Country music<\/a> trio Dixie Chicks<\/a> has changed their name.<\/p>\n

Across the band’s social media pages, the women now go by The Chicks. On Thursday morning, their official Twitter handle was changed from @dixiechicks to\u00a0@thechicks.<\/p>\n

The group made up of\u00a0Natalie Maines, Martie Erwin Maguire, and Emily Strayer, also changed their name on\u00a0Instagram<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0Facebook<\/a>.<\/p>\n

A statement on The Chicks’ website said \u201cWe want to meet this moment.\u201d The term Dixie refers to Southern U.S. states, especially those that belonged to the Confederacy.<\/p>\n

The Chicks also dropped a\u00a0new song \u201cMarch March” from their\u00a0comeback<\/a> album “Gaslighter<\/a>” that features videos and images from the recent Black Lives Matter rallies.<\/p>\n

In early July, fellow\u00a0country band\u00a0Lady Antebellum<\/a>\u00a0announced on\u00a0social media that it changed its name to Lady A.<\/p>\n

The decision, which the\u00a0Grammy-winning<\/a>\u00a0group announced on Twitter, comes “after much personal reflection” and conversations with “closest black friends” as Antebellum refers to a period of time “which includes slavery.”<\/p>\n

Band members,\u00a0Hillary Scott<\/a>, Charles Kelley, and Dave Haywood, said in a statement they are regretful and embarrassed for not taking into consideration the word\u2019s associations with slavery.<\/p>\n

The statement said that they chose the name after the antebellum-style home where they shot their first band photos, and it reminded them of Southern styles of music.<\/p>\n

But they said in recent weeks, their eyes have been opened to \u201cblindspots we didn’t even know existed” and “the injustices, inequality and biases black women and men have always faced.”<\/p>\n

But a problem arose since a blues singer, Anita White<\/a>, has gone by the moniker Lady A for over 20 years.<\/p>\n

A rep for Lady Antebellum told Rolling Stone morning that the band was not aware of White\u00a0and that they also planned on reaching out to her. And on Monday, the group revealed that they, in fact, had reached out.<\/p>\n

“Today, we connected privately with the artist Lady A,”\u00a0the\u00a0band wrote on Instagram<\/a>\u00a0along with a screenshot of a video chat. “Transparent, honest, and authentic conversations were had. We are excited to share we are moving forward with positive solutions and common ground. The hurt is turning into hope. More to come.”<\/p>\n
