said the authors of the research, published in the BMJ journal.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;However, the results of this study do not support its use in patients admitted to hospital with Covid-19 who require oxygen,&#8221; the authors added.<\/p>\n<p id=\"em-WBMZ30438-F24-EN-20200515\">\n                        <iframe loading=\"lazy\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen=\"\" frameborder=\"0\" height=\"270\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/hddIofxquqw?feature=oembed\" width=\"480\"><\/iframe>\n        <\/p>\n<p>A second study saw researchers in China split 150 Covid-19 patients into two groups, one of which received HCQ.<\/p>\n<p>After four weeks tests revealed similar rates of sustained infection among both groups, though adverse reactions to treatment were more common in the HCQ group.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Nor did the severity or duration of symptoms differ between each group.<\/p>\n<p>Neither trial was placebo-controlled, generally considered the gold standard for clinical data.<\/p>\n<p>Hydroxychloroquine has been used for decades to treat the autoimmune disorders lupus and rheumatoid arthritis, while its related compound chloroquine is used against malaria.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.france24.com\/en\/20200326-let-hospitals-decide-experts-warn-as-chloroquine-hype-triggers-rush-on-pharmacies\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>>>\u00a0\u2018Let hospitals decide,\u2019 experts warn, as chloroquine hype triggers rush on pharmacies<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>HCQ has been the subject of much debate in France, where \u201cmaverick\u201d Professor Didier Raoult claimed to have successfully treated Covid-19 patients using a combination of hydroxychloroquine and azithromycin.<\/p>\n<p>However, doctors have questioned the value of Professor Raoult\u2019s study, saying it was poorly designed and based on too small a sample to offer hard evidence of benefit.<\/p>\n<p>Last month the European Medicines Agency warned that there was no indication HCQ could treat Covid-19 and said some studies had seen serious and sometimes fatal heart problems in patients.<\/p>\n<p><em>(FRANCE 24 with AFP)<\/em><\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/article>\n<section>\n<\/section><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.france24.com\/en\/20200515-studies-see-no-benefit-in-hydroxychloroquine-treatment-for-covid-19-patients\" class=\"button purchase\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">Read More<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>\/ Business Issued on: 15\/05\/2020 &#8211;
