Having Received Word of Upcoming Weddings, Joint Information Center Reminds Everyone That Large Gatherings Outside the Home are Still Not Permitted<\/h3>\n<\/p><\/div>\n

From the Humboldt County Joint Information Center:

\nSince
\nMarch 20 of this year, in response to the COVID-19 pandemic and both
\nState and Local Health Officer Orders, gatherings of individuals
\noutside of the household unit have not been permitted. In spite of
\nthis, numerous individuals identifying themselves as invited wedding
\nguests have contacted the Humboldt County Sheriff\u2019s Office of
\nEmergency Services to voice their concerns about two ceremonies in
\nparticular scheduled for the next two weekends, one in Petrolia and
\none in Ferndale.<\/p>\n

\nThese
\nreports were received via the Joint Information Center\u2019s Community
\nInformation Line, with additional reports made through the COVID
\nCompliance Line. In response to both, and under the direction of the
\nEmergency Operations Center, code enforcement officers reached out to
\nfamily members to remind them that holding these gatherings is both
\nillegal and dangerous.<\/p>\n

\nAs
\nnoted by Humboldt County Health Officer Dr. Teresa Frankovich, \u201cWe
\nall understand the desire to celebrate occasions such as weddings
\nwith family and friends. However, just as high school seniors had to
\nsacrifice traditional graduation ceremonies, these types of large
\ngatherings simply cannot occur. We are in a pandemic and the
\npotential for not only a large number of guests to become infected
\nbut for these individuals to then expose many more people in our
\ncommunity, is enormous. There is simply no way for Public Health to
\nconduct timely contact investigations and limit disease spread when
\nhundreds of people are exposed at one time.\u201d<\/p>\n

\nLaw
\nenforcement is aware and will be reaching out to the individuals
\ninvolved, and enforcement action will be taken if these events
\nproceed. Frankovich added, \u201cI am hopeful that civic-minded
\nresidents of Humboldt will reconsider offering and attending such
\nevents until it is possible to hold them without violating the law
\nand endangering the safety of the guests and the residents of
\nHumboldt County.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote><\/div>\n
