]]>Senator John Cornyn, R – Texas, soon will introduce a bill to make Juneteenth a federal holiday.
President Donald J. Trump should hold a prime-time speech from either the Oval Office, on his own, or in the East Room, with an audience, and call for this bill’s passage, with overwhelming bipartisan support, so that he can sign it on July 4.
Juneteenth commemorates June 19, 1865, when Union Army soldiers reached Galveston, Texas and read General Order No. 3 to people who had been property: “All slaves are free.” For them and all former slaves, a bright, bright sunshiny day had arrived.

“It took two and a half years for the slaves in the south to learn that they were free,” said Senator Cornyn. “And that day came on a day we now celebrate as Juneteenth.” Cornyn, the Senate’s second-highest-ranking Republican, has recognized Juneteenth with resolutions in that chamber since 2011.
“Juneteenth reminds us of both the unimaginable injustice of slavery and the incomparable joy that must have attended emancipation,” Trump said in a Presidential Message this morning. ”It is both a remembrance of a blight on our history and a celebration of our Nation’s unsurpassed ability to triumph over darkness.”
The president of the United States added: “This Juneteenth, we commit, as one Nation, to live true to our highest ideals and to build always toward a freer, stronger country that values the dignity and boundless potential of all Americans.”
Enacting a Juneteenth federal holiday over the next fortnight would be a significant act of national unity at a time when the United States is being torn to pieces amid claims that America is systemically racist, institutionally bigoted, and that “Nothing has changed!” since the days of Jim Crow, as one street protester recently screamed.
ALVEDA KING: CELEBRATING JUNETEENTH – UNITE AMERICANS BY MAKING IT A NATIONAL HOLIDAY
A Juneteenth holiday would focus on both sides of this American reality: the sin of slavery, which cursed this country and tortured blacks until 1865 and the freedom that they gained under the Emancipation Proclamation and the Union Army’s defeat of the Confederacy. — That was the beginning of liberty that blacks began to enjoy across America, and with which they contributed mightily to this nation.
An inadequately light sketch of this rich portrait would stretch from Booker T. Washington’s “Up from Slavery” and his creation of the Tuskegee Institute to Madam C.J. Walker, America’s first female millionaire, who made her fortune selling hair care products to fellow blacks (as dramatized in the new Netflix limited series “Self-Made,” starring Academy Award winner Octavia Spencer).
This outline would include Louis Armstrong and Duke Ellington. They co-fathered jazz, to the accompaniment of W.C. Handy, Sidney Bechet, Ella Fitzgerald, and other pioneers of that all-American musical genre, many (but surely not all) of them black.
The Tuskegee Airmen helped defeat fascism from above in World War II, thus bombing to smithereens the racist claims that blacks lacked the brains to fly planes, especially military aircraft.
Jackie Robinson integrated baseball, Sidney Poitier ignited the Silver Screen, Berry Gordy incorporated Motown, and Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s powerfully expressed Dream inspired Americans, culminating in the Civil Rights Act and Voting Rights Act.
And much, much, much more.
The steady stream of black gifts to America, which flowed from the liberty that blacks secured on Juneteenth, is what this new holiday would honor.
“Though American blacks are free, some still believe institutional racism hinders our ability to thrive,” said Derryck Green, a fellow member of the conservative Project 21 Black Leadership Network. “We should flatly reject such hopelessness.”
Enacting a Juneteenth national holiday also would provide powerful evidence of the Republican Party’s historical and ongoing advancement of black Americans.
Abraham Lincoln signed the Emancipation Proclamation in 1863. Chief Justice Earl Warren, former Republican governor of California, wrote the landmark 1954 Brown v. Board of Education decision, which took the first swing at Jim Crow and turbocharged the Civil Rights Movement.
Senator Everett Dirksen, R – Illinois, broke the filibuster, led by former Ku Klux Klan recruiter and Exalted Cyclops in the KKK Robert Byrd, D – West Virginia, which allowed the Civil Rights Act of 1964 to pass the Senate and reach Democrat President Lyndon Johnson’s desk for signature.
President Ronald Reagan signed legislation in 1983 to create the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. National Holiday.
Reagan also appointed Colin Powell as America’s first black National Security Adviser in 1988, before he became this republic’s first black secretary of state under GOP President George W. Bush.

By signing a Juneteenth national holiday into law, President Donald J. Trump would join this long and distinguished list of Republican friends of black Americans and, one hopes, irreversibly derail the left’s freight train of lies that he is an anti-black bigot.

