Coronavirus: Orange County reports 1,251 new cases and 9 new deaths

The Orange County Health Care Agency  reported another 1,251 cases of the coronavirus as of Saturday, July 11 pushing Orange County’s total to 23,901 since local testing began in March. There were nine new deaths reported, bringing the total to 421.

Of the 421 deaths, 212 were in skilled nursing facilities, 15 in assisted living facilities and two were listed as homeless.

There were 671 registered hospital patients with 231 in ICU. The state’s coronavirus-tracking dashboard shows Orange County has at least 39% of its ICU beds still available.

The county estimates the number of recoveries from the virus is 9,982. The count of people who have recovered is based on the prior 28-day cumulative case count.

Countywide, 303,201 tests have been reported since testing began, with data through July 8. The state’s coronavirus dashboard gave a 12.1% test positivity rate for the county with 88,013 tests over the last 14 days.

The county’s breakdown of deaths by age is as follows:

  • 85 and older: 31% (129)
  • 75-84: 26% (109)
  • 65-74: 18% (73)
  • 55-64: 13% (52)
  • 45-54: 8% (33)
  • 35-44: 2% (10)
  • 25-34: 1% (5)
  • 24 and younger: 0%
