]]>The Senate Republican report this week on Hunter Biden shows he amassed a network of shady foreign clients who pumped millions of dollars into his bank accounts — all while his dad, Joseph R. Biden, served as vice president.
The report traced the bank transfers based on U.S. government reports that “show potential criminal activity” by Mr. Biden, other family members, and business partners. The report’s phrasing is a sure indicator that Hunter Biden and his associates showed up by name in confidential Suspicious Activity Reports (SARS) issued by the Treasury Department.
In one instance, after Hunter Biden transferred nearly $2 million to his uncle––the money ultimately connected to Chinese businessmen––the bank inquired about the large amount. It then closed the account when the Bidens were not forthcoming, the Senate report said.
Hunter Biden’s financial sources: a Russian oligarch; a Ukraine oligarch; a Kazakhstan holding company and Chinese businessmen tied to the Communist Party and People’s Liberation Army (PLA).
Meanwhile, Hunter Biden, who has fought drug addiction, sent thousands of dollars to Russian and Ukraine women tied to human trafficking and prostitution, the report said.
The findings prompted the report’s authors, Senate Finance Committee Chairman Charles Grassley, Iowa Republican, and Senate Homeland Security and Government Affairs Committee Chairman Ron Johnson, Wisconsin Republican, to state,
“In particular, these documents show that Hunter Biden received millions of dollars from foreign sources as a result of business relationships that he built during the period when his father was vice president of the United States and after. These foreign nationals have questionable backgrounds that have been identified as being consistent with a range of criminal activities, including but not limited to organized prostitution and/or human trafficking, money laundering, fraud, and embezzlement.”
The two senators bluntly stated that Biden the son “cashed in on Joe Biden’s vice presidency.” The vice president is the Democratic presidential nominee challenging President Trump.
Here are Mr. Biden’s major sources of big money, according to the senate report.
The Ukraine energy firm Burisma Holdings and its oligarch boss, Mykola Zlochevsky.
The State Department views Mr. Zlochevsky as one of the most corrupt men in Ukraine. He paid a $25 million bribe to the public prosecutor investigating his alleged money laundering, the Senate report said.
In April 2014, Vice President Biden became the Obama administration’s point man on Ukraine. His mission: convince the former Soviet state to tamp down rampant corruption.
The next month, Hunter Biden showed up on Burisma’s board of directors. He joined his business partner Devon Archer.
In the ensuing years, Burisma paid the two over $4 million. From May 2014, to February 2016, 48 wire transfers totalling $3.4 million went to Rosemont Seneca Bohai, a shell company run by Mr. Archer in partnership with a Chinese investment fund.
In 2014-15, Rosemont sent $700,000 to Hunter Biden. After Mr. Archer was arrested for alleged financial fraud in 2016, Burisma directly sent $752,000 to Mr. Biden’s law firm.
Russia’s only women billionaire, Elena Baturina, wired Mr. Biden $3.5 million for consulting services in February 2014, the same month Russian troops invaded Ukraine’s Crimea. She sent another $241,000 in 2015.
Ms. Baturina is the widow of a corrupt Moscow mayor, Yuri Luzhkov. She became an oligarch thanks to her husband’s administration funneling huge contracts to her plastics company, Intake.
As an oligarch, Ms. Baturina would have close ties to Russian President Vladimir Putin. She wired the money to Rosemont Seneca Thornton LLC, co-founded by Hunter Biden.
Another Biden firm was Rosemont Seneca Partners, which included Mr. Archer and Christopher Heinz, stepson to former Sen. John Kerry, Massachusetts Democrat.
Treasury reported these bank transfers, the Senate report said, “because of Baturina’s reported criminal activity.”
On the day in 2014 that Vice President Biden addressed the Ukraine parliament as the new Obama administration point man, Novatus Holding, a private company in Singapore, used a Latvian bank to wire $142,300 to Rosemont Seneca Bohai. The transaction report said “for Rosemont Seneca Bohai LLC for a car.”
The sole shareholder of Novatus is Kenges Rakishev who has ties to Kazakhstan’s power elite. He sent the money to Hunter Biden’s partner at a time when the country was debating whether to approve of Russian’s invasion of Crimea that February.
Mr. Biden gleaned millions of dollars from China.
“Hunter Biden has extensive connections to Chinese businesses and Chinese foreign nationals that are linked to the Communist government,” the Senate report said. “Those contacts bore financial fruit when his father was vice president and after he left office.”
