The stepmother of the Atlanta<\/a> police officer who fatally shot Rayshard Brooks<\/a> was fired from her job as human resources director at an Atlanta-based mortgage company for allegedly violating company policy and creating an uncomfortable working environment for fellow employees. <\/p>\n

JUDGE NAP: MURDER CHARGE MAJOR MISTAKE<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n

Melissa Rolfe, the stepmother of former Atlanta police officer Garrett Rolfe, \u201clost the confidence of her peers, leadership, and many employees who no longer felt comfortable engaging with her,\u201d a statement from Equity Prime Mortgage\u00a0said.<\/p>\n

The company said it values \u201cdiversity of thought\u201d but \u201cwhen those views create a hostile working environment, we must make difficult decisions and part ways.\u201d<\/p>\n

Her 27-year-old son was charged with felony murder after\u00a0shooting Brooks in a Wendy\u2019s parking lot last week. Prosecutors said Brooks was no threat to Rolfe and a fellow\u00a0responding officer, despite wrestling a Taser from them and fleeing. Rolfe\u2019s attorney told Fox News earlier this week that the claim that Brooks was running from the cops is untrue. <\/p>\n

\u201cMr. Brooks turned and offered extreme violence toward a uniformed law enforcement officer. If he was able to deploy the Taser,\u00a0 it would\u00a0incapacitate Officer Rolfe through his body armor, and at that point,\u00a0 if\u00a0 he decided to disarm another officer, he would be in possession of a firearm.\u201d<\/p>\n

It was not immediately clear what exactly Melissa Rolfe said or did to warrant the termination, but she has referred to her son\u2019s case as \u201cnonsense\u201d in a\u00a0 social media post backing a Georgia congressional candidate.<\/p>\n

The Washington Examiner, using a Wayback Machine, reported that the woman last appeared on the company\u2019s leadership page in May. She is married with three grown sons and a grandson, according to her description. <\/p>\n

The shooting sparked new unrest in the city\u00a0still reeling from protests over the death of George Floyd in police custody in Minneapolis. Protesters said the shooting is another example of how the African-American community is targeted by police.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
