Reopening Disney World, SeaWorld

Orange County Mayor Jerry Demings said Walt Disney World and SeaWorld will virtually present their reopening plans to the county’s Economic Recovery Task Force on Wednesday morning.

The meeting will begin at 10 a.m. and run until noon.

The presentations will include the theme park operators’ proposed reopening dates.

A team of Orange County and Florida Department of Health inspectors visited the theme parks Tuesday to determine if the operators were in compliance with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s guidelines and Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis’ executive orders.

For the parks to reopen, Demings must endorse their reopening plans and DeSantis must approve them.

Demings said Tuesday that he expects the parks’ reopening plans to be similar to those of the Universal Orlando Resort, which have already been approved by DeSantis.

He said safety protocols include signage in multiple languages.

Universal will reopen its parks June 5, but some pass holders told Channel 9 that they have received invitations to visit the park June 3 and June 4. Click here to read more about that.

So far, 39 people infected with COVID-19 in Orange County have died, but 80% of those in the county who have tested positive for the virus have fully recovered.

There remain 320 active cases of the virus in the county.

7 new deaths, 509 new cases in Florida

Health officials reported seven new coronavirus-related deaths and 509 new cases of the virus statewide since Monday.

The total number of cases in the state is now at 52,255, with deaths at 2,259.

One of the new deaths was reported in Polk County.

Free PPE to be offered at Orange Technical College – Mid Florida Campus

Residents can pick up free personal protective equipment later in the week at Orange Technical College – Mid Florida Campus.

Appointments are mandatory from Tuesday through Thursday to receive the PPE.

Florida nears 52,000 cases of COVID-19

Health officials reported 879 new cases of COVID-19 throughout Florida and 15 new coronavirus-related deaths.

The total number of cases in the state is now at 51,746, with deaths at 2,252. One of the new deaths was reported in Brevard County.
