Tucker Carlson reflected on the fragility of life Monday following\u00a0the death\u00a0of\u00a0Supreme Court Justice\u00a0Ruth Bader Ginsburg<\/a>, reminding viewers that “life is bigger\u00a0than politics, even this year.”<\/p>\n

The “Tucker Carlson Tonight<\/a>” host opened his show by commenting on\u00a0reports <\/a>that Ginsburg’s final wish was to not be replaced<\/a> until a new president was sworn into office, a sentiment he described as “pathetic” if true.<\/p>\n

SUPREME COURT JUSTICE RUTH BADER GINSBURG DEAD\u00a0AT 87<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n

“Keep in mind, we don’t know\u00a0actually what\u00a0Ruth Bader Ginsburg’s final\u00a0words were,” Carlson said. “Did she really leave this world\u00a0fretting about a presidential\u00a0election?<\/p>\n

“We don’t believe that for a\u00a0second,” he continued.\u00a0“If it\u00a0were true, it would be\u00a0pathetic because life is bigger\u00a0than politics, even this year.<\/p>\n

“We wouldn’t wish final words\u00a0like that on anyone,” Carlson added, “so we\u00a0choose to believe that\u00a0Ruth Bader Ginsburg didn’t\u00a0actually say that, but [rather] in real\u00a0life, she was thinking in the end\u00a0about her family and where she\u00a0might be going next. Human\u00a0concerns, not partisan ones.”<\/p>\n

Ginsburg’s death Friday ignited\u00a0a political\u00a0firestorm over whether a new Supreme Court justice should be nominated and confirmed before the November election. Trump plans to move forward with the nomination process and announce\u00a0his pick at the end of the week, as Democrats threaten to pack the high court in retaliation should they\u00a0win\u00a0the White House and Senate this fall. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., even declined to rule out impeaching Trump again\u00a0to block his choice for Ginsburg’s seat.<\/p>\n

Shortly after Ginsburg’s passing was announced,\u00a0NPR<\/a>\u00a0reported that she\u00a0told her granddaughter days earlier that her “most fervent wish is that I will not be replaced until a new president is installed.”<\/p>\n

“Ruth Bader Ginsburg doesn’t get\u00a0to pick her replacement from her\u00a0deathbed,” Carlson retorted.\u00a0“That’s not how it works.\u00a0We have a Constitution we are\u00a0supposed to be defending and\u00a0that’s the whole point of the\u00a0Constitution.<\/p>\n

“If Justice [Antonin] Scalia had said\u00a0something like that, no one\u00a0would have cared.\u00a0We would have been embarrassed\u00a0for him,” the host went on. “On some level, Democrats know\u00a0all this. All this talk about\u00a0Ginsburg’s dying wish is ridiculous and\u00a0insulting to all of us in our\u00a0country and they will stop soon.<\/p>\n
