13 cases identified at Lee’s Summit Pointe Health and Rehabilitation

The Jackson County Health Department noted on its website that there has been an outbreak of COVID-19 at Lee’s Summit Pointe Health and Rehabilitation.There are 13 patients with the virus at the facility, which is described as a skilled nursing home. The facility is located at 1501 Southwest Third Street in Lee’s Summit.Lee’s Summit Pointe Health and Rehabilitation said 11 of the residents have been isolated on site and two are recovering in the hospital. Two employees are recovering at home. The facility said all residents and employees have now been tested. The facility has been working closely with the Jackson County Health Department to contain the virus. “The health and safety of our residents and staff continue to be our highest priority,” said Craig Workman, spokesman for Lee’s Summit Pointe Health & Rehabilitation. “In early March we began screening all residents daily and all employees upon arrival at work for symptoms of COVID-19. Residents who showed signs of a fever, cough or other symptoms were tested. Any employees showing symptoms were sent home and referred to their primary care provider. We eliminated all outside visitors and non-essential interactions with the public at that time. We also stopped all group activities and closed our dining rooms to meet social distancing guidelines. Residents are encouraged to remain in their rooms and are now being screened at least twice daily for symptoms.”Health officials have been monitoring two other outbreaks at Oak Grove Nursing & Rehab, where 17 cases have been reported, and The Parkway Senior Living, where 18 cases have been identified.The Health Department said there have been six deaths related to COVID-19 from the outbreaks.
