]]>Trump campaign adviser Lara Trump, the president’s daughter-in-law, told “The Story” Thursday she is open to discussions with Tara Reade, the woman who accused Democratic nominee Joe Biden of sexual assault, about speaking at next week’s Republican National Convention.
“I haven’t spoken directly to her, but that certainly is a conversation that we could have, absolutely,” Trump told host Martha MacCallum. “Why not?”

In March, Reade claimed Biden had assaulted her in 1993, when he was a senator from Delaware and she was working as one of his staffers. She had previously come forward in April 2019 with seven other women who accused the former vice president of inappropriate touching.
Both Biden and his campaign have repeatedly denied Reade’s claims, with the candidate saying in a written statement, “This never happened.”
“They should start out with the presumption they are telling the truth, then you have to look at the circumstances and the facts,” Biden told MSNBC in a May 1 interview regarding the merits of sexual misconduct accusations, but added that, in Reade’s case, “There’s so many inconsistencies.”
In an exclusive interview with Fox News Digital published Thursday, Reade claimed Democrats are “pretending that they’re the upholders of the ‘Me Too’ movement like a shield but meanwhile, some of their main Democratic elites, some of the main powerful people involved with the party are actually perpetrators themselves.

“And it’s this denial, collective denial and gaslighting of survivors, that’s been so concerning to me,” Reade added.
At the time of the inappropriate touching allegations, Biden released a video in which he said, “Social norms are changing. I understand that, and I’ve heard what these women are saying. Politics to me has always been about making connections, but I will be more mindful about respecting personal space in the future. That’s my responsibility and I will meet it.”

Having Received Word of Upcoming Weddings, Joint Information Center Reminds Everyone That Large Gatherings Outside the Home are Still Not Permitted

Since
March 20 of this year, in response to the COVID-19 pandemic and both
State and Local Health Officer Orders, gatherings of individuals
outside of the household unit have not been permitted. In spite of
this, numerous individuals identifying themselves as invited wedding
guests have contacted the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office of
Emergency Services to voice their concerns about two ceremonies in
particular scheduled for the next two weekends, one in Petrolia and
one in Ferndale.These
reports were received via the Joint Information Center’s Community
Information Line, with additional reports made through the COVID
Compliance Line. In response to both, and under the direction of the
Emergency Operations Center, code enforcement officers reached out to
family members to remind them that holding these gatherings is both
illegal and dangerous.As
noted by Humboldt County Health Officer Dr. Teresa Frankovich, “We
all understand the desire to celebrate occasions such as weddings
with family and friends. However, just as high school seniors had to
sacrifice traditional graduation ceremonies, these types of large
gatherings simply cannot occur. We are in a pandemic and the
potential for not only a large number of guests to become infected
but for these individuals to then expose many more people in our
community, is enormous. There is simply no way for Public Health to
conduct timely contact investigations and limit disease spread when
hundreds of people are exposed at one time.”Law
enforcement is aware and will be reaching out to the individuals
involved, and enforcement action will be taken if these events
proceed. Frankovich added, “I am hopeful that civic-minded
residents of Humboldt will reconsider offering and attending such
events until it is possible to hold them without violating the law
and endangering the safety of the guests and the residents of
Humboldt County.”

Hey young guys, it might be time to go off the grid. A new study finds that heterosexual young men are having far less sex than they were 20 years ago, USA Today reports. Looking at data on nearly 10,000 men and women aged 18 to 44, researchers say the percentage of sexually inactive men aged 18 to 24 rose from 18.9% between 2000 and 2002 to 30.9% between 2016 and 2018. And nearly a third of them had no sex at all in the prior year. An analysis accompanying the report says young men may be stuck in a prolonged adolescence that leaves them glued to social media, gaming, and streaming.
“There are now many more choices of things to do in the late evening than there once were and fewer opportunities to initiate sexual activity if both partners are engrossed in social media, electronic gaming, or binge watching,” psychology professor Jean Twenge writes in the commentary, per Reuters. “However, these reproductive trends have not occurred in isolation; instead, they are part of a broader cultural trend toward delayed development.” The study also found that women aged 25 to 34 are having sex less often. CNN notes that regular sex is linked to health benefits including lower stress, better sleep, and improved heart health. (Read more sexual health stories.)

A Chinese teen fell into a diabetic coma after she developed a habit of guzzling two bubble tea drinks every day, according to a report.
The 18-year-old Shanghai girl drank a pair of the super-sweet drinks every day for a month, until they triggered severe health issues, Asia Wire reported.
She was discovered unconscious by family members, who said she had been experiencing symptoms associated with hyperglycemia, a condition associated with dangerously high levels of blood sugar, according to the report.
Among her symptoms before she fell into a coma were nausea, frequent urination and dehydration, the report said.
She was brought last month to Ruijin Hospital, where her blood sugar levels were recorded at roughly 25 times higher than normal, according to the report.
The teen was placed on a ventilator and received kidney dialysis before waking up from the coma five days later, the outlet reported.
By June 1, the teen appeared to be on the mend and was discharged from the hospital, the report said.
The average cup of bubble tea has 54 grams of sugar, while regular iced tea has around 22 grams of sugar, according to Healthline and the US Department of Agriculture.

