Famed attorney and Harvard Law School\u00a0professor emeritus\u00a0Alan Dershowitz filed a defamation suit against CNN<\/a> on Tuesday seeking $300 million for what he\u00a0called\u00a0a “willful,\u00a0deliberate, malicious effort to destroy my credibility.”<\/p>\n

Dershowitz told Fox News that CNN selectively edited a clip of his remarks from the Senate floor during President Trump’s impeachment trial where he broke down the illegalities surrounding a “quid pro quo” as a member of the president’s defense team.<\/p>\n

The Constitutional scholar alleges in the lawsuit that the news outlet propagated a \u201csea of lies\u201d by re-airing only part of his\u00a0quote, which he believes was part of a deliberate effort “from the very top” to frame him\u00a0for claiming \u201cthat the President of the United States could commit illegal acts as long as he thought it would help his reelection and that his reelection was in the public interest,” The Wrap reported.<\/p>\n

“What CNN\u00a0did here, and it pains me to say\u00a0this because, you know, I have\u00a0friends over there.\u00a0What they did is they just\u00a0totally doctored the tape,” Dershowitz told Sean Hannity on Tuesday.<\/p>\n

” If they had just show\u00a0the part where I said if he does\u00a0anything illegal he can be\u00a0impeached — Dershowitz trailed off, “but they doctored the\u00a0tape to take that out.”<\/p>\n

Dershowitz said he plans to donate any awarding\u00a0to “charities and to good causes,” emphasizing that he’s “not doing this for\u00a0myself.<\/p>\n

“I’m doing this\u00a0to hold them accountable,” he explained. “They made a deliberate,\u00a0willful decision we believe from\u00a0the very top to purposely doctor\u00a0the tape to make it look like I\u00a0said something that was crazy,\u00a0that a president can do anything,\u00a0that he can commit crimes.<\/p>\n

“Of course I never said that — I don\u2019t believe it.\u00a0I spent an hour in front of the\u00a0Senate two days earlier saying\u00a0if the president commits a crime\u00a0he can be impeached and that was\u00a0a whole thesis of my\u00a0presentation,” Dershowitz said.<\/p>\n

“CNN knew that\u00a0and they doctored the tape and\u00a0edited the tape to make me say\u00a0exactly the opposite.\u00a0Shame on them,” he continued,. “They\u2019re going to have to pay and some\u00a0good charities are going to\u00a0benefit from CNN’s willful\u00a0deliberate malicious effort\u00a0to destroy my credibility as a\u00a0constitutional scholar.”<\/p>\n

CNN did not respond to Fox News’\u00a0request for comment.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