“During 2010-2011, as a representative of Rosemont Seneca, Hunter Biden networked with representatives from Chinese state-owned enterprises and representatives of the Boston-based Thornton Group,” the report said
Constant figures in Mr. Biden financial forays in China are Ye Jianming, who ran an energy fund worth $33 billion, and an associate, Gongwen Dong. Both men were close to the ruling Communist Party, which planted layers of party members throughout the fund’s holdings.
Mr. Biden and Mr. Archer in 2012 formed Bohai Harvest Shanghai Equity Investment Fund Management Co. (Called BHR). The company is today mostly owned by Chinese entities.
In December 2013, Biden the son flew with his dad on Air Force Two to Beijing. After the trip, China approved BHR’s business license.
In 2016, Mr. Biden and Mr. Gongwen, who executes transactions for companies controlled by Mr. Ye, opened a line of credit for their New York business Hudson West III LLC. Hunter Biden, Joe Biden’s brother, James, and wife, Sara used credit cards from that bank.
“The Bidens subsequently used the credit cards to purchase $101,291.46 worth of extravagant items, including airline tickets and multiple items at Apple Inc. stores pharmacies, hotels and restaurants,” the Senate report says. “The cards were collateralized by transferring $99,000 from a Hudson West III account to a separate account, where the funds were held until the cards were closed.”
The Treasury Department tagged the transactions as “potential criminal active.”
In 2017, Mr. Ye’s China Energy Co. sent $100,000 to Hunter Biden’s law firm. This too was flagged by Treasury as potentially criminal. Another Ye firm, CEFC Infrastructure Investment, wired $5 million to Hudson West III. Hudson then sent $4.7 million to Mr. Biden’s law firm as consulting fees.
The next year, another $1 million came from Hudson to Mr. Biden
Mr. Biden was also sending money to uncle James and his Lion Hall Group. Hunter’s law firm, Owasco, sent 20 wires totaling $1.3 million. This too was flagged by Treasury as criminal.
When the bank inquired with Sara Biden about the large transfers, she said the payments were for consulting. She refused to supply backup information. The bank then closed the account.
Mr. Gongwen owned other Hudson West entities that handled huge transfers, some as high as $113 million
In November 2017, Mr. Ye’s associate, Patrick Ho, was arrested by U.S. authorities for money laundering and conspiracy. Mr. Ye was detained the next year in China.
Human trafficking
The Senate report says Hunter Biden “sent thousands of dollars to individuals who have either: 1) been involved in transactions consistent with possible human trafficking; 2) an association with the adult entertainment industry; or 3) potential association with prostitution.”
The report continues: “Some recipients of those funds are Ukrainian and Russian citizens. The records note that it is a documented fact that Hunter Biden has sent funds to nonresident alien women in the United States who are citizens of Russia and Ukraine and who have subsequently wired funds they have received from Hunter Biden to individuals located in Russia and Ukraine. The [Treasury] records also note that some of these transactions are linked to what ‘appears to be an Eastern European prostitution or human trafficking ring.’”
Andrew Bates, former vice president Joe Biden’s spokesman, responded to the report:
“As the coronavirus death toll climbs and Wisconsinites struggle with joblessness, Ron Johnson has wasted months diverting the Senate Homeland Security & Governmental Affairs Committee away from any oversight of the catastrophically botched federal response to the pandemic, a threat Sen. Johnson has dismissed by saying that ‘death is an unavoidable part of life.’ Why?
“To subsidize a foreign attack against the sovereignty of our elections with taxpayer dollars — an attack founded on a long-disproven, hardcore rightwing conspiracy theory that hinges on Sen. Johnson himself being corrupt and that the Senator has now explicitly stated he is attempting to exploit to bail out Donald Trump’s re-election campaign.”

]]>Hunter Biden, son of Democratic presidential nominee Joseph R. Biden, worked for a Shanghai investment firm involved in government- and military-linked deals that bolstered the Chinese military, including the purchase of an American auto parts maker, according to a new documentary film.
The younger Mr. Biden, a lawyer and investment banker, until recently was a director at Bohai Harvest RST, known as BHR, formed with $1 billion in Chinese government funding shortly after then-Vice President Biden visited China in December 2013, according to the investigative report.
Since then, the firm has worked with a division of the major Chinese defense contractor Aviation Industry Corp. of China, known as AVIC, and several other Chinese companies linked to the People’s Liberation Army.
Peter Schweizer, head of the Florida-based Government Accountability Institute and narrator of the film “Riding the Dragon: The Bidens’ Chinese Secrets,” said the documentary is based on corporate records, financial documents, legal briefings and court papers. Mr. Schweizer is perhaps best known for an investigative book in 2015 tracing the foreign sources of income for Bill and Hillary Clinton after Mr. Clinton left the White House in 2001.
