LOS ANGELES, CA– Confirmed coronavirus cases and deaths increased again across Los Angeles Wednesday, and the spread of COVID-19 prompted officials to start publicly identifying dining establishments connected to outbreaks in Los Angeles County.

Together with assisted living home and other institutional settings that have had outbreaks, county health officials will include restaurants to the list of places with known outbreaks, Los Angeles County public health department director Dr. Barbara Ferrer said.

” Later today, we will be including on this list dining establishments that have had outbreaks as well,” she said Tuesday.

Our understanding of the infection and how far it has actually spread continues to alter, forcing officials to embrace brand-new strategies, Ferrer said. Increased testing and openness are both part of the strategy.

” With the new information that’s emerging that shows there are much more individuals than we believed that are favorable for COVID-19 and they’re not sick, we need to alter our methods and change,” Ferrer stated. “This is especially true at all of our institutional settings, particularly at the competent retirement home where in the past we have actually done a great deal of our infection- control procedures around an assumption that we required to stress over individuals who are symptomatic and test people who are symptomatic and not enable individuals who were symptomatic and were staff members to come into a center to do their jobs.

” However it turns out that we were incorrect, and with new details it has ended up being clear that asymptomatic individuals are capable of spreading out the infection, and this is particularly real in a facility where all of the look after the majority of the residents occurs because employees are bathing individuals, they’re feeding people, they’re moving individuals, they remain in extremely close contact with the people who live there and really ensuring those people have what they need every single day.”

She said the continuing increase in cases in nursing centers has actually led to a stepped-up concentrate on screening, which will now include all people at the facilities regardless of whether they are revealing symptoms. That is a sharp modification in policy that formerly just required testing of symptomatic people.

Competent nursing facilities account for 40 %of the county’s coronavirus deaths. Testing is being reinforced in competent nursing centers, stated Ferrer.

Ferrer announced 66 more deaths Wednesday and 1,318 new cases bringing the countywide overall to 732 deaths and 16,460 verified cases.

Of the people who have actually died, ethnic/race information was offered for just 646 people. Of those, 37%were Latinx, 27%white, 18%Asian and 15%black.

Those cases consist of 100 cases among the county’s homeless population, consisting of 55 who were residing in shelters. Ferrer noted that most of those were attributable to a break out at the Union Rescue Mission on Skid Row in downtown Los Angeles. Authorities said Tuesday that 56 cases have been validated at the mission among homeowners and personnel, and someone– a team member– has actually passed away.

An overall of 275 institutional settings– including retirement home, experienced nursing centers, helped living centers, shelters, prisons and prisons– have actually had at least one case. Those organizations have represented a total of 3,115 cases, involving 1,826 residents and 1,289 staff members. There have actually been 292 deaths in such organizations, the huge majority happening among homeowners of experienced nursing facilities.

She said the increased screening will continue for the next couple of months, and stated beginning Thursday, five officials with the U.S. Centers for Illness Control and Avoidance will be concerning the county to examine nursing facilities and improve infection-control steps.

On The Other Hand, Dr. Christina Ghaly, the county’s director of medical services, again stressed the requirement to maintain stay-at-home and physical distancing measures. She stated there has been a leveling-off of cases, however “new infections are not yet reducing.” She said modeling indicates that a lifting of physical distancing requirements will likely lead to another spike in cases.

Ghaley stated lifting “physical distancing procedures really all of a sudden would negate and reverse all of that development we have actually made to date.”

She again pointed to predictions that if the stay-at-home orders are raised, 96%of the county’s population will be contaminated by Aug. 1.
