(WWJ) FBI agents have raided a medical office in Macomb County.
The feds were at the Allure Medical Spa, at 8180 Van Dyke Ave. near 26 Mile in Shelby Township, Thursday morning.
WWJ Newsradio 950’s Charlie Langton reports a search warrant was served at the business at around 8 a.m., and people in masks and HAZMAT suits were seen carrying out boxes.
Some representatives for the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services were also on the scene.
The FBI said the investigation concerns alleged dubious treatment alleged to help to beat the coronavirus.
“This morning, federal law enforcement executed a search warrant at Allure Medical Spa in Shelby Township, Michigan,” FBI Special Agent Mara Schneider said, in a statement. “The investigation includes allegations that the clinic provided fraudulent treatments for COVID-19, and that the clinic did not observe proper protocols to protect patients and staff from the virus.”
Earlier this month, Allure Medical announced its founder Dr. Charles Mok was providing high-dose intravenous Vitamin C Therapy to all essential Michigan workers at risk of contracting COVID-19.
A news release issued by Allure on April 16 claimed the treatment was being used in hospitals around the country to treat the most severe symptoms associated with the coronavirus.
In a video advertisement posted to Allure’s Facebook page, Mok advertised an IV coronavirus treatment. In the ad, which has been running online for weeks, Mok said while the treatment will not reduce the odds of contracting the virus, it “reduces the severity of symptoms, the duration of illness and therefore the contagiousness of COVID-19.”
That claim has been unproven, according to federal health officials.
At this time, there are no drugs or other therapeutics approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration to prevent or treat COVID-19.
“If any patients or staff have any concerns about their health or exposure to COVID-19, we urge them to consult a trusted healthcare provider immediately.” Schneider added.
It’s unclear if any arrests were made or any charges filed.