The Hunter Biden investigation revealed a largely hidden financial relationship between China and both Bidens, Mr. Schweizer said in an interview.
“It’s a relationship that grew while Joe Biden was vice president of the United States and shortly after he was appointed the point person on U.S. policy towards China,” Mr. Schweizer said.
“It’s the story of the second most powerful man in the world at the time and how his family was striking deals with America’s chief rival on the global stage, the People’s Republic of China.”
The release of the 41-minute documentary, posted on YouTube, highlights the role of China in the presidential election.
President Trump has repeatedly suggested that Joseph R. Biden and Hunter Biden’s deals in China were corrupt.
“His son walked out with $1.5 billion of money to invest, where he’ll make hundreds of thousands of dollars — maybe millions of dollars a year,” Mr. Trump told reporters in July. “I asked one of the biggest people on Wall Street — maybe the biggest — ‘Is that possible?’ He said, ‘No.’ He’s never seen it. [The Chinese] don’t do that.”
A spokesman for the Biden campaign declined to comment on Mr. Schweizer’s findings.
Asked recently whether he was vulnerable to critics because of his son’s business dealings in China, Mr. Biden said: “No, I don’t believe so at all. My son’s business dealings were not anything what everybody that he’s talking about. Not even remotely.”
An attorney for Hunter Biden did not respond to requests for comment on the film.
The lawyer, George Mesires, said in a statement in October in response to questions about his client’s business activities that Hunter Biden served as an unpaid director to BHR and owned no equity in the company while his father was vice president from 2009 to 2017.
In October 2017, Hunter Biden invested $420,000 for a 10% stake in BHR, but as of October 2019 had not received any compensation for serving as a board member nor any return on the investment, his attorney said.
“Moreover, Hunter played no role in directing or making BHR’s investments,” Mr. Mesires said. “Hunter intends to resign from the BHR board of directors on or by October 31, 2019.”
Hunter Biden promised not to serve on any foreign boards or work for foreign companies if his father becomes president, Mr. Mesires said.
Deals around the world
A BHR spokesman could not be reached, but the company says on its website that it was formed in 2013 as China’s first foreign investment private equity firm and a “cross-border investment arm of Bohai Industrial Investment Fund,” a government-approved equity fund.
“We bring together the financial, market and deal resources of our stakeholders (including the Bank of China) and the structuring and execution capabilities of our experienced investment team,” the company stated.
The film shows that BHR made deals around the world aimed at advancing Chinese government goals.
“This new firm started making investment deals that would serve the strategic interests of the Chinese military,” Mr. Schweizer said.
In 2015, for example, BHR together with AVIC purchased the American auto parts manufacturer Henniges for a reported $1 billion. The deal was approved by the Obama administration despite Henniges’ role in producing goods with potential military applications.
A year earlier, AVIC was sanctioned by the Commerce Department and placed on a list of companies denied export licenses for their role in selling missile goods to Iran.
“AVIC was notorious for its history of stealing U.S. military technologies to build their own fighter jets and drones,” Mr. Schweizer said.
BHR also invested in military surveillance technology and facial recognition software called Face++, a division of the Chinese company Megvii. Face++ is a key element of the government’s mass surveillance network used throughout China and is now being marketed to Third World governments.
BHR also assisted China’s effort to corner the world market on rare-earth minerals, which are essential for a broad range of high-technology products. In 2014, BHR joined with a company called China Molybdenum in announcing plans to buy half of one of the largest copper mines in the world.
BHR also invested in China General Nuclear Power Corp., or CGN, which U.S. prosecutors have linked to the theft of commercial nuclear power technology secrets.
“Is it really that crazy to think that by partnering with the son of the vice president, [the Chinese] were trying to buy them too?” Mr. Schweizer asked. “And make no mistake: These firms Hunter was dealing with are directly tied to the Chinese military.”
Both CGN and AVIC were listed by the Pentagon as military-linked Chinese companies in June.
The film concludes that much remains unknown about the Bidens’ dealings in China.
“We also know that these deals didn’t just make the Bidens’ money; they had potentially dangerous consequences for our national security,” Mr. Schweizer said.
Despite Hunter Biden’s announced resignation from BHR, “Hunter quietly maintains an ownership stake in the firm, a stake worth millions of dollars, and stands to be worth even more as its China partnership prospers,” he added.
The film quoted the former vice president’s widely cited comment in May on the campaign trail in Iowa that China is not a strategic threat.
“China is going to eat our lunch? Come on, man,” he said.

]]>Hunter Biden’s business dealings in China served the “strategic interests” of the country’s communist government and military — and may have imperiled American national security, claims a new documentary exclusively previewed by The Post.
