The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention on Friday said the current salmonella newport outbreak is growing, with increased cases and more states reporting infections.<\/p>\n

There are now 212 cases across 23 states, up from 15 states. In Michigan, according to a CDC news release, there are three more cases for a total of 15.<\/p>\n

So far, those who have become ill\u00a0range in age from 0 to 92 years. The median age is 40 and more than half of those infected are female. Thirty-one\u00a0people have been hospitalized. No deaths have been reported.<\/p>\n

A source of the outbreak,\u00a0the CDC announced in an update, is still unknown.\u00a0Though it’s typically from food, no specific food, grocery store, or restaurant has been linked to the outbreak.<\/p>\n

But past outbreaks of salmonella newport, the CDC said, have been linked to produce, meat and dairy products.<\/p>\n