President Trump’s signing this national holiday into law on July 4 would unite American independence and black American liberty. Imagine the president, his Cabinet, the entire Congress, from both parties and all ethnic backgrounds, applauding this development, in unison, on the White House lawn. They could begin by singing “The Star-Spangled Banner” and conclude by holding hands and singing “We Shall Overcome.”
Such heartwarming sounds and images finally would put this calamitous June in the rear-view mirror and shine headlights of love and beauty into the second half of 2020 and far, far down the road ahead.

I thought this some months ago, and soon heard St. Louis radio host Annie Frey second that emotion on KFTK-FM. Donald Trump, Jr. also has echoed this phrase.
BIDEN TO ACCEPT DEMOCRATIC NOMINATION IN PERSON AT SCALED-BACK CONVENTION
Rather than merely mention them in passing, these words should be emblazoned on banners and hats and expressed by the president, his surrogates, and supporters.
The existing slogan, Keep America Great, is irrelevant, if not flippant and callous, given this nation’s current condition. Plenty remains great about America. But everybody knows she’s wounded in many ways.

Keep America Great was a thoroughly dreadful slogan, even when things sparkled, as late as early March. Rather than an optimistic call to build a more perfect union, KAG was a self-congratulatory celebration of stasis. Message: “This is as great as America ever will be. So, let’s stay right here and tread water together.”

Make America Even Greater, which the campaign should have adopted, would have expressed these aspirations: “President Trump kept his promise to Make America Great Again. But there is much to do through 2024. So, let’s re-elect him and get even busier.”
While Make America Even Greater is inspiring, Keep America Great challenges citizens to sit gently on our laurels for four more years. The inherently defective KAG is now Marie Antoinette-level detached from today’s painful realities.
America has been tempest-tossed by COVID-19, three-months of national house arrest, and an economic implosion.
Just as these storms abated, fresh tornadoes roared in: George Floyd’s atrocious death beneath former Officer Derek Chauvin’s knee, mass protests, riots, looting, arson, and a national nervous breakdown over race.
This has involved attacks on churches, Confederate statues, monuments to Lincoln and other abolitionists, and the assassination of Aunt Jemima — which surely will send black test scores and graduation rates skyward.
Thus, it’s tragic, but hardly shocking, that only 63 percent of adults now feel extremely/very proud to be American — the lowest such response since Gallup first asked in 2001.
So, starting Saturday, Trump-Pence 2020 should fight to reverse all of this, with the battle cry: Make America Great Again, Again!
MAGAA recognizes that 2020’s skull-splitting migraines have left many things worse than when Trump arrived to cure eight years of Obama-Biden’s domestic stagnation, racial tension, and global humiliation (e.g. Benghazi, ISIS, U.S.-financed ayatollahs taking Navy sailors hostage, on their knees; atomic bombs exploding beneath North Korea, Chinese trade cheating, and much more).
Stocks, employment, retail sales, and home-building permits are escaping the dungeons in which they quarantined.
But ample work remains.
How will Trump and Republicans make American great again, again? Through their policies that thrived until the Chinese-Communist virus invaded on January 22.
Before the COVID catastrophe, Americans savored the best economy in 50 years, thanks to personal and business tax relief, robust deregulation, an energy renaissance, modernized trade deals, constitutionalist jurisprudence, and a pro-enterprise tone in Washington.
Today, as with low-interest rates and cheaper energy, the existing Trump/GOP reforms will help.

Better yet, bolster them: The temporary Republican tax reductions, such as full, immediate expensing of commercial-equipment purchases, should become permanent.
Why not a retroactive payroll-tax holiday for 2020? Making business meals tax-deductible again will fill empty restaurants.
Lower taxes yield faster growth. Keep cutting.
Conversely, Bidenism will re-crater the economy. Biden’s mumbled demands for higher taxes, brighter-red tape, weaker borders, and stricter socialized medicine will stuff a My Pillow over the face of a recovering Uncle Sam.
MAGAA also must unify the country around improved, more effective, increasingly respectful law enforcement: Fight serious crime. Don’t send SWAT teams and frogmen to stage flamboyant white-collar arrests, a la Roger Stone.
No more reckless no-knock warrants, as when three Louisville policemen used a battering ram to enter the apartment of EMT Breonna Taylor, 26. Her boyfriend mistook cops for criminals and opened fire. The officers shot back, killing Taylor. Maddeningly, the drug dealers whom police sought lived 10 miles away. Oops.)
Repealing stupid laws that, for instance, prohibit single-cigarette sales or orderly, outdoor alcohol consumption (quintessential to New Orleans; new to New York) also will reduce police-civilian interactions that could go haywire.