“Riding the Dragon: The Bidens’ Chinese Secrets” highlights several deals that Hunter Biden was involved in as a board member of the Beijing-based BHR Partners investment firm.
The film also alleges that Hunter was only able to get meetings with Chinese officials — and secure $1 billion in funding — “because of who his father was: vice president of the United States” and then-President Barack Obama’s “point person on US policy towards China.”
The 41-minute documentary is narrated by best-selling writer Peter Schweizer, who authored 2015’s “Clinton Cash: The Untold Story of How and Why Foreign Governments and Businesses Helped Make Bill and Hillary Rich” and has previously written about Hunter’s business dealings in China.
It is being shown online by the BlazeTV network, which on Thursday finished posting it to YouTube in six segments.
Following the founding of BHR in 2013, Schweizer says, “Hunter’s new firm … began making investment deals around the world that would serve the strategic interests of the Chinese government.”
He adds: “This new firm started making investment deals that would serve the strategic interests of the Chinese military.”
The deals discussed in the film include a 2015 joint venture between BHR and AVIC Auto — a subsidiary of the state-run Aviation Industry Corp. of China (AVIC), which makes aircraft for the Chinese military — to purchase Henniges Automotive, an American auto-parts maker.
Schweizer says that Henniges’ products are considered “dual-use” for both civilian and military purposes.
The film also focuses on BHR’s 2014 investment in the China General Nuclear Power Corp., formerly a state-owned power company.
In December 2016, the FBI busted a China General nuclear engineer, Szuhsiung “Allen” Ho, for conspiring to help China illegally obtain “sensitive nuclear technology” from within the US.
Ho, a naturalized American citizen, pleaded guilty the following year and was sentenced to two years in prison.
Schweizer also says that after Chi Ping Patrick Ho, an executive with CEFC China Energy Co., was busted by the FBI in 2017 for bribing officials in Africa, “one of his first calls” was to James Biden, Joe Biden’s brother.
Last year, James told The New York Times that he believed Ho — who was later convicted by a Manhattan federal jury and sentenced to three years in prison — had been trying to reach Hunter and that he provided his nephew’s contact information.
“Why exactly was he calling Hunter Biden? What sort of help was he expecting?” Schweizer asks.
“We don’t know the answer to that question. But what we do know is that the Bidens have cultivated very close relationships with members of the Chinese elite.”
Other deals mentioned in the film include BHR’s 2017 agreement with the China Molybdenum Co. Ltd. — one of the world’s largest producers of molybdenum, a metallic element that’s used to make alloy steel for weapons and other items — to acquire a 24 percent stake in the massive Tenke copper mine in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
Schweizer notes that BHR’s deal with the company came after the World Trade Organization ruled against China’s restrictions on the export of “rare earth” minerals — including molybdenum — following complaints by the US, the European Union and Japan.
POMPEO: CHINA IS AMERICA’S BIGGEST FOREIGN POWER THREAT
But a screenshot used to illustrate the case showed a CNN headline from 2012, “Obama hits China with trade complaint,” which topped a story that was actually about automotive exports.
Schweizer’s discussion of another BHR investment — in a Chinese company called Face++, which sells facial-recognition software — is also accompanied by an outdated screenshot of a story by The Intercept.
That report was updated more than two months ago to remove a headline claim that the technology was used to “surveil Muslims” and to note that a “troubling report” on the company’s cellphone app by Human Rights Watch — mentioned in the story’s first sentence — “has since been walked back.”
In the film’s conclusion, Schweizer says that “these deals didn’t just make the Bidens money — they had potentially dangerous consequences for our national security.”
Schweizer acknowledges earlier in the film that “we can’t know for sure” how much money the Biden family profited from the deals.
But he estimates that Hunter’s 10 percent stake in BHR — from which Hunter announced plans to resign in October amid public pressure during his father’s primary campaign — is “worth millions of dollars and stands to be worth even more as its China partnership prospers.”
JACK KEANE SAYS CHINA MOST LIKELY TO MEDDLE IN ELECTION
Hunter’s lawyer has denied he was ever compensated while on the BHR board or profited from his part-ownership, according to The New York Times, which has said he invested $420,000 for his 10 percent share in October 2017, after his father left office.
Other claims in the film have also been disputed, including that the deal for $1 billion in funding was finalized 10 days after Hunter accompanied his father on a 2013 trip to Beijing.
Last year, a BHR representative told The New Yorker that the agreement, to which Hunter was not a signatory, was executed before the trip and that a business license came through shortly afterward.
