A Harvard law teacher is under fire for her remarks in an article about the “risks” of homeschooling as parents face closed public schools since of the coronavirus pandemic.
In Harvard Magazine’s May-June issue, Elizabeth Bartholet, a law teacher and professors director of the school’s Kid Advocacy Program, worried homeschooled children will not have the ability to contribute to a democratic society.

” The concern is, do we believe that parents should have 24/ 7, essentially authoritarian control over their children from ages absolutely no to 18?” Bartholet asked. “I think that’s dangerous. I believe it’s always hazardous to put effective individuals in charge of the helpless, and to give the powerful ones amount to authority.”

Without mentioning particular examples, the civil rights and household law instructor argued homeschooled kids are at greater threats of abuse.
” I believe a frustrating bulk of lawmakers and American individuals, if they looked at the scenario, would conclude that something should be done,” Bartholet said.

A Harvard University honors graduate student, who was homeschooled till she went to the Ivy League school, responded in a post on Medium Monday.
Melba Pearson called the post “an attack on the essential rights and liberties that make our nation (and up until just recently, organizations such as Harvard) what they are.”
She said it is “frustrating” Erin O’Donnell, who authored the post quoting Bartholet, argued that government has more of a right than moms and dads do to inform their own children.
” The idea that a government, already so inefficient and insufficient in many areas, can look after and inform every kid better than its moms and dad is wrong,” Pearson composed.
The alum mentions that stats back up homeschooling, calling out the post’s “defective” logic.

Pearson argues she was better gotten ready for Harvard because she was homeschooled, not in spite of it.
” It is deeply frustrating that Harvard is picking and promoting an intellectual totalitarian course that requires a ban of the liberties that assisted me and numerous others are successful, for it is those liberties and suitables that have made America the fantastic country it is today,” she concludes.