Trump’s school-choice reforms, permanent funding of Historically Black Colleges and Universities, creation of 8,760 Opportunity Zones to energize low-income communities, and stronger incentives for minority entrepreneurship all will address the nation’s hunger for black advancement and brighter days in America’s most underserved neighborhoods.
In short, re-electing President Donald J. Trump will Make America Great Again, Again.

]]>The looting and riots that roared out of the George Floyd protests were surprising. The left’s celebration of this violence is shocking.
What follows are not the reckless rants of basement-dwelling, boxer-short-clad, baby Bolsheviks. Rather these are the words and actions of elected and appointed Democratic officials, top activists, and their comrades in the liberal establishment media.
These leading leftists encouraged, enabled and empowered people who decided to riot after they saw four Minneapolis cops go low as one officer knelt on Floyd’s neck for nearly nine minutes and killed him on Memorial Day, while the other cops did nothing to stop the killing. All four now-fired officers face charges of second-degree murder or aiding and abetting second-degree murder.
HUNDREDS MOURN DAVID DORN, RETIRED ST. LOUIS POLICE CAPTAIN KILLED IN LOOTING
“A once in a lifetime opportunity,” is how Democratic Massachusetts Attorney General Maura Healey described the subsequent rioting. “Yes, America is burning, but that’s how forests grow.”

Rep. Maxine Waters, D-Calif., seemed unconcerned about store shelves being vacuumed by marauders nationwide. “Young people, they have a whole new definition for ‘looting,” Waters said. “They say ‘looting’ is predatory lending in, you know, minority neighborhoods, where they’re paying 300 and 400 percent on loans by these payday lenders.” So, the chairwoman of the House Financial Service Committee believes that the real villains are not retail thieves but those who finance black and Hispanic loan applicants.
Two days after looters devoured local stores, Democratic Seattle City Council member Teresa Mosqueda said: “Colleagues, I hope we’re all saying we understand why that destruction happened and we understand why people are upset.”
“But what I don’t want to hear is for our constituents to be told to be civil, not to be reactionary, to be told looting doesn’t solve anything,” said Mosqueda’s socialist colleague Tammy Morales. “It does make me wonder why looting bothers people so much more than knowing that across the country, black people are being killed.”
Salmah Rizvi, Esq., a former intelligence official with Obama’s Departments of State and Defense, bailed out Orooj Rahman, Esq. The New York City Police Department arrested Rahman on June 2 for allegedly hurling an ignited Molotov cocktail into a police vehicle. Rahman allegedly distributed Molotov cocktails to Floyd-related demonstrators in Brooklyn on May 30. The U.S. Attorney’s Office presented a photograph allegedly showing Rahman holding a Bud Light bottle rigged into an incendiary device.
“We don’t believe this is the time to be releasing a bomb-thrower like the defendant into the community,” said prosecutor Ian Richardson.
“Urooj Rahman is my best friend, and I am an associate at the law firm Ropes & Gray in Washington, D.C.,” Rizvi told U.S. District Court Judge Margo Brodie. “I earn $255,000 a year.” Obama’s Presidential Daily Briefs reportedly included Rizvi’s analysis.
Judge Brodie heeded Obama’s former adviser and, on $250,000 bond, sprang the alleged gasoline-bomb thrower.
At least 13 Biden campaign employees donated to the Minnesota Freedom Fund, which paid cash bail for protesters and rioters arrested during the recent unpleasantness. Trump 2020’s Tim Murtaugh responded: “The city is burning & Biden staff are funding it.”
“Burn It All Down,” an Essence headline insisted. Yesha Callahan cited George Floyd, other unarmed blacks killed by cops, and the “insurmountable rate” of black COVID-19 fatalities. “Until these things disgust you, we riot, we protest and do whatever it takes to get your attention – including burning it all down.”
In The New York Times – the so-called “Paper of Record” – reporter Nikole Hannah-Jones argued that “destroying property, which can be replaced, is not violence.” Does that include this Pulitzer Prize winner’s windows? Her home?
“Please, show me where it says that protests are supposed to be polite and peaceful,” CNN’s Chris Cuomo demanded. Did Cuomo flunk high school civics? The First Amendment guarantees “the right of the people peaceably to assemble.”(Italics added).
“Riots are, at their core, a choice made by those in power, not people who participate in them,” The Atlantic’s Amanda Mull said via Twitter. “If you build a society that exhausts and abuses people and privilege [sic] capital over human life, I’m not sure which other imaginary ‘civil’ options you expect people to exercise.”
•“Burn that s— down. Burn it all down,” ESPN alumnus and NBA analyst Chris Palmer cheered via Twitter on May 29, above a photo of 189 affordable-housing units that were under construction until Minneapolis rioters incinerated them.
But rather than a revolutionary, Palmer echoed landed gentry when rioters reached his California home.
“They just attacked our sister community down the street,” Palmer ranted via Twitter on May 31. “It’s a gated community and they tried to climb the gates. They had to beat them back. Then destroyed a Starbucks and are now in front of my building. Get these animals TF out of my neighborhood. Go back to where you live.”
After learning that walls work and expressing the Palmer Principle (trespassers should “go back to where you live”), Palmer wagged his finger at his visitors, saying: “Tear up your owns—. Don’t come to where we live at and tear our neighborhood up. We care about our community. If you don’t care about yours I don’t give a s—.”
On June 1, BuzzFeed’s Ajani Bazile published “19 Tips For Anyone Who Plans On Protesting.” “Bring enough cash for food, transportation, or other necessities,” Bazile recommended. “Bring snacks and water to keep your energy up.”

Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and Mahatma Gandhi would concur. They exemplified the power of non-violent protest, which Gandhi called Satyagraha.
But King and Gandhi might wonder why peaceful demonstrators, as Bazile suggests, would “Wear clothing that covers tattoos, discernible scars, and birth marks that could be used to identify you.” Suspiciously, he also counseled: “If you are worried about the possibility of being tracked by law enforcement, don’t post on social media while you’re there, turn off Face/Touch ID on your phone, or bring a burner phone.”
These comments leave these leftists in a moral landfill. More dangerous: how some respond.

“When you tell people their violence is righteous, you engage in what is called moral licensing,” National Review’s Zaid Jilani observed. “People start to think, not only does what I’m doing feel good, but it is even improving the world around me – even as it demonstrably does the opposite.”

The difference in efforts to protect seniors from the coronavirus pandemic between New York State Democratic Gov. Andrew Cuomo and Florida State Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis is “very sad,” Fox News contributor Deroy Murdock stated Saturday.
Appearing on “Fox & Friends Weekend” with host Pete Hegseth, Murdock explained that Cuomo’s ineffectuality in protecting his most vulnerable population was mainly due to a poor order to state health officials.

In late March, Cuomo announced that nursing homes were required to accept COVID-19 positive patients once they were discharged after becoming more medically stable. In addition, according to Murdock, those patients were not required to be tested following their release.
“As a result, a lot of these folks went back to nursing homes people got sick — nursing homes which had not been touched by COVID-19 suddenly became hotbeds of COVID-19 — and unfortunately a lot of seniors in nursing homes started dying in huge numbers,” Murdock remarked. “The death toll right now is about 5,300 [or] something like that.”
Additionally, nursing home directors have reported they’ve begged the state for more protective equipment and tests as well as help in relocating positive patients, but pleas have gone unanswered. All of this comes as the number of workers who called out sick steadily rose.
Cuomo has since amended his policy, adding a directive telling hospitals that they must test patients and patients must be negative before being returned to nursing homes. He is also now requiring nursing homes to test staff twice weekly.
While more than 5,000 seniors have passed away at nursing homes across the Empire State, the virus has made its way into 7,500 long-term care facilities nationwide. All over the country, more than 143,000 of their residents and workers have contracted the illness and more than 25,600 have died, according to a New York Times analysis. That number accounts for more than a third of the deaths from the pandemic which is now at a total of almost 86,000 people.
According to Murdock, Florida approached the nursing home crisis in the right way.
“They sent people to make sure the nursing homes had all of the equipment they needed. They gave them additional training on how to avoid infections, And, the result so far has been about 665 folks, seniors dead in nursing homes in Florida,” he remarked.
“The death rate in Florida is about three per 100,000. In New York state it’s 27.5 per 100,000. So, [that’s] nine times worse,” he added. “Absolutely tragic [and] totally, totally unnecessary!”
As New York Republicans call for an inquiry into Cuomo’s handling of the situation, Murdock told Hegseth that the media needs to do more to hold Cuomo to account for those lost in the shuffle.

“And, it would be one thing if all of the other hospitals were full. But, we have the Javits Center about one-third empty. We had the USNS Comfort — the hospital ship that President Trump set up here – that had 182 beds filled out of a thousand,” he continued. “So, it’s not like there weren’t alternatives to send people where they could go and be isolated and not get healthy seniors infected and ultimately killed.
“Andrew Cuomo really needs to be held to account on this and I wish the media would do it.
“I’m hearing a little bit of criticism here in New York, but I don’t hear much nationwide.”