]]>The U.S. has far and away the highest number of confirmed coronavirus cases in the world, topping 1.5 million infections, more than the next six largest country outbreaks combined. That is, of course, a bad thing. As a result, the U.S. also leads the world in coronavirus deaths with more than 90,000. No matter where the virus originated or how it first hopscotched across the planet, topping the charts in confirmed cases months later represents a failure of national leadership to protect Americans. Even worse, it’s emblematic of an incoherent federal response that failed to equip Americans with the tools and information to protect themselves. But there’s no number Donald Trump can’t invert, no truth he can’t unwind and repurpose, and on Tuesday the president of the United States did just that, recasting America’s number of coronavirus cases … as a win? “I view it as a badge of honor,” Trump explained. “Really, it’s a badge of honor.” Huh?
“When we have a lot of cases,” Trump continued, “I don’t look at that as a bad thing. I look at that as, in a certain respect, as being a good thing because it means our testing is much better.” So, when you really think about it, what we’re actually doing is winning the pandemic? It’s certainly true that testing for and classification of coronavirus cases varies wildly in countries around the world, due to capacity and interest in sniffing out the pandemic. But Trump recasting a failure to contain the virus as a success in later counting those afflicted by that failure shows how far we’ve careened from reality, empathy, and accountability. At the highest level of American life, we’re currently floating unmoored.

]]>The World Health Organisation is warning that people who have had COVID-19 are not necessarily immune by the presence of antibodies from getting the virus again.
“There is no evidence yet that people who have had COVID-19 will not get a second infection,” WHO said in a scientific brief published Friday (local time).
It cautions against governments that are considering issuing so-called “immunity passports” to people who have had COVID-19, assuming they are safe to resume normal life.
“At this point in the pandemic, there is not enough evidence about the effectiveness of antibody-mediated immunity to guarantee the accuracy of an ‘immunity passport’ or ‘risk-free certificate’,” WHO said.
Dr Maria Van Kerkhove from WHO has previously said it’s not known whether people who have been exposed to the virus become completely immune.
The new WHO brief underscores that stance, and jibes with other scientific statements about the idea of developing immunity.
During a Friday briefing, the Infectious Diseases Society of America warned that not enough is known about antibody testing to assume immunity.
Dr Mary Hayden, spokesperson for IDSA and chief of the Division of Infectious Diseases at Rush University Medical Center, said: “We do not know whether or not patients who have these antibodies are still at risk of reinfection with COVID-19”.
“At this point, I think we have to assume that they could be at risk of reinfection.
“We don’t know even if the antibodies are protective, what degree of protection they provide, so it could be complete, it could be partial, or how long the antibodies last.
“We know that antibody responses wane over time.”
The society is “recommending that people with antibodies not change their behaviour in any way, continue social distancing etc”.
“And we think that this is a really important point to emphasise because we’re concerned that if this could be present, that these antibodies could be misinterpreted, people could put themselves at unnecessary risk,” Dr Hayden said.

World Health Organisation and NSW Health both recommend basic hygiene practices as the best way to protect yourself from coronavirus.
- Clean your hands thoroughly for at least 20 seconds with soap and water, or an alcohol-based hand sanitiser;
- Cover your nose and mouth when coughing and sneezing with tissue or your elbow;
- Avoid close contact with anyone with cold or flu-like symptoms;
- Apply safe food practices; and
- Stay home if you are sick.

]]>Bob Dylan, wearing a Celtics uniform, came up with a possible COVID-19 cure in a Boston coffee shop. Abraham Lincoln (who is much shorter in real life) was sewing face masks. I was there, too. OK, I might have dreamed this. But I’m not the only one having weird and vivid dreams these days.
Tweeters are asking about the phenomenon. People are submitting their dreams to a site called “I Dream of Covid.” Googling “weird dreams in quarantine” yields 5,800,000 results.
So what’s happening? I asked Deirdre Leigh Barrett, dream researcher at Harvard Medical School, past president of the International Association for the Study of Dreams, and author of “The Committee of Sleep.”
Barrett has created a COVID-19 dream survey, if you want to tell her about your own weird quarantine dreams. This interview was edited and condensed.
Q. In a nutshell, what’s causing this phenomenon?
A. Any big life change tends to stir up one’s dream life and result in more and more vivid dreams. The shelter-at-home situation is a big life change.
Also, one of the biggest variables in number of dreams, vividness of dreams, length of recalled dreams, etc. is hours of sleep. Many who are sleep-deprived may be catching up on sleep now.
Q. REM cycles have something to do with it, correct?
A. Yes, we go into REM every 90 minutes, but each REM period lasts longer than the one before it. When you do catch-up sleeping, you’re especially catching up on dreaming, and have some of the longest REM periods ever.
Q. I read there have been studies on weird dreams during other difficult times — 9/11, World War II. Can this be our mind’s way of working through trauma?
A. Yes, [though] I’d call it a stressor rather than a trauma for all but the health care providers, patients with COVID-19, and a few other most-affected populations.
I’m seeing dreams that focus on different stressors — threats from the virus, loneliness, confinement with a family member with whom one has conflicts, economic hardship, missing favorite foods, etc.
Q. You’re conducting a survey on COVID-19 dreams. What do you hope to learn?
A. Looking at a collection like this can tell us a lot about the world’s unconscious emotional reactions and may even give us new approaches to it. Dreams are just our brain thinking in a very different biochemical state, and that mode can be a useful complement to our usual waking linear one.
Q. Are there any major themes people are dreaming of?
A. Getting sick with COVID-19 and being about to die is a common theme. So are metaphors — bugs are by far the most common: worms, flies, bees, roaches, grasshoppers all attack dreamers. [Dreams] about curing oneself, discovering a cure for everyone — house cat saliva was the source for one dream remedy. One woman turned into a giant antibody that raced around killing the virus.
Q. Any advice?
A. If someone is bothered by a lot of anxiety dreams, [try] to think of what dreams you would like to have. With what we call “dream incubation,” you can suggest to yourself what you’d like to dream as you fall asleep. Repeat to yourself what you want to dream about as you drift off to sleep. The technique raises the odds that your dreaming mind will honor your request.
