Here are updates about coronavirus cases in Brevard, according to the Florida Department of Health, as of June 23, 2020.

Brevard registered 40 new cases for a total of 918 since the pandemic began, according to Tuesday morning’s Florida Department of Health dashboard. Of the cases, 906 are residents and 12 non-residents.

There was one new death, an 82-year-old female who had contact with a confirmed COVID-19 case. The woman’s case was not travel-related, and it was counted June 11.

In total, Brevard has lost 17 people, including five in June, to the coronavirus. Victims ranged in age from 63 to 94. Here are the ages and gender of those who died of COVID-19 in Brevard, according to FDOH data:

• two 73-year-old females

• 74-year-old male

• 76-year-old female

• 77-year-old female

• two 79-year-old males

• 80-year-old female

• 83-year-old female

• 84-year-old male

• 91-year-old female

• 94-year-old male

• 71-year-old female

• 64-year-old female

• 63-year-old male

• 91-year-old male

• 82-year-old female

The FDOH site was experiencing issues Tuesday morning, with messages like “not fully configured” under case totals and hospitalization data. Also, the FDOH state report noted three more cases and one less death than the FDOH dashboard.

“As of 8 a.m. Monday, Brevard has 18 COVID-19 patients hospitalized and four of them are on ventilators,” Brevard County Commissioner Curt Smith said. “Positivity rate has declined to 3.9%. There are 28 new cases down from 33 on Sunday (June 21).”

The FDOH dashboard showed Brevard had registered 95 hospitalizations since the pandemic began. It is important to note that number is cumulative and doesn’t reflect the current number of people currently in the hospital.

The age of those affected range from 0 to 99 and the median age affected in Brevard is 42. Statewide, that number is 43.

As of Tuesday, in Brevard, 435 males were diagnosed with COVID-19 and 470 females.

The FDOH dashboard showed Brevard tested 35,500 people with 918 positive and 34,580 negative since the pandemic began. The percentage rate of those positive was 2.6%.

The highest single-day spike in cases was June 20 with 69 cases.

Florida surpassed 100,000 cases Monday. As of Tuesday, the state report lists 103,506 have tested positive while the FDOH dashboard showed 103,503, a jump of 3,289 or 3,289 cases from the previous day. According to the state report, of those, 101,306 are residents and 2,200 are nonresidents. In its state PDF report, FDOH listed 13,318 hospitalizations since the pandemic began, with the death total at 3,237, 64 more deaths than the previous day. The FDOH dashboard, however, showed 13,325 hospitalizations and 3,238 deaths.

Overall, FDOH dashboard shows 1,641,838 have been tested; 103,503 were positive and 1,537,249 tested negative for the coronavirus. The overall percent positive rate increased to 6.3%.

Total cases in the U.S. as of Tuesday was 2,325,970; globally that number was 9,154,232. Total deaths in the U.S. as of Tuesday was 120,771; globally that number was 473,650.
