A group of independent voters were in lockstep with Republicans<\/a>\u00a0during the first night of the Republican National Convention,<\/a> pollster Lee Carter<\/a> told \u201cFox & Friends<\/a>\u201d on Tuesday. <\/p>\n

During her appearing on\u00a0\u201cFox & Friends\u201d\u00a0with host Ainsley Earhardt<\/a>, Carter said she thinks \u201coverall you saw independents really, really resonating with the messages that they\u00a0heard.\u201d <\/p>\n

Carter acknowledged there were \u201csome blips\u201d but said \u201cthe\u00a0personal stories\u201d from speakers, including former United States Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley,<\/a> South Carolina Republican Sen. Tim Scott <\/a>and former Heisman Trophy winner Herschel Walker,<\/a> who was raised a Democrat and is a longtime friend of\u00a0President Trump’s, \u201creally resonated with the voters, and\u00a0that’s what\u2019s going to be remembered from last night.\u201d<\/p>\n

Carter, the president of Maslansky & Partners,\u00a0broadcast her “voter dials,” which assess the real-time reactions to the debate from voters across the political spectrum, rating candidates’ statements from A to F.<\/p>\n

Earhardt pointed to Scott\u2019s \u201cpowerful\u201d convention speech where he \u201ctalked about his story and\u00a0the American dream.\u201d <\/p>\n

\u201cMy grandfather\u2019s 99th birthday\u00a0would have been tomorrow,\u201d Scott said during his speech Monday night.\u00a0\u201cHe suffered the indignity of being\u00a0forced out of school as a third-grader to\u00a0pick cotton and he never learned\u00a0to read or write.\u201d <\/p>\n

He added,\u00a0\u201cOur family went from cotton to\u00a0Congress in one lifetime and\u00a0that’s why I believe the next\u00a0American century can be better\u00a0than the last.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cHe hit it out of the park,\u201d Carter said.\u00a0\u201cYou can see that Republicans gave\u00a0this an A-plus, independents gave it an A and\u00a0even Democrats gave it a C.\u201d <\/p>\n

She went on to say that Monday night was \u201ca big night for Scott\u00a0and it was also a really, really great\u00a0capstone for Donald Trump.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI think the most surprising\u00a0thing that I saw last night is how\u00a0much independents were lock in\u00a0step with Republicans,\u201d she continued. \u201cWe did not see that during the\u00a0DNC<\/a> [Democratic National Convention].\u00a0Republicans and independents\u00a0acted very differently in\u00a0response to that. But here, last night\u00a0we saw them right in step with\u00a0the Republicans.\u201d <\/p>\n

Earhardt brought up Walker\u2019s speech from the RNC as well, noting that \u201che takes offense to the fact\u00a0that many people call the\u00a0president racist.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cIt hurt my soul to hear the\u00a0terrible names that people call\u00a0Donald.\u00a0The worst one is racist,\u201d Walker said during his speech Monday night. \u201cI take that as a personal insult\u00a0that people would think I\u2019ve\u00a0had a 37-year friendship with a\u00a0racist.\u201d <\/p>\n

\u201cPeople who think that don’t know\u00a0what they\u2019re talking about,\u201d Walker continued.\u00a0\u201cGrowing up in the Deep South I\u2019ve seen racism up close.\u00a0I know what it is, and it isn’t\u00a0Donald Trump.\u201d <\/p>\n

Carter said Republicans and independents reacted \u201cvery similarly\u201d to Walker\u2019s speech as well. <\/p>\n

\u201cRepublicans gave this\u00a0an A, independents a B plus and\u00a0Democrats a D,\u201d Carter said. \u201cThis was a big, big night for the\u00a0president and for the Republican\u00a0Party.\u201d <\/p>\n

Earhardt also noted\u00a0that Trump \u201ctalked about how Democrats\u00a0will blame losing [the 2020 election] on the post\u00a0office.<\/a>\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cEvery one of you have to\u00a0watch because bad things\u00a0happened last time with this\u00a0spying on our campaign and that\u00a0goes to Biden and that goes to\u00a0Obama,\u201d Trump said Monday.\u00a0\u201cAnd we have to be very, very\u00a0careful \u2026 And this time they\u2019re trying to\u00a0do it with the whole post office\u00a0scam.\u00a0They\u2019ll blame it on the post\u00a0office.\u00a0You could see them setting it\u00a0up.\u201d <\/p>\n

\u201cThe Republicans gave this [an] A\u00a0minus, independents a B, while Democrats\u00a0gave this an F so a lot of Democrats [are] really upset about\u00a0this argument, but it is\u00a0resonating with both\u00a0independents and Republicans,\u201d Carter said. <\/p>\n

Over the weekend, the House of Representatives passed a $25 billion funding infusion<\/a> to the U.S. Postal Service in a bill that also would reverse new cost-cutting measures and ban any efforts to slow down the mail until at least next year.<\/p>\n

Democrats called the rare “emergency” session in the middle of the summer recess because they contend Trump\u00a0and new Postmaster General Louis DeJoy are trying to sabotage the 2020 election by delaying service that could compromise mail-in ballots during the\u00a0coronavirus pandemic<\/a>. <\/p>\n

Republicans dismissed the Democrats’ election concerns as “conspiracy theory.” GOP members said the Postal Service\u00a0is not in a crisis and can handle any uptick in volume from mail-in ballots, pointing to its\u00a0$14 billion in available cash and access to a $10\u00a0billion\u00a0loan from the Treasury.<\/p>\n

The legislation is not expected to go anywhere. The GOP-led Senate has no plans to take up the bill and the White House issued a veto threat<\/a>\u00a0on Friday saying USPS doesn’t need a $25 billion bailout.<\/p>\n
