Gov. Andrew Cuomo reveals details on reopening of youth sports

Gov. Andrew Cuomo on Sunday said some youth sports such as baseball could start up again in certain New York regions as soon as early next month.

He said “low-risk” athletics — baseball, softball, gymnastics, field hockey, cross country and crew — could resume starting July 6 in areas that are in Phase Three of the state’s reopening plan amid the coronavirus. Up to two spectators per child will be allowed at the events, Cuomo said.

New York City is in Phase One of reopening, while Long Island is in Phase Two. Some of the regions in the state in Phase Three are the Finger Lakes and upstate Southern Tier.
