments and statues.
Trump tweeted, “I just had the privilege of signing a very strong Executive Order protecting American Monuments, Memorials and Statues- and combating recent Criminal Violence. Long prison terms for these lawless acts against our Great Country.”

]]>Iran has issued an arrest warrant and asked Interpol for help in detaining US President Donald Trump and dozens of others it believes carried out the drone strike that killed a top Iranian general in Baghdad.
Tehran prosecutor Ali Alqasimehr said on Monday that Trump, along with more than 30 others Iran accuses of involvement in the January 3 attack that killed General Qassem Soleimani, face “murder and terrorism charges”, the semi-official ISNA news agency reported.
Alqasimehr did not identify anyone else sought other than Trump, but stressed Iran would continue to pursue his prosecution even after his presidency ends.
Interpol, based in Lyon, France, did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
The US’s Iran envoy Brian Hook described the move as a “propaganda stunt”.
“Our assessment is that Interpol does not intervene and issue Red Notices that are based on a political nature,” Hook said at a news conference in Saudi Arabia.
“This is a political nature. This has nothing to do with national security, international peace or promoting stability … It is a propaganda stunt that no-one takes seriously,” he said.

Red notice request
Alqasimehr was also quoted as saying Iran had requested a “red notice” be put out for Trump and the others, the highest-level notice issued by Interpol, requesting that seeks the location and arrest of the individual named.
Under a red notice, local authorities make the arrests on behalf of the country that requested it. The notices cannot force countries to arrest or extradite suspects, but can put government leaders on the spot and limit suspects’ travel.
After receiving a request, Interpol meets by committee and discusses whether or not to share the information with its member states. Interpol has no requirement for making any of the notices public, though some do get published on its website.
It is unlikely Interpol would grant Iran’s request as its guideline for notices forbids it from “undertaking any intervention or activities of a political” nature.
The US killed General Soleimani, who oversaw the Revolutionary Guard Corps’s expeditionary Quds Force, and others in the January attack near Baghdad International Airport.
The assassination came after months of incidents raising tensions between the two countries and ultimately saw Iran retaliate with a ballistic missile strike targeting American troops in Iraq.

]]>Iran on Monday issued an “arrest warrant” for President Trump and more than 30 other foreign officials for their role in the January killing of top Iranian Gen. Qassem Soleimani, according to the country’s Fars News Agency.
Iranian officials said “red alerts” already have been issued for Mr. Trump and 35 other officials and that Tehran is seeking the help of Interpol to apprehend them. Iran did not name the other 35 officials but said that Mr. Trump “stands at the top of the list and will be prosecuted” as soon as he leaves office.
“Thirty-six individuals who have been involved or ordered the assassination of Hajj Qassem, including the political and military officials of the U.S. and other governments, have been identified and arrest warrants have been issued for them by the judiciary officials and red alerts have also been issued for them via the Interpol,” Tehran’s Prosecutor-General Ali Alqasi Meh said, as quoted by Fars.
Mr. Trump and the 35 others, Iranian officials said, stand accused of “murder and terrorist action.”
On Jan. 3, the U.S. launched an airstrike near Baghdad International Airport that killed Soleimani, the leader of Iran’s powerful Quds Force, a unit of the country’s Revolutionary Guard Corps.
The Trump administration blamed Soleimani for coordinating attacks by Iranian-backed militias in Iraq against American troops and U.S. contractors.
The highly controversial move nearly sparked an all-out war between the U.S. and Iran. Days after the incident, Iran sought to avenge the Soleimani strike by launching missiles at U.S. forces stationed at Iraq’s al-Asad Air Base.
Dozens of American service members suffered traumatic brain injuries during the assault but none were killed.
Mr. Trump decided against direct retaliation for that attack.

]]>ATLANTA — An arrest warrant has been issued for a 29-year-old woman in connection with the fire that destroyed the Wendy’s restaurant on University Avenue last weekend.
According to a release from Sgt. Cortez Stafford from the Atlanta Fire Rescue Department, an arrest warrant has been issued for Natalie White.
Rayshard Brooks was shot and killed by an Atlanta police officer in the parking lot of that restaurant on Friday, June 12.
The restaurant was destroyed the following night, while demonstrators marched on University Avenue and other roadways nearby, including Interstate 75/85.
A $10,000 reward was issued for a masked individual last Sunday, who could be seen in a Twitter video pouring some sort of accelerant into the front of the Wendy’s building as it was burning.
According to Stafford, the investigation remains ongoing and additional arrests are possible.

The jaywalking arrest of two teenagers in Oklahoma has sparked an investigation after videos were released showing police aggressively detaining one of the teens before holding him to the ground as he pleads, “I can’t breathe.”
Police on Tuesday released bodycam footage from a Tulsa neighborhood on June 4 as police jump out of their patrol car to confront jaywalking suspects in a situation that quickly escalates.
While the first teen is apprehended, his friend can be heard saying, “Why are you choking him?”
“All he was doing was jaywalking,” one officer responds to the teen. “We just want to talk with him. Then he had to act a fool like that.”
The nearly 20-minute videos show an officer remaining on top of the teenager who lay on his stomach even after he was handcuffed.
The teen pleads with the officer to stop touching him, but the officer’s hands remain on the teen and he repeatedly pulls on his pants and grabs his legs and crotch.
The officers repeated to the teenagers that they broke the law because they jaywalked. Body camera videos show that the area had patchy or no visible sidewalks.
The teenager who was handcuffed first was forced into a police car as he yelled profanities at the officers. He called the officers “evil” and racist and said they arrested him because he’s black. He shouted, “Call my mama! Call my mama!”
“Because I’m black … I’m a criminal,” the teen yelled at one officer as they both physically struggled while the cop was putting the teen in the car. “Black lives matter!”
Body camera footage shows the other teen was let go.
Tulsa is the second-largest city in Oklahoma, with a population about 66 percent white and 16 percent black, according to US Census data.
It was not immediately known if the teens were issued a citation or formally charged. Messages and an email sent to the Tulsa Police Department weren’t returned Wednesday.
Greg Robinson, a community activist and organizer, told KJRH-TV that the police department will probably conclude that the officers were following protocol.
“And they probably were,” Robinson said. “But that’s the problem. Why do we need more enforcement when we don’t feel like the police are protecting us? We feel like they’re hunting us.”
Tulsa Mayor G.T. Bynum wrote in a Facebook post that he saw the footage of the teens’ arrest and that he’s working with the police department on the investigation.
“I want every kid in Tulsa to feel safe to walk down the street in their neighborhood,” he wrote. “No Tulsa kid should have to fear being tackled and cuffed for walking down the street.”
Tulsa police said the department released the body camera videos to be transparent but that it will not comment on the arrest because the Internal Affairs Unit is investigating.

