]]>A coalition of retired law enforcement officers has banded together and formed the Protect Our Police PAC to support pro-cop candidates running for elections.
Philadelphia-based Protect Our Police PAC, otherwise known as POP PAC, launched Wednesday and is raising funds to put toward endorsed “pro-police candidates” and “independent expenditures for paid communication programs and media plans,” the group announced in a press release.
“As spineless elected officials turn their backs on cops, POP PAC will elect law & order candidates in their place,” the release states.
THIS COMPANY IS DARING TO DEFEND POLICE AMID CANCEL CULTURE
The announcement references the anti-police rhetoric, protests and calls for departments to be defunded in the wake of the May 25 death of George Floyd in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Floyd, a Black man, died after a white police officer held his knee on his neck for nearly nine minutes – despite Floyd saying 17 times that he couldn’t breathe. Protests soon erupted nationwide.
Tensions between police and some members of the public were running high even before Floyd’s death, after Louisville, Ky., police shot Breonna Taylor, a Black emergency medical technician, to death in March while executing a no-knock search warrant.
The POP PAC press release describes how it will be “the largest organization exclusively committed to providing the resources needed to elect candidates who will support our police officers, law enforcement and first responders while in office.”

“POP PAC will build the largest coalition of pro-police groups, organizations, unions and lodges in the country to fight to protect our police on the front line who selflessly risk their lives every day,” the release further states. “POP PAC will also promote pro-police stories often ignored by the mainstream media.”
POP PAC has already received contributions from Philadelphia Fraternal Order of Police Lodge #5 and is encouraging candidates to apply for endorsement through its candidate recruitment program.

The PAC’s board consists of four retired Philadelphia police officers, who each boast between 12 and 20 years. Its website describes how police are “under attack.”
“Radical anarchists, spineless left-wing politicians and the mainstream media are doing everything in their power to defund the Police and dismantle the systems of law and order that keep us all safe,” the site states. “It’s time WE fight back and show our Police that we have their backs by electing leaders who will always BACK THE BLUE!”

A retired Wisconsin Air National Guard colonel is clarifying controversial comments she made about slain Fort Hood soldier Vanessa Guillen, saying she didn’t mean to imply that sexual harassment is the “price of admission” for women in the military.
Betsy Schoeller, who is also a senior lecturer at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, issued a statement Sunday offering her condolences to Guillen’s relatives and “all victims” sexual assault and harassment.
But Schoeller insisted she didn’t “mean to imply” she believed that sexual harassment comes with the territory for women in the military and “if you’re going to cry like a snowflake about it, you’re gonna pay the price” – as she posted days earlier on a private Facebook page for veterans.
“I did not mean to imply that this is how I feel,” Schoeller said Sunday. “I was giving voice to the messaging that women hear in the culture of sexual harassment: The message we received from the culture is not only will you suffer from sexual harassment, if you squawk about it, you will suffer even more.”
A petition calling for Schoeller to be fired from her job at the university’s School of Information Studies has eclipsed more than 131,000 signatures as of early Monday.
University officials, meanwhile, denounced her remarks in a statement Saturday but said it could not regulate the private speech of its employees. She has worked as the school for 23 years, the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel reported.
Schoeller, who retired as a colonel from the Wisconsin National Guard in 2017, told the newspaper she was sexually harassed while serving in the military. Schoeller thought her remarks about Guillen on Facebook were private, she said.
“When you look at my comment, I was not talking about one person specifically,” Schoeller said. “I was only voicing that message that we get as women. Being called names. Being called ‘sissy’ and any derogatory term you can think of.”
Schoeller said she hopes her statement issued Sunday clarifies her original post, which she insists was “misinterpreted.”
“I hope this message provides the context that was missing from my original Facebook posting,” the statement read. “Individuals cannot change the system alone. We need to stand together to be strong and to focus our energies on making sure that what happened to SPC Vanessa Guillen doesn’t happen to anyone else ever again.”
Human remains found in a shallow grave in Texas last week have been identified as Guillen, an attorney for her family said Sunday.
Guillen, 20, was last seen on April 22 at Fort Hood, where she was based. Federal and military investigators believe she was killed and dismembered by fellow soldier Aaron David Robinson, 20, who took his own life last week as police tried to contact him.
Prior to her disappearance, Guillen’s relatives said she told them she was being sexually harassed by one of her sergeants at Fort Hood, the Journal-Sentinel reported. But Army investigations have said there’s no evidence to back up those allegations.

]]>Retired Navy SEAL Jocko Willink appeared on “Fox & Friends” Monday to explain how Americans should commemorate the nation’s fallen heroes on Memorial Day.
“[I want to] remind people that the soldier, sailor, airman or Marine that we talk about in kind of abstract terms, I want people to remember that these are human beings, that these are people with families, hopes and dreams and that they sacrificed everything that they have so that we can have freedom,” said Willink, host of the “Jocko Podcast.”
Willink, who served 20 years in the U.S. military and led the most highly decorated U.S. special operations unit of the Iraq war, said that during this holiday his mind is on the comrades that he lost in battle.
“I think not only of them but of the soldiers and Marines that we served alongside who were making sacrifices every day and we’re here 15 years later and we’re living an incredible life and have these opportunities every day and I’ll never forget that the opportunities that we have now are because of those who laid down their life for us.”
Willink narrated and wrote a video for Prager U to give tribute to those who served the country.
Meanwhile, President Trump will mark Memorial Day with appearances at Arlington National Cemetery and Baltimore’s historic Fort McHenry, honoring fallen military members while also sending a clear signal to the country that his agenda will be business-as-almost-usual amid the coronavirus pandemic.
After two months of lockdowns in many states, Trump has sought to put a priority on reopening the economy while continuing to abide by Centers for Disease Control and Prevention guidelines.
Unofficially, the Memorial Day weekend has marked the start, or at least an acceleration, of that experiment in parts of the country – with many families heading to the beach and states pressing forward with loosening restrictions.

Willink told host and fellow veteran Pete Hegseth that Americans should always remember the men and women who gave their lives, but not be “somber” as they enjoy Memorial Day with friends and family.
“I know that my friends that gave their lives, they wouldn’t want me to have a somber day. … They want me to enjoy this great country that they made such a sacrifice for.”