Hunter’s lawyer has also said that BHR was initially capitalized with only about $4.2 million, according to CNN.
Joe Biden’s campaign declined to comment on the film beyond providing a list of 15 “fact check” news reports that address various allegations about Hunter’s business dealings in China.

The youngest son of pending Democratic presidential nominee Joseph R. Biden has been mostly out of sight during the campaign but popped up at the convention in a video tribute to his step-mother Jill Biden.
“Mom, it is your strength that holds this family together and I know that you will make us whole again,” Hunter Biden says in the video clip from his brother Beau Biden’s funeral in 2015.
Hunter Biden has become a liability for the Biden campaign with President Trump and Republicans questioning his hugely profitable business dealings while his father served as vice president in the Obama White House.
With the video clip from the funeral, the Biden campaign found a way to briefly include Hunter Biden in the convention while presenting him in a setting that largely precluded criticism.
The elder Mr. Biden and his son have insisted they did nothing wrong and did not discuss business deals with each other.
The Senate Homeland Security Committee is investigating Hunter Biden’s dealings in Ukraine, where he landed a lucrative job at a Ukraine energy company Burisma Holdings while Mr. Biden was running Obama administration policy in that graft-riddled country.
The president’s push for Ukraine to investigate alleged corruption involving the Bidens led to Mr. Trump’s impeachment by the Democrat-led House, though he was acquitted by the GOP-led Senate.
Burisma paid Hunter Biden, who had no experience in the energy business, about $50,000 per month.
In a separate 2013 deal, the elder Mr. Biden and his son flew aboard Air Force Two to Beijing. Within weeks, Hunter Biden’s firm inked a $1 billion private equity deal with a subsidiary of the Chinese government’s Bank of China and BHR was born, according to Peter Schweizer’s book “Secret Empires.”

A hidden treasure chest filled with more than $1 million in gold and jewels has been found in the Rocky Mountains after a decade long search. Art and antiquities collector Forrest Fenn claims he hid the stash and says a treasure hunter located the chest a few days ago. He posted clues to the treasure’s location online and in a poem published in his 2010 autobiography, “The Thrill of the Chase.”

The Murph Challenge is a CrossFit workout consisting of a mile-long run, 100 pull-ups, 200 push-ups, 300 air squats and a final mile run — all while wearing a 20-pound vest or body armor.

Gunning for a sub-30 time, McIntyre did the grueling workout in 34:13 (Björgvin Karl Guðmundsson, unpartitioned, 38:40, the 2015 CrossFit Games. Mat Fraser, partitioned, 35:48, the 2016 CrossFit games. Josh Bridges, partitioned, 34:38, the 2016 CrossFit games.)
He told Fox News: “It’s known as the hardest workout in fitness. I wanted to be disciplined during the hard times we are facing and stay motivated and also motivate others to use this time to better themselves. Partnering with RWB was a huge opportunity to share the experience with the military community through the process.”
The challenge’s namesake is Lt. Michael Murphy. He was a native of Patchogue, N.Y., and a dedicated New York Rangers fan. He was also an athlete and star student from Penn State who turned down offers to attend law school to join the Navy SEALs instead, as Fox News previously reported.
He died in a 2005 firefight in Afghanistan that left three SEALs dead in all. He posthumously received the Medal of Honor — “for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity at the risk of his life,” as the official citation read — and was spotlighted in the 2013 movie, “Lone Survivor.” He also was the first SEAL to have a ship named after him — the guided-missile destroyer Michael P Murphy, was commissioned in summer 2011.
McIntyre said: “Memorial Day is all about the veterans and I was never in the military but I do my best to spend the weekend with those who were. I want to show my appreciation for their service and have a good time with them. This year was the best so far!”
The Murph Challenge has grown every year. It’s also served as a fundraising effort for the Lt. Michael P. Murphy Memorial Scholarship Foundation.
It’s an extra somber weekend in America.
Many men and women are among the untold number of veterans who served and survived during times of war only to die in recent weeks from the coronavirus.
This year’s Memorial Day will pay tribute not only to those who died on the battlefield but more recent fallen soldiers. And in a reminder of the way coronavirus has transformed American lives and traditions, many of the usual Memorial Day gatherings have been either canceled or curtailed — mindful of the pandemic that has already killed more than 90,000 people in the U.S.

In the midst of the coronavirus pandemic, McIntyre said it’s imperative for men in America to be leaders.
“I think it’s important for us to stay positive, work hard while leading others to do the same. I told everyone I knew to train hard and complete Murph this weekend because it’s something all of us can accomplish from home. Everyone needs to do the same in their own communities, tough times need tough people.”