]]>A Texas man who died in police custody after he was tased four times told deputies that he had heart issues and could not breathe.
Javier Ambler, who was black, died on March 28, 2019, following a 22-minute police chase that began in Williamson County around 1:30 a.m. and ended in north Austin, according to NBC affiliate KXAN in Austin. NBC News has not independently verified this report.
Williamson County deputies began chasing Ambler because he failed to dim his headlights for oncoming traffic, the outlet reported. The Austin Police Department also responded to the scene.
The A&E reality television show “Live PD” was filming sheriff’s deputies when the pursuit began.
Body-camera video from an Austin police officer shows Ambler on the ground with several officers. “Give me your hands or I’m going to tase you again,” an officer is heard saying in the video obtained by KXAN.
Ambler says, “I have congestive heart failure” and repeatedly says to the officers, “I can’t breathe.”
A death report said that Ambler died of congestive heart failure and hypertensive cardiovascular disease associated with morbid obesity, in combination with forcible restraint. The manner of death was ruled a homicide and the report stated that Ambler did not appear intoxicated, according to KXAN. NBC News has not independently verified the report that KXAN cites.
More than a year later, the death remains under investigation as the district attorney’s office accuses the Williamson County Sheriff’s Office of not cooperating.

In a series of tweets on Monday, Travis County District Attorney Margaret Moore said what should have been a routine traffic stop ended in Ambler’s death. She also accused the sheriff’s office of stonewalling the investigation.
“Over the last year, the District Attorney’s Office has been fighting with Williamson County Sheriff’s Office to have Live PD video footage related to Javier Ambler’s death released,” Moore tweeted.
The district attorney said initial findings show that Ambler told deputies of his heart defect and was not resisting arrest.
“Regardless, Williamson County deputies tased him four times before his death,” she wrote. “For the last year, Wilco has stonewalled our investigation. We planned to take this case before a grand jury in April, but bc of COVID-19 we’ll be empaneling this summer. We’re taking this case seriously & working to seek justice for Javier & his family.”
Austin Mayor Steve Adler said Monday that “somebody that is guilty of not dimming their headlights just shouldn’t end up getting a death sentence.”
The Austin Police Department could not immediately be reached on Tuesday, and a spokesperson for “Live PD” did not have a comment.
The Williamson County Sheriff’s Office said it could not comment on Ambler’s death and denied the attorney general’s claims that it is delaying the investigation.
“The Williamson County Sheriff’s Department remains ready and willing to participate in the investigation being conducted by the Travis County D.A.’s office,” a statement read. “However, the Travis County D.A. has not contacted us for any reason related to this investigation. Any attempt to say we have slowed or otherwise impeded the investigation is absolutely false.”
The sheriff’s office said Ambler hit several objects during the pursuit and crashed his car in Austin. Authorities said after exiting his vehicle Ambler did not comply with verbal commands, KXAN reported.
The Austin Statesman, citing an investigative report, said one of the sheriff’s deputies used his Taser after Ambler appeared to turn toward his car door. NBC News has not seen the report.
After Ambler fell to the ground, another deputy deployed his Taser, according to the outlet. Ambler was tased two more times during the arrest before becoming unresponsive.
In the body-camera video, he appears to be unresponsive for more than five minutes before help arrives. An officer tried to perform CPR before emergency medical services arrived. Ambler was pronounced dead at a hospital.
Jeff Edwards, an attorney for the family, said the incident did not have to end in Ambler’s death and the actions by the sheriff’s office “sickens me.”
“We can no longer tolerate this in our society,” he told KXAN. “Their conclusion was there’s nothing to see here, that’s reasonable.”

]]>Police in Australia have charged a man with murder for allegedly pushing a gay American man off a cliff 32 years ago.
The case was initially ruled a suicide, but will now be prosecuted as a hate crime.
New South Wales police found 27-year-old mathematician Scott Johnson’s naked body at the bottom of the cliff at Blue Fish Point in 1988.
Scott Phillip White, 49, who would have been a teenager at the time, was charged with the murder Tuesday, Cox Media Group reported, citing Australian media.
An inquest ruled Johnson’s death a suicide. A second inquest, in June 2012, returned an open finding.
Scott Johnson was 27 when he was killed in Australia in 1988.

However, a third inquest, in 2017, found that Johnson was likely pushed off the cliff by a homophobic attacker.

A 2018 police review of 88 suspicious deaths from 1976 to 2000 revealed that 27 gay men were likely murdered, according to The Associated Press.
In March, Johnson’s brother pledged to match a $1 million reward police posted in 2018 for information leading to an arrest.
“It’s emotional for me, emotional for my family, my two sisters and brother who loved Scott dearly, my wife and three kids who never got to know their uncle,” said Steve Johnson, of Boston.
